Actually most people are wrong about the cost of the new consoles. $300 is very possible. If you look at the Microsoft leak from 2010 they believed they could have 3 CPUs and Two GPUs for $300. These are 28nm APUs. The GPU and CPU on one chip. The APU in the 360 Slim should be less than $40 now. An APU with a 7xxx series card is $130 now retail. Close to the GPU in the PS4.

I think the PS4 will have the ability to block used games. It just may not be used in the beginning. If Microsoft does block used games and developers find out they make more money because of it, Sony will do the same. If not, developers might lean toward the 720.

The focus on Kinect argument is and always will be silly. It was as silly as Sony's focus on exclusives. Most didn't sell. But they have manged to convince many that it means Sony cares more for gamers. So in that sense, it worked. Microsoft did the same thing with Kinect. They increased their install base to include casual gamers.

Sony definitely did a good job. They had me interested in a PS3 but killed my interest with the price. By the time they got it down to a reasonable point I had lost interest since most of the games I play appeared on both systems.
They have my interest again. And since the parts they are using leads me to believe this console will be no more than $400 I will stay that way. That and the choices Kaz is making.
Microsoft still might block games. Sony has taken a position. MS could poll developers, if they say they believe it helps them it could happen. I don't think there will be many exclusives this generation outside of 1st party games, but this could have an influence even it was just additional content.

The specs may have been dead on as far as what parts are being used. But we have to remember that these are modified parts. And a much bigger deal is that they are both new architectures which no one has outside of AMD, Microsoft and Sony have probably even seen. So no reporter can tell you the ability of something he has no experience with.

We don't know if these specs are better than the Xbox specs. All of the comments don't seem to know or understand the MS supposed leaks. Kinect 1.0 already does what they said the PSEYE will do. I have a feeling that since Microsoft has dedicated seven years to designing their own chips and working side by side with AMD that they will most likely have a more heavily modified chip built off of the same parts. After I heard that was a APU I knew they wouldn't even hint at price. Many people believe this will be a $500 or $600 machine. As long as they think that, people will continue to buy PS3s. Closer to launch, they will announce $400 and have less concern for PS3 sales. The right way to do it from a businesses perspective.

Trying the Cell wasn't as big of a mistake if they test it first. The general point of the design is where computing is going. Like Larrabee, it didn't work. AMD's first few APUs haven't been great. But they re-design and re-design because they know it is the right direction.
