I've noticed this with the--albeit limited--other reviews as well. The QA fumbled so tragically that selecting to restart the game via pause menu (not after completing a chapter) can habitually cancel out mission markers. You're a boat without a paddle lest you quit out to the main menu. It's also priced at $30!!! How did they think they'd get away with this?!?!

"Lee, you definitely took one for the team playing this game."

Uncharted 2 released in 2009. And decades go from 2010-19, 2020-29, etc. It looks confusing at first but count it out and you'll get 10 full years.

Beat me to it. Major props for them, especially since it's just the numbered order & associated picture.

What the hell were the nominations for Best Storytelling this year?

Late response and all, but...I was a bit distracted.

-"Maybe, but I'm trying not to be quite so reactionary anymore. I'm not always perfect, but it is what it is."

Totally understood. But if there's one thing regarding the 'journalism ethics' discussions of the past it's that I don't mind jumping the gun when potential impropriety isn't brought up. The updated disclosure policies many places had are just basic n...

Turns out they're going in the direction I thought.

"DONTNOD has worked closely alongside Microsoft and the LGBTQ media advocacy organization GLAAD in shaping Tyler as an authentic representation of the trans experience, as well as a genuine, multidimensional character."

I disagree. I think it could have some...

"It’s pushing an agenda to be sure."

Eh...not really my intention there. You've said what you needed to say about that, so let's avoid going down that rabbit hole.

Now, a part of me thinks I'm misreading this but I can't help but notice the dialogue, visual framing, and more in this trailer suggests there's a transgender-violence story at play. If DONTNOD is thinking of going down that path? Eh...best of luck with that.

(I could be totally misreading that though)

Microsoft offered money to DONTNOD to develop a game and then they said 'okay.'

I apologize for spoiling this story before the game's release.

-Okay. I'm not trying to throw shade at you maliciously by using that term, but don't you think it still applies? Because there's still an offsetting of ire that comes back to what I've said before: how much this may or may not have influenced their review despite them being huge Kojima fans already. Again, I think that doesn't move the needle much--especially with how GG would act with just an ounce of blood in the water elsewhere. Yes, the industry reeks of open or h...

-"I just don't recall the controversy lasting that long, and while it may have been something that caused bias for Famitsu, in the end, does it really matter when the reviews line up with others?"

Well, that's a tough question dependent upon where you are in regards to game journos. As I brought up with someone else below, you're free to have your own thoughts about Famitsu in this case:

"They're not much of a reliable site...

"In the end, I think that since IGNs review was in line with other reviews, people ended up not caring..."

It depends on who's asked, really. There are forum threads regarding this back then (their site and elsewhere) and even older comments on their YT review suggest some people cared. Some cheered it as a cool inclusion, but more seem to tip the other way.

But I think what's being disregarded in that comparison is both the timing and...

While that's fine to give a broader context of his reception by Famitsu, that doesn't really do anything to move the needle of this particular discussion. And this actually touches back on something I'd countered previously regarding game reviews: if you think multi-person reviews for one game should be the way to go...what happens if ONE of said people may be tainted in some way?

You're free to brush it off with "eh...they'd probably be crazy for ...

"The only “pre-conceived notion” I had was that it peaked my interest. That’s about it, nothing else. No wanting it to be something else, No assuming it would be the next Metal Gear."

Sorry but you're essentially moving the goalposts. You can't admit to watching the initial trailer and limit your preconceived notions to "I was interested." No, you would've then known it was Hideo Kojima's newest work, you would've seen visually stra...

"I avoided all trailers with thee exception of the initial on."

That literally means you came into DS with preconceived notions like the review is talking about!

If only that type of response carried some weight, instead of just being a go-to whenever someone has a different opinion.

Eh...my site? I don't share any financial stake here.

Anyways...

You're talking about a site that does cross the threshold of what's allowable on here and some users seemingly thought so as well. No need to get so hot & bothered b/c someone hated a game.
