"The situation is a bit similar to someone trying to replace Facebook. It doesn't matter if a new, better platform comes along. People are already used to Facebook, and they have all their friends/stuff on facebook. It's very hard to convince everyone to move to something else all at once (remember google+ ?)"

You're forgetting that Facebook did exactly that to Myspace, which was the dominant social media site before Facebook came along.

I read an interesting article once on how pornography had warped the sex drive of some men, which was openly discussed with those affected. One of the problems discussed was how pornography was making it increasingly difficult for these guys to find arousal and satisfaction from traditional/vanilla sex. It was actually a fascinating read and presented in a mature, level-headed fashion. It also made some interesting points of how people have access to pornography at much younger ages now thank...

As far as I understand publishers have to pay a LOT of money to Conan for him to show their game on TV. To funnel so much cash into a one-off advertisement will definitely have the involved parties wanting to show the game off in the best possible light and let's be honest here, the video game industry is in dire need of a heavy clampdown and regulation with the absurd amount of deceptive advertising that's frequently used.

The fact that this industry also pushes peop...

You could tell something was up when despite using crowdfunding to develop this game, Slightly Mad Studios pooled their resources into making that free-to-play World of Speed game rather than focusing development efforts on Project Cars. It's a shame because a couple of years ago this game was promising.

I hope that this isn't indicative of weakness with Sony's lineup this year. The reason I went with PS3 last gen was for the exclusives during a time where Microsoft took their lead for granted and pretty much relied on third-party games and content (such as timed exclusive DLC).

If Sony goes the same route and simply rely on their cross-promotion for games like Destiny and Battlefront I'm going to be really disappointed. Bloodborne is the first truly great exclusi...

Yeah, and they accomplished all of that with actual gameplay footage. No faked "in engine" trailers, no stupid cinematics, just pure honest and genuine gameplay footage with an explanation of how the game itself works.

Such a refreshing change when you compare it to other developers who can only talk about their realistic materials, or "beautiful lighting" or "gorgeous textures".

Avalanche knows that gameplay is what matters, and...

Yeah, it looks like a PS3/360 launch-era game. It also looks really bland and soulless as well, a problem that Activision's Guitar Hero revival is also suffering from.

The SSX game from 2012 is a great example of how to revive an old franchise like this, the developers of Tony Hawk would do well to take note.

You raise a valid point there, but I was talking more specifically about action-oriented games. You're right though with what you said about RPGs.

For me however, things like collectibles/trophies aren't a substitute for the replayability that you get from multiplayer. I mean for me, if you compare a single multiplayer map against a single level from a singleplayer game, most action games will have you experience that one level in the exact same way every time because...

I find it strange that so many people on N4G praise games for being singleplayer-only, while at the same time complaining about games being multiplayer-only. It seems pretty contradictory and also bizarre given that singleplayer-only experiences are prime rental candidates, whereas games that focus on offering a multiplayer experience offer a lot of replayability.

I'm quite pleased that there's games such as Evolve and Titanfall that aren't afraid to ditch the sin...

Yeah, the short gameplay clip they showed of that looked a lot like Uncharted, and even had the playful style of dialog between characters as well. The similarities were uncanny.

Hopefully it's a traditional 2D game in the style of Symphony of the Night. I could see something like that being a huge success on Kickstarter given the talent involved, and I also think it's something fans have been craving for a long time now.

That's not to say that a 3D game couldn't work, since games like Bloodborne prove that it can be executed correctly, but a traditional 2D game really would be nice in my opinion.

For only $19.99 per month we can get access to great games such as Farming Simulator.

Excellent.

The weird MMO grind fest is designed with one thing in mind: microtransactions.

That's all they care about, is selling those stupid shark cards so people can not only buy their way to content they should have access to anyways, but also buy their own advantages over other players. Whoever is willing to spend more money wins, plain and simple. That's why Rockstar has repeatedly lowered the in-game rewards you get so people can earn less and less in-game money without b...

Weird how you never see mass layoffs at studios that make successful games.

@vallencer

Whenever Sony does something bad or wrong it's easier to say, "B-b-but Microsoft!" rather than coming to terms with the fact that things like this are unacceptable.

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure the PS4 has already been more successful than the PS2 was at this same point in its life. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being more successful than the PS2 when this console generation is over, and if they drop the price to $300 at E3 then yeah, their sales will just skyrocket even more.

I want to see them be smarter with their investments. I want them to give funding to talented studios who deliver high-quality games such as Bloodborne, rather than throwing away five years worth of development costs on garbage like The Order. Hopefully we see Shuhei getting wiser with what projects he funds now and money is used for developers like From Software and Hideo Kojima (I'm praying they pick-up him and his studio after MGS5) rather than the crap we've been seeing the past c...

Why is it that people always fall back on the "B-b-but Microsoft!" defense whenever someone criticizes Sony? I don't care what Microsoft does because I don't own an Xbox, so pointing a finger at them for whatever reason doesn't make much sense when we're discussing the PS4, does it?

I mean take this for example:

"So you're going to cal Sony scummy for having paid subscription when it was Microsoft who brought that into the i...

@Messiah23

I agree, PS+ has absolutely sucked on PS4 and is a huge downgrade from what we saw on PS3. I'd have canceled my subscription long ago but Sony decided to be dirty and force PS+ requirements for access to online multiplayer now. It was a scummy tactic but it worked I guess, since there's people like me who are thoroughly disappointed in how bad PS+ has become but need to stay subscribed because we play games online so much.

But still, Sony a...
