Not just a graphical downgrade, but an everything downgrade. Comparing the original "gameplay" video to these videos of the beta is just depressing. The graphics got a gigantic downgrade obviously, but so did the level design, encounter design and the AI, which now just stands exactly where it's placed in the level and shoots at the player like a turret. That and the level design is basically big rectangles with waist-high cover dotted about, which is completely different from t...
@candystop
Killzone 2 was a fantastic game and although Killzone 3 wasn't as good, it was still a great game. I do have reservations about this game myself however since by all accounts, the last game that these guys released was absolutely terrible, so I'm not gonna get hyped up for this when at the end of the day it could go either way. The graphics look nice, though.
Dude you can emulate PS2 games on a toaster at this point lol. Most people jack the resolutions and framerates up higher than they ever were originally and even add in higher-res textures and ENB effects on top, far surpassing what the PS2 hardware was ever capable of.
Seriously, I know some people have some weird pride about the PS3 architecture and how unconventional it is but you're kidding yourself if you don't think PCs will be able to emulate it just fine once d...
When PS2 emulation just began it required incredibly powerful hardware because there was zero optimization.
As time went by and it was optimized however, the requirements for running the emulator went down fast. The same will happen with PS3 and 360 emulation as the developers of the emulators gradually figure out how to make it run more efficiently. Bear in mind a mid-range PC these days is absolutely lightyears ahead of the PS3, once things are optimized they'll be able...
What about people who have a lot of digital PS3 purchases but don't want to have a PS3 hooked-up to their TV forever? I've already paid for the games, so I don't see what's cheap about running them via emulator on PC so that I don't have to have a whole bunch of video game consoles sat underneath my TV.
The same goes for older gen games for SNES, PS2 & GameCube etc. because there's no way I was going to keep those consoles lying around forever, but...
You do realize you're literally arguing against Microsoft engineers, right? You're basically saying that the people who made the Xbox 360 emulator for Xbox One are wrong/lying, and somehow trying to argue against reality itself.
@OpenGL
The Xbox One does in fact emulate the Xbox 360. It even states so in the link that you provided, as well as the quote that you posted. Notice how Mike Rayner said that the games are packaged in an emulator?
Also, Richard Irving says that the games are running on an Xbox 360 emulator on the Xbox One, as you can see in this video here: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I'm surprised that the cost of last-gen consoles (both the PS3 & 360) is still so high, to be honest. The PS4 and XB1 were discounted to prices only £20-£30 more than the price of a PS3/360 during the Black Friday sales, for example. Last gen consoles are long overdue price drops.
Well, technically the Xbox One is already running an Xbox 360 emulator. The guy who put it together to enable Xbox One backwards compatibility explained that the emulator software is just a Windows app that they got running on the console.
Obviously the big advantage there however is that the Xbox 360 emulator for Xbox One was made by Microsoft themselves, who have a deep understanding of the Xbox 360 architecture and will be able to run it as efficiently as possible on the X...
Pointless debating what specs are required to run games since there's been zero optimization work done on the emulator. The main goal right now is getting games working and eliminating any bugs or glitches, then the optimization will come afterwards.
As it stands however, the fact that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 emulators can already run some games at full speed (Ridge Racer 6, Disgaea 3 & Catherine are some examples) with zero optimizations is incredibly promising. My...
Naughty words?! Preorder canceled.
I wish they'd make a Katamari game for current gen consoles, it's really exciting to think about how huge and item-filled the levels could be on current gen hardware. It's been six years since Katamari Forever released on PS3 :(
My vote would have gone to Bloodborne, that game is a prime example of stellar art direction.
The thing I don't understand is people keep saying that if exclusives came to PC on the same day as their console counterparts it would impact sales negatively (this is when talking about both Xbox & PS4 exclusives) but the thing is, about 95% of all console games are on PC anyways and yet millions of people still buy consoles and games for them anyways? I'd have thought that people would have realized now that there's literally no negative to releasing exclusive games on PC b...
Yeah, it looks like the game will run on a toaster so most people should be getting 1080p & 60fps with ease. Really makes me wish Bloodborne had made the jump to PC as well because getting to play that game at a solid 60fps with no framepacing weirdness would be incredible.
If the PS4 has a five year lifecycle that would mean that after three years of development on this game we'd see the PS5 hitting store shelves. When you take a look at how long Kojima takes to make his games and then take into account the extra effort required to make games for current gen hardware, his game could very well be pushed to the next console generation instead.
Of course, this is merely going on guesswork as to how long this console generation will last, but t...
Damn that's some messed-up lighting, it's almost like the whole world is illuminated by flash of an atom bomb, it's horrible to look at. They might wanna redo all of that voice acting as well.
It depends on how long this console generation lasts, to be honest. I know there's a lot of rumors going around as well as people hoping that we see new consoles from Sony/Microsoft in 2018, which in my personal opinion is far too soon but we've now had Sony go on record as saying that they want this console generation to last five or six years (I forget where I saw this now, but I remember it being in an N4G article) after feeling that the PS3/360 generation lasted too long.

The publisher (Square-Enix) would want the bigger profits, but the developer (Crystal Dynamics) would definitely benefit more from the exposure and developmental assistance from being exclusive, even if it's only timed.
How does it not benefit Microsoft or Xbox when they're selling more copies of games and populating the online modes with more players? It's a win/win.
