Considering how quick Square-Enix was to announce the game coming to other platforms, I think the guy commenting below that the timed-exclusivity was a Crystal Dynamics initiative might not be far from the truth.

I had no idea that they were so closely aligned with Xbox, but now that you mention it, it does make sense. I remember the original Tomb Raider reboot being unveiled during a Microsoft E3 conference, and they said that the 360 version would get exclusive DLC. It does seem reasonable that this guy or others at CD were pushing for Xbox exclusivity for ROTTR and perhaps Square-Enix weren't too sad about seeing him go. It was definitely weird when you take into account that Square-Enix has al...

I'm sure that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will scratch your cyberpunk itch, especially since Human Revolution really felt like a Ghost in the Shell game for much of its duration.

As for Kojima, I'm personally hoping that he makes a horror game and basically puts together what Silent Hills was going to be, just without the IP branding. There's no doubt that he will have had a huge design document and many ideas for the game, so I like to think he'd want to continu...

I agree with DARKKENT, even the PS3 which was unfairly bashed for supposedly having no games had a much superior exclusive offering compared to the PS4 at this point in its life, not just in terms of quantity but also quality as well. Besides, even Sony themselves have admitted that their lineup hasn't been particularly great so far and it's tough to look at the multiplatform offerings when we've just seen a lot of the same old rubbish (Call of Duty, Assassins Creed) flooding the ...

You'd think so, but those PS+ & XBL subscription fees are pure profit, none of that money is put towards improving the online service of either console. Both networks will be going down over Christmas and the downtime will last a while. I think last year Microsoft was quite quick to act at least and got things up and running again after a day or so, but I'm expecting Sony to completely drop the ball and leave us with significant downtime yet again. Honestly, if you want to do any ...

Don't be surprised if modders got fully working PS1 & PS2 emulation on the PS4. We know for a fact that the console is powerful enough and it's just locked behind Sony's paywall, so custom firmware could give everyone that much-requested functionality.

They'd probably give everyone that "appear offline" functionality that people have been asking for since launch as well. Kind of a must if it's gonna be running custom firmware :p

I'm not sure if much will come from jailbreaking current gen consoles due to the heavy reliance on online connections and vast amounts of patches just to fix all the games that release in unfinished states.

That's not to say that anyone who jailbreaks their consoles are prohibited from going online, but it's not very wise to do so seeing as how console manufacturers can tell when you're running modified firmware and ban your console, although I think after a w...

Yeah, it's definitely not a beta because they've been ignoring all the feedback for it, just like they did with the Uncharted 3 beta. There's been masses of complaints about how broken the AI sidekicks are for example, and how much they ruin the game, but ND won't do anything about it. I've seen a lot of complaints about the down-but-not-out system as well, and how it really ruins the Uncharted feel since it slows the game down far too much and doesn't fit, and one of ...

Same here. The PS3 and 360 should have had price drops a long time ago and it's bizarre that they haven't. To put things into perspective for how strange it is, both the PS3 and 360 are sold for £200 (500GB versions) at retailers in the UK. The PS4 and XB1 have both seen their prices go as low as £220 during recent sales which is only £20 more than their predecessors. It makes no sense.

Yeah, but are you still going to buy the games? Are you still going to buy the DLC?

I saw an article the other day about how much money Halo 5 microtransactions have made and it was depressing to see them raking in so much cash, which guarantees they're going to push that kind of thing so much harder. Naughty Dog did the same nonsense with Uncharted 3 and people supported it (as well as their disgraceful season pass crammed full of recycled content) and then they pushed e...

Yeah, but when exclusive games like The Last of Us or Halo are riddled with microtransactions, people are suddenly fine with them.

Sames goes for DLC. If it's a multiplatform game like Evolve that's pushing DLC heavily people will take a stand and boycott the game. If an exclusive games is pushing DLC heavily however? All of a sudden people claim it as "Unprecedented support" and insist it's because the developers care about their customers so much.

If Sony was buying I'd love to see them try to strike a deal with Platinum Games, because it's frustrating having all their releases spread over so many different platforms. I'm not sure if Sony would consider it worthwhile or be happy with their performance since their games are so niche, but being able to count on a fantastic action game from those guys every couple of years would be a huge boost for Sony's first party if they acquired them.

It's far too early to declare Tomb Raider dead because we have no idea how the game will perform on PC & PS4 when it launches. The reboot a couple of years ago was a great game that performed well both critically and commercially, so to assume the franchise is dead before the latest game has even hit other platforms is foolish, in my opinion. Besides, the general consensus thus far seems to be that this game is even better than the last one, so I think that when all is said and done i...

After how much of a slimy troll this Greenberg guy was during the 360/PS3 era, always spouting nonsense on Twitter and being incredibly arrogant and full of himself, it's nice to see him have to dial back all that BS for a change and eat some humble pie.

Phil Spencer always came across as a likable enough guy, but this Greenberg guy should have been booted with Mattrick.

We've no way of knowing if Rise of the Tomb Raider was a flop or not until we see how well the game has performed after it's launched on PC & PS4. Trying to call it now is a little pointless since it could be hugely successful when all is said and done. Some games fall flat on their faces at launch and that's it for them, but given how the ROTTR releases are staggered, it could end up having a long tail and being hugely profitable.

I'll definitely be check...

Looks like an interview with Yoshida that went live today further confirmed everything I said. So there I have sources from IGN, Eurogamer and Shuhei himself. Sorry to crush your little attempt at trolling there but uh, I told you so (:

The most common mistake developers make is trying to copy COD without realizing that the way to successfully compete is to offer something different as an alternative. If people want to play COD then they'll play COD, not your COD-lite wannabe. The best thing to do is offer something unique that stands out.

As for SOCOM, I thought that SOCOM 4 was a decent game and MAG was pretty good as well, it was sad to see Sony shut down Zipper Interactive. This interview just confir...

I think Evolve had the most potential out of all these games because it was the only one trying to do something that was genuinely new, and the idea of the video game equivalent of the movie Predator is excellent.

I only played the beta on PC but I remember the game being really fun, and I kinda regret not buying it and launch and enjoying it for two or three months while the community was active because it was a fun game, but the greedy DLC practices pretty much killed it. I...

I'm still confused that a certain website that was running a heavy PR campaign for the game on this site was insisting that the criminally short length of the game was somehow a speedrun. I remember seeing the video in question and the person was just playing through normally (not rushing, let alone coming anywhere close to what's considered a speedrun) and yet we had people losing their minds over it and insisting it was some kind of conspiracy and that everyone who reviewed the game...

Yeah, it looks like they raised the prices of some of the games. I remember The Last of Us Remastered being £39.99 but Sony has raised the price to £44.99 for this deal. Really crappy thing to do.
