The error could have been that they didn't want people to know how many people were doing work on the PS4. Not listing people who weren't.

That is all true. But we already have the ability to limit the ratings of games played on a console or gamertag and other features like you mentioned. But the problem is we're dealing with scapegoating here. So the facts will be ignored in order to sell peoples political position.

@Godmars290

But that is my point. Sony could always depend on gaming in the past. Every other division was up and down. Then they hit a patch where almost every division was bad and on top of that the PS3 was killing gaming too. The PS2 couldn't overcome the losses from the PS3. It almost bankrupted the company. I still think they need to make changes in TVs. Or maybe drop them for now. Or use their name to go bargain TVs until gaming and cuts can build up their cash.

Have you considered that just because the parts are based on certain parts they will have some of the advantages of future parts. For instance, the Xenos in the 360. It had unified shader architecture. No mass market PC GPU had that when the 360 was released. No mass market chip like the Cell existed. Unified Shade became standard in GPUs and some parts of the Cell went into making Power cores for IBM. Right now no one has full HSA. You're a AMD guy, you should know Jaguar cores are proba...

Blah, ack. Another bad article. Based on the silliest side of rumors. Next Xbox geared toward Kinect. Wrong. If better Kinect means the next Xbox is geared toward casual will everything else stay the same. Or will it have more power because hardcore games are important too. Microsoft doesn't have to react to Sony if they have confidence in what they have. It's just other people that will worry. Based on all of the technology that Microsoft has been developing or are rumored to have de...

That sounds about right, Godmars290. Somebody has to pay for that infrastructure. Hope they convince the fanboys. Platinum could allow you to stream all PS1 and 2 games.

Deadlyfire,

I assume you also believe that the PS4 won't come close to competing with PCs. I don't. I know design trumps pure power. Power over all is like the Russian air superiority argument. America has better slower planes somehow.

Godmars290

Sony could have gone bankrupt. They are still in danger. The PS4 does go a long way toward getting them healthy again. I think they are making a mistake not adding the tech to other devices. ...

Sony poured millions into exclusives on a generation that was already over. I'm not sure where the logic is in that. It may ultimately benefit them in making so many loyal to them through the misconception that only Sony cares about the hardcore. But from a business standpoint, it wasn't that smart for a struggling company. Sony still had their name and only needed to ride out the remained of the PS3 generation. The 100's of millions used on exclusives that didn't sell got the...

Everyone should have seen this coming. Movies and music already are regulated. Movies to the greatest extent. But games are unique and bring the experience to the person more so than movies. We may start to see games listed at some sort of NC-17 level. Or they will self sensor and cut back on the realism. It might be better that they do it then to leave it to a government working on behalf of other industries looking for a scapegoat.

Fanboys are so irrational that even when the other guy is using parts not available to the public they call it outdated.

Computersaysno,

You sound like so many people that believe the status quo will never falter. Intel is the big dog and always will be. You are in for a huge shock. Intel tried and failed and seem to be willing to bet on more transistors. That will fail. AMD has come up short but have the sense to keep going. Because of that they will be the winners in the near future. Your way of thinking is why so many lose in the markets. They can't see the writing on the wall. You obvio...

Wow Computersaysno, there you go again. To you I guess Intel is still selling only Pentium 4s. Or is it that Intel is the only company that can improve a core. Every APU from now to the end of time will be a Bulldozer core. My comments weren't aimed at you. Well, I guess in general. I also guess you didn't watch the slideshow on the advantages of HSA in gaming. Maybe you believe the current APUs use HSA(they don't). And while I believe the PS4 will be a monster machine, I believe ...

But like many other parts that have been made they don't always have the capabilities they thought they would have. USB 2 wasn't fast enough and they probably thought they could over come the issues of through software updates. Like the compression they added later. It didn't work out.

But anyone thinking we aren't moving to new ways of interfacing with machines hasn't been keeping up with technology. It's going to happen. Kinect is a small step in th...

@Viper

You're exactly right. The main APU will be for games. Most of the other things will be handled by specialized equipment or a secondary CPU. In the PS3 and based on Microsoft diagrams on the 720 as well. The 720 is supposed to use a second APU. And the main point went right over the heads of the PC people. HSA.

A lot of that speed and power of the PC is not outdone by the difference in the latency of the APU in HSA. The entire article was pointing ...

It seems Sony developed their own version of Kinect. But it was rumored sometime ago that Sony was going to license Kinect for their TVs.

Big deal. I can get it for $55 at Gamestop. Thank God they exist.

The author is overstating the expense of adding BC to the 720. The fact that Microsoft moved to an APU for the Slim and IBM is working on a 22nm chip leads me to think that MS could do BC very cheaply. They are still using AMD for their GPU so I think it will have full BC. BC should add less than $15 to cost of the 720. And despite the power of new systems, they aren't as expensive as previous consoles to make.

People keep thinking these parts are getting more expensive ...
