lol, my dad is 70 years old. No way he is going to start playing video games. The last time I handed him a controller, he just looked at me with that, "What, are you crazy?" kind of look. He wonders why I as a grown man play these things, haha.
People that don't like eye grabbing article titles that make you say, "What? Wait a second fella", do not realize that is good journalism. If they grab you with the title, even if misleading, they have gotten task #1 complete...getting your attention.
I always thought the future in games (at least a future I would have liked) would be more games that have endless replay value because of user created content, published DLC, and a community to keep it going. Even though LBP is not my kind of game, the spirit is right there with how I thought the next gen should go. Another great game falling along these lines was Burnout Paradise, continually making new content for the fans.
I always thought what would be great in a game like...
Game play in this game was great imo. Sure some of the side missions are basic & repetetive, but that really applies to all games that have followed the GTA series with open world structure of main missions/side missions. GTA, Saints Row 2, Red Faction Guerilla, Prototype...all have repetetive side missions. You don't have to do them though.
Overall, I think this game was top notch. One of the best next gen games out there imo.
lol, some people were no doubt partying hard with that 50 million dollar payola.
I've always loved the Half Life games, and think there is no foul in a company not wanting to develop for another platform. However, some of their comments in the past have been a little odd, and seem more about posturing than reality. They don't seem to make sense at all about the PS3 not being a good platform, when all these other fabulous games are coming out on it.
I heard a rumor that the economy is bad, and people are losing jobs. Crazy huh? People come up with the wildest stories. ;-)
Pirates can walk the plank. They are not only stealing from the software companies, but in extension also from every person that buys the software. We are subsidizing the products that they steal. So they are burning us as well as the software makers. They better keep hiding under a rock as far as I am concerned, because they really do deserve an ass kicking if they come out of their hiding places.
60 dollars to buy a 60 million dollar game? Sounds like a heck of a deal to me!
Good article. It is always interesting to me to hear artists talk about what moves them, and what frustrates them about commercialism. As a musician, I have a similar feeling about wanting to do your own thing, and being absolutely bored with the mainstream that I really don't have a clue on why so many people like.
I bought Noby Noby Boy without knowinng anything about the maker of the game, and I always wondered how a wierd little game like that comes about. Hopefully this g...
Hmmm, all this time I thought the PS3 was created to grill hamburgers. No wonder I get confused when I go to the store for some stuff to cook up on the PS3, but instead only find games for it.
Funny debate on the virtues of addiction.
But you all should know that being an addict of anything - pot, games, food, alcohol, chocolate, whatever...is all about giving up your control & free will to a vice. At first there is enjoyment. Years go by, and eventually your addiction dominates your life and controls you. The enjoyment is gone, but the obsession remains. And you don't even know why anymore why you feel you can't live without something that overall now makes you ...
I have to agree, but I won't go so far as saying these games are garbage. But I will add that I thought COD4 MW was a real let down for me after all the great reviews. I think it really had to do with my expecations of a realistic FPS, only to discover all those arcadey aspects of the game instead. Just felt like meh to me compared to FPS games of the past that I really enjoyed.
I'm an old game player. Started playing Pong, then Atari, then Coleco Vision, PS1, PS2, etc, all the way through now with the PS3. Not only do I like playing, I have an appreciation for the whole evolution of video games as a player. The artistry, talent, creativity, and amounts of content & detail in the software these days is amazing to me.
I'm 44, and see no shame or embarrassment at all about playing video games. Some of the people my age, who kid me about being a dork...
PS3 owner here, and no, not at all interested in Modern Warfare.
Last month I bought Batman Arkham Asylum, Fallout 3 GOTY, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Uncharted 1 & 2, & Borderlands.
On the download side, I bought PS1 classics Oddworld 1 & 2.
We have a lot of games to play, and i could care less about MW, or any Activision games.
Some people enjoy self pleasuring more than having a real lover. Glitching/cheating in a multiplayer game is akin to that mentaility. It is really about non-participation in the online aspects of a game, but instead treating other players no differently than single player campaign computer AI. It is a flat out dis to all the people playing the game legitimately.
Some people wonder the same thing about Disney movies...but it is the kids that get their parents to spend all that money on entertainment. It is where the most profits can be made if you have the right product. Kids are very persuasive at being a pest until they get their parents to buy them that special thing they want. Christmas is coming soon.
No,gaming isn't dying because of these games. Little kids need their own platform, and they have it with the Wii. They sell a lot of Wii's purely because of the family market niche. On the other side of the fence, there are still lots & lots of more serious harder edge games being made for the PS3 & 360.
They are pretty much at the limit of what I am willing to pay for. If they go above 60 dollars, I will not buy new games anymore.
haha, this truely sounds like an epic WTF moment in video game history.
