It also takes one person who decides to not buy a game due to the pass (not sure why someone would do that, but meh) to counter that gain.
EDIT @coolbeans
From what I've understood, some people don't buy the game because they don't want to promote that kind of behaviour from publishers. (So, a boycott basically)
If it became that big of an issue, you can always spend a measly dollar to go to premium.
Although the mod won't catch on because there are also a lot of people that don't like it (including server owners) for reasons you stated.

"Is this the limit of what we could see this thing be allowed to do, or will it go further if someone decides to take the idea and expand on it to where no one can really agree with it?"
...
A lot of games (such as BC2 on PC) already have a colour-blind mode.
So it isn't that innovative at all.
The goal is to prevent cheaters.
If someone hacks on your server, you can ban them, but they can make a new steam account and go back to hacking.
By making it premium-only, you ensure that those kind of douches don't plague your server.
Other than that, new players are perfectly fine (and are actually necessary to maintain a healthy server)
I can notice a difference between 120 and 90fps on a 60hz monitor.
It's a difference felt in the controls and not necessarily in the visual fluidity.
... but black isn't a colour.
"lool how can you throw a grenade at a wall an the wall is unharmed??"
... the same reason you can take a shot to the chest and not fall down writhing in pain.
i.e. it's a game that can sacrifice reality for the sake of fun
As far as the engine is concerned, the old IW engine (MW/MW2) is still impressive seeing as how it boasts 60fps on consoles. (Which will probably remain unrivaled until RAGE shows up)
Most devs stick to one e...
... but do you really 'own' a physical copy? (Barring all the legal jargon they stuff into the thing)
You can't play your copy on any system, you can only play it on one specific manufacturer's system dictated by the copy you bought.
If in the future, the manufacturer decides to abandon backward compatibility, then you more or less own a useless copy.
There is no true ownership at all no matter which domain you pick. You'll always ...
... Don't they own Impulse? O.o
...The same reason they're popular in real life?
.... Ooo Ooo Ooo Oo?
Though it's a bit naive to assume that games would be cheaper if piracy dropped.
My rule is to stay away from any game that uses the number '3' to represent 'E' in its name.
One of the new abilities Recons will have is the ability to unroot small plants/bushes and hold them while moving. This allows the Recon to move around stealthily (a make-shift ghilly suit) but limits their weapon choices to one-handed guns (handguns)
... Damn it, I started this post out as a joke, but now I really wish it was in the game. =(
Doesn't BF3 have comparably expensive marketing as well?
Also, your last three points are the same. Might want to fix that. Other than that, good list.
... what an intriguing URL.
... way to burst my ego bubble, bro. =(
That's odd, I was able to predict the contents of the list before even reading.
Granted, I thought of more than 4 games... but still.
It's amusing how CoD gets bashed here for being kiddie and skill-less... and then seeing IGN hail it as one of the best competitive games on the PS3.
Makes no difference to me.
If they want other publishers, then all this means is more competition, and ultimately, the consumer wins.
Though, they don't seem to be trying that hard. This weekend, they had their games for up to 40% off... which is laughable when Steam has EA's game for much cheaper.
Well, the requirements didn't indicate anything that one can't guess to begin with.
I'll just wait till the beta rolls around.
