His definition of an Artist, from what I understood, was someone who uses nature as a base/inspiration, but then improves or alters nature.
I guess that means: poets, novelists, filmmakers, painters/sculptors/architects/ etc. ... basically a whole laundry list that excludes game developers.
Thing is, there are games in which we have elements that count as art. For example, enemy design is quite artistic (I especially enjoyed the monsters in "The Sufferin...
On the flip side, you can find a swearing, racist and homophobic community to join with too. Gotta love dedicated servers for that.
Everybody is happy.
I don't know why, but idiots in objective-based games like TF2 and BC2 stick out more than... Halo/CoD.
I don't think this qualifies as art. Its just an imitation of reality.
Art requires an artistic touch.
Shadow of the Colossus is art.
EDIT: Well, that was just stated in Ebert's original comments. His original argument was that art has to be the creation of an artist. That was his definition (and he noted that others have different definitions and made counterarguments).
I'm just saying that GT5 won't change his mind because th...
Holy hell he's going fast!
Oh wait... the speed is in kmh.
=/
... but but unrealistic day/night change! baw baw baw.
Not sure what yer trying to accomplish here Alpha.
People like living in their little world and using any argument, be it logical or not, will fall on deaf ears.
My only comment on KZ is that it doesn't have an identity as of yet. Sort of like MoH, where it felt like the game is just trying to salvage ideas from whats popular instead of doing something of its own. Then again, I haven't played the KZ3 beta, so don't know what improvements have been...
@kerrak
What do you mean by other developers not starting from scratch?
O.o
Anyways, graphics, as with all the previous GT games, look stunning.
If enough of us disagree with you, then maybe the truth will change.
... I think they're using maps from 1941. =/
... but Bad Company 2 IS missing dual-wielding shotguns.
Well, I'm the one who mentioned Doom3 and DeadSpace, but what I meant by that was that they mimmic SystemShock2.
Both are in space with monsters and audio logs. They are almost like a "remake" with their own twist on things (then again, they're all based on Aliens anyways)
As for DeusEx, I mentioned that since SystemShock2, Thief and DeusEx are considered by many as some of the greatest PC games of the olden days (granted, they're not really &quo...
I'm burnt out of shooters. =/
SystemShock barely meets the qualifications... right?
(Although Doom3 and DeadSpace are close to footing that bill)
Oh well, atleast Deus Ex is getting a remake. Its sad how the original's depth is hardly matched by current games.
Meh, I don't mind if they get remade, but I miss the faster-paced FPSes. The one where every room was an opportunity to run in guns a-blazing followed by a treasure hunt where you search for medpacks and ammo.
Not to sound like an elitist prick... but the linguistics being employed here are through the roof!
... Oh damn, I sounded like an elitist prick. =(
Thats been an issue since GT3 where the cars had surreal reflections.
I don't mind it...kinda looks cool, but I wonder if the cars age during a race? Would be interesting to see the car getting dirty through a rally race ala Dirt.
Depends if the graphics have any visual style to them.
There are games with 'pretty' graphics but there is no artistic style to them, whereas other games go for a stylized look.
Games like Okami, and TeamFortress2, I enjoyed them much more because of the graphics.
I feel as though games in the past were more artistic, whereas now, due to more graphical power, they try to directly imitate reality. =/
When you have good art dire...
Haha, I remember that ... err.. one oval track in GT2/3 and having to do an endurance race.
Just taped down the accelerator and came back an hour later.
Somehow I think I'm not playing the game like it was meant to be played. =/
Probably a sign that a new console is needed.
Mostly because of the Cell, which is one beast of a procesor.
Otherwise, the GPU itself isn't all that special.
Oh God... that was an epic way to end things.
Especially with the story building up to that one point.
Kudos for mentioning that.
Oh well... I'm still enjoying the game nonetheless. No lag or stutters, just smooth, balanced gameplay.
Looks like people view making money as a crime =/
Some upcoming releases such as GT5 might post astronomical numbers too I think.
... but at the end of the day, it's whether you enjoy the game or not.
Heh, but the thing about PC gamers is, when they want to be immature, they'll leave no stone unturned.
