Not really a new IP if it's in the same Gears universe.
I mean...do you think that assessment is too generous to CD3 or just right? Nothing is added by bringing up another game and walking away.
@CharlessTGG
100% with you on that emphasis. I hope nobody misconstrues that I'm saying "more teraflops means the argument is closed!" I'm specifically focusing on Thundercat77's argument.
It's rather ironic too. For a site that has spent so much collective energy HAMMERING Microsoft on "the power of the cloud" (a theoretical/wishy-washy concept to amplify console performance), taking shots at the very opposite (ra...
Speaking as a BE fan, it's a shame to see this being one Bleeding Edge's most prominent articles since its release. I'm not so much bothered by the score but rather HOW said score was reached. The scatter-brained, aesthetically-unpleasing site layout makes it hard to find their review methodology (and I'm still looking). Beyond that, I take issue with some of the claims made.

You hit on an interesting point about review scores and how the general populace perceives them. I've been approached about low scores where they believe ANYTHING below a 5 starts getting into 'busted mechanics' territory. To me? 3/10 just qualifies as a quintessential 'bad' game. How one arrives there doesn't necessarily have to mean 'looking broken beyond repair' levels.
-"All those putting their hopes on just Teraflops are in for the biggest rude awakening after "The Power of the cloud" narrative."
But that's a false comparison. The fact that TF counts have substantive footing is by being the exact OPPOSITE of Da Cloud: by being raw, concrete numbers.
Huh? I thought they shifted their focus to Half-Life: Alyx.
I'd argue the movie/TV side led the franchise astray. Whether it's Abrams' Bad Robot Productions or CBS, I wouldn't be surprised if those higher-ups would only eye media that felt more like a blockbuster. The solemn, exploratory emphasis is something like a walking-sim/adventure probably wouldn't make it past the concept phase.
Absolutely wasted potential.

"There IS no overheat problems..."
But the evidence suggests that it certainly WAS a problem.
@RememberThe357
What prominent online console game (pre-crossplay) didn't have hackers? We could go around this circle all day. Still a pivot from my main point.
This is such a dishonest framing of the conversation. Contesting the arbitrarily imposed walled garden of the past comes with the assumption that developers OUGHT TO handle any issues with cheaters & hackers.
Personally? I didn't care for Deliver Us The Moon. But I agree with your overall message here.
Because Square Enix. It seems like every published title of theirs, regardless of its structured release, has to fit a specific $ cost.
EDIT: I think Nier: Automata (XOne) is the exception.
Technically, this score reflects that he still *likes* it though when considering his grading rubric.
And it's a shame too b/c the buildup is well-paced and it seems like it has a handle on things.
@majiebeast
1.) He's also credited for working on Wipeout.
2.) Why does someone who's worked on Sony IP's not get credited as an ex Sony dev?
3.) That's essentially a guilt by association, made even more foolish by the fact at how easy it is to receive correspondence from anyone on twitter. Just @-ing someone is enough to get them involved.
Good god...the weird lengths people will go against ANYONE who comments on thi...
Nah...EDGE is generally a more modestly critical reviewer of exclusives & multiplats alike. On the PS side, they're big fans of Media Molecule and Naughty Dog--but that's pretty commonplace already.
Yes, it turns out once a game comes out it continues existing.
I'm still really curious how much Sony threw down for timed exclusivity on 1 of 2 expansions. Absolutely mind-boggling.
@Obscure
Those are all housed under what's considered the Mario franchise, so they technically are. It's just that there are disparate series and spin-offs WITHIN the franchise.
