Okay? Gameover because they announced a feature available on Halo for four years? Really?

Fanboy nonsense aside. It was an impressive conference. The visual quality was great. A lot of the features were similar to the leaked Xbox that Microsoft confirmed as real(always on component too). Except that the Xbox had three CPUs and two GPUs.

I think this will be $400 at most. APUs are cheap to make. Not the same as a separate GPU and CPU in cost and it could be as...

Of course they will accept it. Hypocrisy is the main source of sustenance for the fanboy.

Sony has learned. The PS4 seems to be more traditional in it's architecture. They have Kaz in charge even though they knew he wanted to follow Stringers ideas. The advertising couldn't be helped. They didn't have the money.

I'm not sure that they have learned on the exclusives. It seems to have earned them loyalty when it comes to comments. And those people do seem to buy the console. But they don't buy those exclusives. So there is some benefit in increa...

The mainstream press, with their failing print businesses, have noticed that gamers are an easy target for hits. It increases their advertising dollars. Stop feeding the animals.

The main part we disagree on is the benefit to the consumer. If a consumer sells a game to Gamestop that will be re-sold for $55, that doesn't help the consumer nearly as much as it helps Gamestop. It's truly like the relationship between an addict and a dealer. They both are getting what they want. But one is getting a much better deal.

If you look at it as beneficial to the industry when someone gets $25 for a used game and uses that money toward a new game, you ha...

Besides Nintendo, the console business model has always been to lose money in the beginning and then make a profit from the console as you bring the cost down on parts. That has almost always been the case.

But times have changed. The next generation of consoles won't be so expensive to make. It's funny that many people saw the leaked documents for the next Xbox, that Microsoft admitted were from them, but most missed the part at the bottom that said they expected the...

You never saw the articles about Microsoft partnering with cable companies for IPTV several years ago.

I think people are being really short sighted when they look at things like this. First off, companies survive by diversifying. Entertainment, including gaming is a ever growing section and any major company should be trying to get their foot in. Things like this are the things that will benefit everyone in the end. Whether or not Microsoft handles it correctly.

Here's how. Right now there are a few people that decide what gets greenlighted for us to see. Expanding that ...

Because they are trying to sell a overpriced slightly better current generation console months before very powerful next generation consoles are announced.

@Sophistocrat

If you understood what he released on a deeper level you might be able to figure out things about the hardware that Microsoft wasn't ready to reveal yet. No one really knows what the parts in the next Xbox or PS4 can do yet. Chip makers assume a lot of things that time proves are wrong. But releasing specs and identifying parts will make Sony look at those parts and start trying to figure out why they chose those specific parts. And using that and other info...

Actually I've never looked at that GPU being a problem, if there is more than one. I believe the next Xbox will heavily rely on HSA. That GPU has Accelerated Parallel Processing. I believe it is just the foundation for Microsoft engineers to build their own GPU. They will use updated modifications to get a ton of power from it and their advancements in HSA will allow them to get better efficiency out of having several CPUs and GPUs. It will all equal a very powerful console.

I don't think a store selling new games only can last. It would be a terrible business idea. The big Box stores are going to have to figure out a way to stay in gaming once digital becomes that main way people acquire games. And they don't get 20-30% profit off of new games. They only get a couple of dollars off of each new game. The make their money selling consoles and the majority on accessories and other things. The games just bring people in the door. Up-selling is how you make ...

The 360 hasn't been sold at a loss since mid 2006. The PS3 started to break even around 2010. Nintendo did start making a profit day one on the Wii U, but it's not selling. And the next generation is starting this year. The Wii U may be king of the hill in the current generation, but that generation is almost over. So it will only get worse for Nintendo. Though I don't see them going out of business.

I think this is a dying argument. It may go on another ten years but then it'll be a non issue. Graphics are reaching photo realism level. At that point other things will begin to matter more. And it is at that point that consoles will take over.

This generation or next, consoles will reach that photo realistic level. Also at some point in the next ten or fifteen years the different kinds of interfaces that consoles will use will surpass the mouse and keyboard. And at th...

Madpuppy look at that article again.

"Microsoft engineers presented the new SoC and apparently did a lot of the layout (or perhaps all of it) themselves. Given the unique requirement of consoles—the system must perform exactly like the original Xbox 360—and despite a five-year gap and multiple iterations of Moore's Law, the consolidation presented a few interesting challenges."

Notice the "Microsoft engineers" part and look at the par...

I wouldn't be surprise if the Wii U version was better than the PS3 and 360 versions. The Wii U should be a more powerful machine. The GPU alone is far better than the one in either of the other consoles. And the CPU has some much newer tech in it that should make it at worse on the same level as the others. But if it's better than the PC version something is wrong. That would have to go down as bad programming.

Masa,

I could see the extra effort if ...
