The changes made to the CPU and GPU of the Wii may make the Wii U better than the PS3 and 360. But, it will quickly be out-classed by the PS4 and 720. It happened two years later than it should have.
If they had released it in 2010, it would be the lead console right now. It would have had 2010, '11, '12 and most of '13 to dominate. Now it has slow sales because everyone knows that better consoles are coming out this year. Nintendo may have milked the Wii for too...
The idea that every game will have to use Kinect is being overblown and misinterpreted. I would bet it needs to be part of the system, but not necessarily part of the game. Kinect is just another interface method. More in line, most likely with the future of controls. The future of controllers will probably be more of a hand attachment than a gamepad. And motion controls will be a huge part of that. People need to get over that and start to let go of the past.
The future of ...
Even without right of first refusal Microsoft still made out well when they let Bungie go. They still got to keep Halo. Halo 4 has already sold over 7 million copies. Considering they sell it at $60 and don't charge themselves a royalty fee, they have made several hundred million already. Once they release a few more versions on the next Xbox they will easily hit the billion dollar mark.
I'm pretty sure MS has right of first refusal for a period of time or a set number of games. It was part of the contract to let Bungie go.
When MS let Bungie go I think they included a right of first refusal clause for a period of time or a set number of games. Bungie has some kind of obligation to MS still.
Actually it's more like the arrogant move Sony pulled with Blu-ray. People paid $600 for a console that could have been $400.
The reality is the next Xbox was going to be $400 no matter what. So Microsoft is only cutting into their profits. Contrary to what people believe, these machine will not cost as much to make as people think. A lot has changed since 2005. CPUs are cheaper to make and so are GPUs. Plus they will most likely be on the same die which cuts cost almost ...
@Kevlar
The Wii U will suffer because all of the power of the PS4 and 720 will be for more than pretty pictures. It should allow for better physics, AI and things going on on the screen.
And I hope, maybe most of all, that it allows for no more load screens.
The rumors mean nothing. Even it Kinect needs to be attached it's not a big deal because it will be included. No used games, big deal. I've never seen a developer or console maker worry about how well their games do in the second hand market. And gamers are going for hype. No popular game is more than $5 more new. And the less popular games drop in price quick. For those reasons, the used market is for people with no patience and that don't look around.
Kinect wil...
He could have gotten everything he got from Sony from others too. More in fact. Sony has been on record saying over and over that they will not pay for exclusivity. We have also found out that they also often demand the rights to the IP on some games.
Small companies need to do what is in their best interest. Multi-platform or cheapest should always be their direction in the beginning. If all of Sony's support left them bankrupt at the end of the day, it wasn't enoug...
Orwell thought the government would watch everything you do. Zuckerberg realized if you gave people a space on-line they would tell you everything on their own.
1 point Zuckerberg.
Gaming is far bigger than back when Sega did it. When Sega did it, the market was kids depending on Mom an Dad to get them a console for the most part. Now it's adults that will get what they want. They will be making the decision between a new $500 phone and a $400 console. Or a $250 pair of shoes. Or sunglasses. Or something. Consoles are no longer a Holiday season only purchase.
Times have changed. Smart companies should recognize that. The ability to see things as th...
Foreign peoples when will you learn that we Americans are crazy. It seems everything that we try so hard to protect ourselves from are the things we suffer from to a much larger extent than the rest of the industrialized world. We may never get that our need to demonize things and each other is the very thing that causes most of our problems and is destroying our country.
It's not guns, movies, video games or comic books. It's actually just Americans. We seem to be i...
So Pelosi is a semi-honest politician. Who knew.
I was just using that key demo markets love. I'm in the same age boat with ya buddy. More than half way to another decade and looking forward to seeing what Sony has to say too. I hope it's about the system and specs. Or at least some gameplay.
Let's get one thing sorted out first. Are you under the impression that Gamestop severely undersells the developer. I have bad news, they don't. The games that most people buy are only $5 less. So those people with $30 won't be getting anything anyway. Or at least not anything that they wanted. Unless what they want is really old or was cheaper than $60 new anyway. Games like CoD and Halo will always be just $5 less than new. So there is no real savings. In fact, you can get them ...
If publishers had any sense they would be stressing the tools used to make games. I won't pay more than $60 and based on the number of people moaning about blocking used games many other won't either. Publishers might price themselves out of the market if they get too greedy.
Why is it Apple can announce a new iPhone and release it within a week or two and sell millions, but gamers don't believe a console can be announced and launched within a few weeks and do the same. The same age group that buys all of those $500 dollar iPhones will buy those $400 consoles. Any time is a good time to launch a new console when it's been almost 8 years since the current generation started. There are millions of 18-38 year olds with $400 of disposable income. If there were...
I don't call it rumors when companies patent things to do something. You can speculate whether or not they actually use it. But we know the technology has been made.
You can say you won't block them. But if you do this...

it must be for some reason. Add that quote to the many other things they said that they eventually went back on.
I'm sure developers will look at supporting the console that supports them. Used games don't suppor...
Green you definitely bring up a good point on the sharing of specs. I've seen rumors that Kinect will have it's own CPU this time. I wonder if it will be just one more resource for the system to use.
I think MS will still include an APU for BC. Probably just a chip just like the one in the current 360. But instead of it being just for BC, it will also be for anything else that the developer wants to use it for. Same for the Kinect CPU. MS has been doing a lot of work ...
