"Other people liked this game therefore YOU can't even consider it among the most disappointing of the year."
You literally harm your pathetic defense in your 1st sentence with what you imply in your 2nd. As you noted with Metal Gear, Kojima isn't mistaken for Cliffy B. He emphasizes intricate game systems in either stealth games or adventure one-offs like Snatcher. You would have to scrape incredibly hard, and ignore so much counter-evidence, to find comments that satisfy your theory.
It shows a unique level of desperation in defending this title when you have to create a...
-"Wouldn't disappointment imply it didn't live up to what was shown/promised?"
There's always the pitfall of what you, the audience, were hoping it would accomplish as well based on someone's reputation or past history. Generally, what you're going for would be the case.
-"What exactly did Death Stranding show that the final game didn't deliver?"
Well, that's kinda the funny thing about...
Interesting choices. Props for that.
Thank you! Your case is something I'm often reminding people of, because you certainly weren't the only one. Several prominent users here framed DS's previews as "Kojima keeping things so close to his chest" and went on to praise him.
-"I'm one of the people that was actually excited for Anthem. It looked great when it was first shown off."
Yeah, XBL friend convinced me to jump on that train early and our collective enthusiasm fizzled out at roughly the same time (~3-4 hours of play).
I mean...you gotta take it up with virtually every other site in respect to these hybrids, then. The Game Awards and other prominent places who give prizes have all placed it in the strategy genre.
Looking great. One of my most anticipated games of 2020.
Fire Emblem was a candidate under the 'Strategy/Sim' category during the vote process.
Since the staff/user split is right down the middle, I think it's more a case of Worlds' popularity overwhelming Disco's intrigue and uniqueness. Were it a summer release with more people having a chance to try it? The results could've been different.
I'm on the opposite end of that spectrum: Greedfall was my first Spiders game I played and I'm interested in hopping into their past works (even if they're less polished). Given their reputation, I'm with you on this feeling like their breakout hit. Even financially, it's performed incredibly well for Focus Home on the steam charts.
-"They now have a publisher willing to put more money behind their titles too."
True, but ...
I'd add Greedfall to that list.
It pains me that I (currently) can't argue on this point. Interested to have a thorough deep dive into Dark Descent soon though. I adore SOMA's world and story though.
I'm literally complaining about several things. That's what articles are sometimes for. And regurgitating the same complaints you've had since the start makes you even more uninteresting--surprising even me.
-"How about using your own platform to make your lame idea of a proper award show?"
The site's no different from others in respect to end-of-year awards. But that's the great thing about the internet: the freedom to ...
-"Stick to spitballing sales numbers, nobody gives a shit about your opinion on the game awards."
Yeah, yeah, says the guy who cared enough to start out with a lazy rejoinder in this comment section.
-"Just like nobody gives a shit about who a round table of “journalists” decided to hand out their award to. Sekiro GOTY."
Literally the Game Awards GOTY announcements posted here EVERY YEAR say otherwise. Now you'r...
-"Yeah 45 million people watched because of the awards..."
Haha...you're kidding yourself if you think THAT'S what made all of those people watch it. The Frito-Lay Friar was constantly amping up all the exclusive announcements to show. That's also sort of the problem: maintaining a cycle geared more towards hype than celebration.
-"There was nothing “insane” about it and your context is garbage."
*Say...
I don't think there's anything wrong with them "staying" were they to improve. Then again, I am just seeing those viewership numbers they've posted so perhaps they're thinking 'full steam ahead' without tinkering with this egregious formula.
Do you not understand context? The fact that advertising is A PART of an awards show to keep the wheels turning isn't the fundamental issue; it's the inundation of them that's the problem. Using terminology like "insane commercialism" makes it pretty clear we're talking about gaming's P.T. Barnum (Keighley) fixating on what's ahead rather than looking at the past year. And isn't that the point of these things? For us to be more celebratory about accom...
Haven't played it, but its review are what I'd call fair or modest. You can check out all related reviews for it if searching for the 'Lost Ember' tag.
Isn't that synonymous with "most disappointing" already?
