Or you could buy two quality used cars, a nice new car or a home in a terrible Detroit neighborhood.
I furious I read most of Francis' article. He leaves out a lot of information and doesn't understand some of the financial stuff. Sony as a company is turning things around so buying now while the stock is cheap is the way you buy stock. Microsoft is also undervalued with or without gaming. It's been low for years based on the belief that Google or Apple will take over the productivity software business. Let's all grab a blanket and wait with them on that one.
No way they would drop down later. Ea is being greedy. As many titles as they put out year after year that use the same engines and assets. And these are titles that sell well. Madden is a constant roster update. Still sells over 5 million copies. EA needs to take some of that money to make their next generation engines.
@PockyKing
You would think people aren't willing to pay $60 with all of the complaints about blocking used games. I'm not sure how would pay $70. They would have to include more stuff. Maybe the extra ten be the financing for All or most DLC.
Edmix,
Another thing you're not taking into account is that while Sony hasn't opened Kinect only developers, they have closed some of those hardcore studios. So give Microsoft credit for the foresight to drop what's not working. As time goes on and Microsoft has given Sony true direct competition, Sony has adjusted the way it does things. They have to look at it as a business instead of throwing money at a wall.
And the "I just want good game...
No Blue. I'm not saying you're a fanboy. I'm saying those are fanboy arguments. They are based on nothing but a "My chose FTW" mentality. I'm saying to feed into them.
Edmix,
The goal is the same. The dancing puppets game is not aimed at the hardcore market. Both systems are trying to capture as much as they can of an ever expanding market. A Market that includes more and more casual players. Players that over time can be moved over...
Grassyknoll,
Any popular used game is usually only $5 cheaper at Gamestop and can usually be found much cheaper on sale. Less popular games are quickly discounted new. It is very easy to buy new for cheaper than used.
Rain, If you assume that people that buy used games would never buy new you're kidding yourself. And if you don't believe that, your other option is that you believe new games don't provide any revenue to the developer.

It's amazing people buy into those two ridiculous arguments. Fanboys are incapable of reason. They are fanboy arguments and should be ignored. Use common sense.
The Wii U is probably more powerful than the PS3 and 360. I'm sure it is. But it still looks like a slightly enhanced Wii on paper. They got a lot of additional power from re-designing the same parts with more modern technology. There is no reason to be the PS4 is more powerful at this point. Microsoft's o...
@Zebra
True enough, but until we see the final parts we don't know. Overall I don't think Microsoft's goal is to save a ton of money. The 720 might be more expensive to produce. Though probably not by much. I think MSs goal is performance. And the differences in their design are based on things they've figured out.
PS4 has a similar camera included. DDR5 is a lot more expensive than DDR3. Kinect 1 was never as expensive as people thought it would be. Next Xbox might be using a cheaper GPU which is a lot less. They may be using two of them but it still would be less than the one in the PS4. No One knows the price until we see the actual parts. But there are plenty of reasons to believe the Xbox will still cost less to manufacture.
Pachter did at least get it right when he said the new c...
I think a lot of people are looking at retail prices of parts and comparing the two. It's not the same. These parts will belong to Sony and MS and they will shop them to the cheapest manufacturer. Plus there is no retail markup. Look up the teardown BOM of many products like iPads and other consoles and you will see that SoCs are really cheap. Or you can look on Newegg at the cost of a APU and then subtract retail markup and manufacturer(AMD) markup. #0-40% percent of the price goes away....
Sony has stated their specs aren't final and they have stated they will release this Holiday. The days of setting the specs a year early are gone. Both can still change some things.
@bicfitness
But Sony also knows they owe there existence to the Japanese people and I believe they will remain loyal to that.
It won't launch worldwide. Plus if the specs aren't even set they couldn't have started making consoles yet and probably won't be for several months. That means some territories will be left out.
I think this will definitely be a feature on consoles. The APUs are designed especially for putting off compute functions to the GPU. Jaguar cores should definitely be capable of this.
There are ways around that. There could be donate codes for friends and family. Permanently transferring the game to them. Borrow codes. Allowing a two week or more transfer period. Or share codes with a limited number of people.
Gamers think it's in their best interest to have used games. Even tough we have already lost so many studios and many more will be lost or merged into EA or Activision. If a company the size of THQ can't survive how many of the smaller ones will. Soon we will be down to EA and Activision. Two companies with bad reputations for customer treatment the way they do business. Keep looking to get around developers being paid for their work and you will be giving gaming to guys like Bobby Ko...
I read comments on this site sometimes and I pray they are from a ten year old that hasn't read anything outside of a gaming magazine. Some of the comments are clearly from people sheltered from reality. Their "my console FTW" style comments will hopefully be replaced by comments based on facts and an understanding of the real world. Sadly, I then turn on the news and realize they could be in their forties.
Edit: Oh my God. I just read the comment above mine(don...
Am I the only one that noticed Forbes actually did a gaming article where the author actually had a clue?
Or it might go down as one developers love. Which could lead to better support.
It's funny to hear people say they will boycott a console that doesn't allow used games. They'll still pay EA $60 for a roster update. $60 a year for map packs based on levels from the game. And $60 for games with online sections where half the players cheat and the developers barely try to stop it. And you can best believe Kotick will support this. If MS does it and Sony leaves it up to the developer.
Tough talk anyway. When a must have hits, you'll all end ...
