Killing Floor is indeed awesome. I've played it more than L4D/2 combined.
^ Yup, IW's engine uses the quake3 engine as a base, but is heavily modified to the extent that it can be considered it's own distinct engine.
Same goes for the GoldSource, which is considered as an engine despite also being based off the quake engine.
iD has been really influential to gaming with its engines. Which is why I'm excited about the new tech5.
Does 'the Zone' count?
Though platformers/RPGs should dominate this list.
I think it might be able to hold my interest till Brink or Battlefield3 arrive.
Reminds me more of Battlefield though, probably due to the more open environment and vehicles.
^ That won't happen. Or rather, won't happen as consistently.
Consoles face the problem of limited hardware, and a big factor in getting a game to sell is the visuals. By sacrificing performance and visuals, the devs can make the game look prettier.
This is why you have some devs going for 30fps at 720p (or even less)... because more consumers value visuals over performance.
Case in point, you called InifintyWard lazy, when they probably have ...
Doesn't Sony do the same?
O.o
Edit: It wasn't exactly a rhetorical question. I thought sony made deals like that too (GTA3 comes to mind... but I wasn't exactly sure). Although those game did show up on PC eventually.
@eneki
Then you'd be getting them on PC.
+ You'd be getting Metro2033 and a kickass bandana for TF2... just for pre-ordering Homefront.
Judging by the demo, the multiplayer belongs on the 360.
Although, would someone happen to know if ModTools/SDK is announced for Crysis2? I'd think it'd be a no-brainer, but can't remember any recent news about it.
That might be a game-changer.
Heil to the King, Baby.
^ Art style is usually linked with visuals.
Real-Life doesn't look all that great. The major advantage real-life has is a higher resolution, otherwise, games look better since they exagerrate things and have a touch of surrealism to them, just like Hollywood does with it's movies.
Although the comparison depends on what platform is being used. In this case, there's two games which are available on the PC vs a PS3 exclusive. Not exactly a fair comp...
"That's pretty basic physics there, guy."
Hi, I'm a Physicisit. Never heard of any basics about everything being spherical or round since the 17th century.
As for computer graphics, I guess they can aggressively subsurf everything.
Anyways, the images depressed me. Just darker and grittier... why can't we have colours? =(
Manic depression will likely kick in if we're all still playing 6v6 TDM on maps smaller than foot...
The reason he's saying that is because he actually puts devotion into his games.
Show the users you care, and they'll support you.
It's what most successful devs on PC do. Release a game, and then give it long-term support instead of shoving any updates into a rehashed sequel.
If I had to guess the majority's reaction, it'd be "LOL gay".
=/
They sound like gamers, which is why they make good games.
Not much talk about visuals, just a lot of concern about the gamer.
My heart skipped a beat when I heard him say March 17 release date though. Was disappointed later on. =(
^ Why not? It makes for a good scapegoat.
PS3 users will complain that the 360 is holding games back.
PC users will complain that consoles are holding games back.
I am not part of the problem, someone else is.
Where is the budget for all these live trailers coming from?
They're quite well done.
True. PC gamers have the odd habit of over-complaining whereas console gamers tend to over-hype (unless if you visit the official forums for the game)
The game industry spiraling into a whirlpool of deteriorating game-design might also have something to do with it.
However, there do seem to be a few choices with that demo such as the auto-aim, the wonky server manager, the player-cap and the customization options. Either it's a cruel joke by the crytek staff or th...
^ I understand that, but the purpose of endurance races, to me, has always been about endurance. How long can you handle the stress of handling curves at blistering speeds before a mental breakdown.
Though that is irrelevant since I shouldn't force my tastes on to other people. If some casual players want to make things simpler for themselves, then they should be free to do so.
I actually wouldn't even mind if it GT5 had a rewind feature (such as Dirt) whereas...
Civilization games can get addictive too.
Minecraft too... sorta. Doesn't really have a long-term hold though.
Call of Duty isn't much on the PC anyways.
I believe BC2 often has more people playing than BlackOps or MW2... while each CS nearly has double the amount =/
