You're not allowed to say anything positive about the Xbox Series S on N4G, it throws people into a blinding rage because they think their console is being held back by it somehow.

and don't start on The Lord of The Rings! Three books just to return a ring back to where it came from. Awful. Should have just had a fast travel option.

can broadly agree with you, however RRP isn't really much of an indication of how much a graphics card costs any time in the last few years. Earlier this year you'd be paying over a grand for that kind of card, a few weeks ago it'd be around $300, this week it's more like $400-500 and chances are if you're talking about a 2070 then you already have one (it's 2 generations old and significantly older than a PS5) so the value proposition of using a card you already own t...

Perhaps I have poorly worded that. I am referring the SPUs as the specialised cores. They are not able to be utilised plainly like the PPEs were, that the Xbox 360 had more of and used exclusively and Sony used as the core of the cell. The cores that for many games were the ONLY threads that many games actually bothered to use on the PS3.
"If it kept being successful then imagine how great the PS4 would have been when it only had a slight CPU boost coming from PS3" actually...

"I still to this day wish developers got familiar with the Cell architecture and it succeeded. It would destroy modern CPUs today in nearly every way."
Damn, even this many years later you're still rolling out that rationalisation? Sony clearly acknowledged what they did wrong with their design of the PS4, you're allowed to as well.
There's a reason nobody is using the cell design anymore. A bunch of specialised cores is inherently poor design for gamin...

Oh yeah, I imagine there would be very few major games developed in the last 20 years that didn't copy things that worked from previous games in terms of structure and design. The blunt language just made me smile. And I guess opens him up to some click-bait titles.

"Look to your peers", "stand on the shoulders of giants", "don't re-invent the wheel". Or in far more blunt down-to-earth British dev terminology: "rip it off" hahaha

Ah nice! Actually already had this set up for my wife's machine (1080ti) thanks to whatever legend created the FSR 2.0/2.1 mod that basically replaces DLSS. That worked great although there was some more extreme ghosting around the back of a bike you were riding compared to DLSS. Other than that it was nearly perfect already (and still 100% worth using) so hoping the official version clears that up.

Yeah but in reality Lucasarts was dead a long time before Disney bought it out and officially closed it down. They were already outsourcing other developers to make their games, and had long since killed off their legendary in-house original IP studios in favour of making the big bucks with the star wars IP

"Microsoft on the other hand pretty much relies on Unreal"
Ummm. Once again ...what on earth are you on about? Halo, Doom, Forza, Fable, Minecraft, Starfield, the Elder Scrolls (I could go on,) none of them use Unreal.

How do you handle going to the movies (24fps)?

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think the imperfections in the originals actually manage to add to it. Like how awkward the combat was in Silent Hill 2 created this added level of panic and fear to getting attacked by fucking terrifying monsters. The goofy english voice over work also added to the general eeriness too. Silent Hill 1's pathetic draw distances were used in it's favour too, the fog is now iconic. That team just did a really good job of working within the limits ...

My point (as it is apparently not immediately clear) is that many multiplatform games were indisputably held back on every other platform by the fact they had to release and run on a PS2 (the PS2 had a mere 4MB of video ram). And yet I would seriously struggle to call this "anti-consumer" to all the other consumers of different, more powerful platforms.

I'm trying to make you apply your logic to a different case to perhaps isolate your blinding bias. Obviously...

I'm guessing you never lived through the PS2 era then from the perspective of literally any other platform.

I don't think you understand what anti-consumer means dude. For a start the developer isn't the consumer.

The FE card draws 500w when fully GPU limited. And if you overclock the FE card that goes up closer to 670w. So it's not just the board partners going crazy

@Fishy Fingers. I mean, I would have considered it if it fit within the still-kinda-crazy 350w power window that the last gen 3080s and 3090s did (yeah I know the Ti versions bumped up a fair bit more). I've got a 4K 144Hz monitor.

But everyone's got their limits, their red lines. Everyone will need a new PSU to go with it, and you won't want to cheap out on it. You've got electricity bills to pay. The people who can justify spending this kind of money on a ...

Yeah it would definitely be Sony not allowing PSVR2 on Steam rather than the other way around. Steam would love to have another headset on there. And as an avid steam user I'm cool with that if they have their own VR launcher for games they sell through there optimised for the PSVR2 (as Meta/Oculus has done). As well as just taking the full fat cut of the money they want having their own platform/launcher also allows them to make sure their games adhere to whatever standards they want as ...
