Hasn't MostWanted been on a discount for like two weeks now? It was part of the Day-1 digital sales.
No freebies though. Oh well, guess I should finish up one of the older games. HD is getting close to full now. =/
I've become desensitized to scripted horror games.
You know, games where enemies hide in a closet waiting for you to arrive, and then jump out and scream loudly like they're throwing a badly planned birthday party?
After a while, you notice the gears behind the game and it looses it's charm. Kinda like when you notice a switch or mechanism behind a funhouse.
Games that are less scripted, still scare me. Even Minecraft can scare me. Develop...
I enjoyed the stalker encounter. Don't know why, but it felt like a movie with how everything was timed, and the stalkers' movement, and how you'd have to impale them at the last second (or atleast, that's what I did)
Didn't really feel scared or creeped out... my thought process was somewhere along the lines of 'This is pretty sweet'.
It's funny how DLC schedules have become so convoluted.
It depends entirely on what the default FOV is.
A good FOV depends on the size of the screen, and the distance of the viewer from it. This is why having an FOV option on PC is so important, because no fixed value will work for everyone. (I'd actually prefer console games to have the option too, but there might be hardware concerns regarding that)
The fisheye effect might look odd when you look at the image as a whole, but when your view is focused to the ...

... which is why this will become one of the hottest stories of the day within 3 hours of being approved.
You're missing the fact that this is a game that was released in 2004.
The visuals seem to be good enough that you have to reference KZ2 just for comparison.
Don't really see it fair to call them lazy when they got the game to run at 60fps.
That's in contrast to other HD ports which only do 30fps despite being on newer hardware.
When you compare it to other 'HD remasters', the visuals are pretty good.
... Also, using gifs to show visuals made me facepalm hard. Then again, it's kotaku, so I probably shouldn't be surprised.
Wasn't interested before, but I'm kinda tempted to grab it now that Origin is offering it for $30 on PC.
^ If we do see 4K, it'll likely be restricted to movies on physical media.
With the state the network infrastructure currently is, it's going to take a lot of miracles to have it capable of streaming 4K resolution content.
Besides, I'd be surprised if there's any noticeable difference between 4K and 1080p with proper AA. 4K seems over-indulgent for now.
... it's not $60 though.
I'd rather they sacrificed some of the eyecandy to increase performance at 1080p.
(I'm a sucker for performance over visuals)
The higher resolution helps in making thing easier to see, and for a simulator, the bulk of things is on the physics and actual geometry of the road rather than visuals.
Not sure about Forza as I haven't played any of 'em, but Shift2 runs at 720/30fps, and it might have more detailed environments, but the sluggi...
A beta isn't exactly advertisement though. (Unless you're EA)
That, and the beta was an actual beta instead of a glorified demo, and the gameplay fluctuated with updates, so it wasn't exactly a fair representation of how the game turned out.
For that matter, the recent DLC dramatically changed the gameplay as well.
It's sad indeed, because LightBox seemed to have done a lot of things right. They had a beta to iron out balance and bugs. They had...
One of the few developers that actually made multiplayer games that went beyond the cookie-cutter experience and yet it falters.
You'd think with all the people that complain about online shooters all being casual and generic, Starhawk would've done better. Sadly most big publishers will just see this as another reason to play it safe.
Making games isn't really an argument for them staying in the hardware business though.
If anything, it's the opposite; with such a great line-up of games, they're better off leaving the hardware side and focusing entirely on software.
Things related to hardware, such as the relatively open nature of PS3 (allowing games like Dust514) is probably a better argument for them staying.
IGN gave it a 9/10 though.
They've also given relatively high score to most PS3 exclusives as well.
Not sure what you're on about there.
... then you realize that EU has received DeadSpace2 for 'free'. =/
... and OffTheRecord wasn't particularly all that great of a game.
FestivalOfBlood, though, is probably worth grabbing for those that haven't.
Blizzard & 2K seems a bit of an oddity. Civ5's DLC is a bit out of hand, and if I'm not mistaken, Bioshock2 required GFWL for the DLC.
Even Rockstar is somewhat shaky, considering the DLC of LA Noire. They might make good worthwhile DLC, but that's not exactly generosity.
That, and if a publisher/developer is originally charging $60 for their games on PC, then I wouldn't really consider them generous.
Well, if we want to focus on the negatives, then there's a few alarming signs:
- Pre-order incentives try to encourage people to buy before reviews, with one incentive being a beta for a different game
- Beta was only released on one platform
- No reviews out yet
- Game has already been discounted ($40 for consoles, $30 for PC)
- EA is not puffing their chests like they did with BF3, or even with MoH 2010
