Premium pricing is sometimes based on ripping early adopters. It won't take long for prices to drop. The real problem might be getting mainstream Americans to bite. Many don't really notice the difference between HD and upscaled. 4k has to really look like a huge leap to get them to move up.
Also there are the TV stations. The government made them switch here. I don't see them allowing themselves to be pushed into new equipment so soon. Plus a lot of TV personali...
The problem is that the specs aren't usually finalized until late. Like you said. The early specs are based on off the shelf parts. The released machines will not be off the shelf. And considering Microsoft has such a huge CPU group of their own, I'm not sure what we can take away from the rumors of a Jaguar core. The 360 uses a PowerPC CPU but the final version in the 360S is not what IBM made. Microsoft completely changed that themselves. So even if the next Xbox is based on Jaguar....
I don't think more power will kill small developers. In the past I don't think console makers cared as much about how hard their machines were. Microsoft has changed that. They focused on tools as a way to give themselves a foothold. So I think better tools will make a difference as time goes on and that will keep the mid-range companies in the game.
What is killing developers is the inability to come up with new ideas. But I believe that new, more powerful system wi...
No one can tell which console will be better based on any of the leaked specs. No one knows what the final builds will be. No one knows what 8 Jaguar cores are capable of until later this year. The PS4 power belief is based on both using Jaguar but Sony using a more powerful GPU. But no one has said how many GPUs the consoles will have. And no one has said what modifications have been done to the APUs. The best thing to do is to wait and see what is launched. No one is going to release specs ...
I think Sony is kidding themselves if they think they will have any hardware superiority this generation. Here's why.
AMD is making Sony's parts. AMD parts are the basis for Microsoft's parts. But Microsoft has their own chip engineers and partners with AMD on their APUs. So MS has access to everything Sony will, but Sony doesn't have access to everything MS has. The APU in the current 360 was developed by MS and though it uses the same ATI/IBM parts, it is a ...
I'm not sure streaming games is the best route unless they plan to charge for it. It would be another added cost for Sony given that they have trained their fans to believe expensive things should be free. It would be best for them to shrink the CPU/GPU as many die sizes as possible and combine them if possible. That way they can add that cost to the price of the machine and it's done. They don't need another constant bill.
I don't believe the specs leaked so far are any indication of what the ability of next gen machines will be. There have always been rumors of multiple GPUs. And multiple APUs. One of the leaks recently out showed a Northbridge on the CPU. AMD Fusion chips don't have a Northbridge. This is all still speculation. Another huge point is that none of the leaks mention HSA. I believe HSA will be a huge part of next generation. Modified APUs with more updated HSA features will boost the powe...
Yeah, we know MS doesn't care about the hardcore because when they announced their new console and all of it's games. The games were all for Kinect. What else is going on in the future?
It's amazing that as Sony sells off assets in an effort to survive that gamers still don't think sales matter. The inability to understand simple facts is why America is so screwed up. Bad decisions put Sony in a position where increased sales have not lead to increased profits even with the absence of a normal huge advertising budget. MS, on the other hand, continues to increase profit even though revenue was down. It's not about sales, it's about poor decisions. At least Kaz...
The thing that stood out to me is how much they are spending on R & D and advertising Xbox. Half a billion on advertising Xbox and 400 million on R & D. No wonder that division struggled to make a profit over the years. Add advertising for Surface(that has to be half a billion too, commercials are on constantly). I hope that 500 million is for everything but knowing what it cost for prime-time 30 second commercials on hit shows and number of times you see the commercials and I can see...
Most of the rumors have been about low watt APUs. They won't be near the 200 watts on the 360. Plus the next consoles will introduce APU's that will be the closest on the market to full HSA machines. In traditional computing they seem middle of the road. But if they are HSA, they will be far more powerful than the specs would lead you to think.
The GPUs won't be the story.
What Nader has done for more than 45 years says a lot about what he would have done. As much as politicians have tried to drag him down over the last 45 years they haven't been able to. He has always been clean. He has never gotten corporate money. He has never been caught in a compromising position. He has never wavered one bit in anything he has said and no one can show that he has. You can't say that about any other major political figure.
No mistresses, no side m...
I agree gaming has zero to do with violence in real life. Politicians know this but they are pandering to a certain group of moron. Many of those same politicians love the military. And the military loves gamers. The reflexes gained by playing shooters fits what they want in a soldier.
The military uses games to make soldiers willing to kill easier. It's funny that the military uses shooters to get soldiers to shot faster, but more than anything in basic they break them ...
I guess you can say Nader is irrelevant. But that is because the voters of this country are the idiots.
Here's what we would have or be closer to if Nader had been elected back in 1992.
Affordable education(that actually works too).
Affordable housing.
National healthcare.
Pay equality.
More money in your 401k because he would have locked up most of corporate executives by now.
Cleaner water.
Better gas...
Then judge yourself on your ignorance. What is conservative about Ralph Nader? Didn't you notice he was a Green Party candidate. Before that an Independent. He wrote a book in the 60's titled Unsafe at any speed. That book and his law suits against the auto industry are the reason cars are safer and we actually have seatbelts in them. He sued so that the Auto industry could no longer put profits ahead of driver safety.
He is an environmentalist and has fought for many...
I don't believe this is real. Microsoft's own leak showed APU's being used. This is not what I've seen from any of the work AMD has released for their APU's. I don't know much about these diagrams. But it doesn't look right to me. Very, very different. Could one of the more knowledgeable people explain this set-up in comparison to a typical APU set-up.
Forbes isn't run by haters. It run by business people. People that realize gamers cam be flamed into giving them hits on their site so that they can say they have a varied and extensive group of people looking at their site. It's all about making money on a dying industry. Articles hits create revenue lost by paper magazines.
Nothing to see here. Just a dinosaur trying to save itself from the tar pits.
I have a lot of respect for Nader. He is a smart guy and usually on the right side of most issues. Above all else, I believe he is one of the few "politicians"(not sure I'd call him a politician, I don't believe politics are what he wants to do)who is actually honest. Check his Wiki

On this issue he couldn't be more wrong. I think he has be...
Even if Sony waited another year I'm not sure they could catch MS on power. I believe MS will have a fully functioning HSA chip. Or as close to it as anyone will have in 2013. And HSA will increase the power of that console 2 or 3 times if not full HSA. SOny will have some HSA capability because that is the route AMD is moving to. But AMD works with Microsoft on HSA and it's Microsoft engineers that are pushing the tech. Because of that I believe Microsoft will have an advantage. AMD ...
Competition is good for consumers, not businesses. That's why there is no real competition. No quality brand really under-prices another. You may have certain situations like gaming where cost dictate. But the reality is that in our day to day lives there is little competition when it comes to product pricing. ADM is more the norm. Prices are fixed one way or another. Since the early 1900's.
It's great if it's real. But it is rarely real.
