@rainslacker The functionality you are describing is already in Star Citizen. CIG call it object container streaming and it allows them to stream assets directly from the storage media in a hierarchical manner. Allowing the games to be far be far more detailed and expansive than it would have been otherwise. It is why Star Citizen requires an SSD to be playable.

Well historically consoles have been well tuned to run games. PC hardware often relies on sheer brute force especially at the driver level to compete. Thankfully the growing adoption of Vulkan and DX12 on PC will change this and just like on consoles developers will be able to make more efficient low level code.

It is certainly not the case that optimization is simply turning things down, If only it were so easy.

In terms of graphics certainly PC games are made to be scalable but that is about all that scales on PC games.

I certainly expect third party developers to really throw themselves into the fray one or two years into the new generation but MS is the platform holder. Surely the first ones to truly push the Series X into the next gen should be MS. No one thinks Godfall should be a showcase for the PS5 unless of course Sony was making it but they are not.

That being said very few of the games that released in the first two years of the PS4 and XO were generation defining so maybe MS can...

What is baffling is that Google is doing this after they rolled out the service.

The phone released 12 months later is not going to drop support for all the stuff that works on the previous model or even worse resell it back to you.

Sure it costs £1000 but I am sure most people spread that over 2 or 3 years.

It's not a stretch to think some games will achieve 4k 60Fps. Some Fps games like Doom, Wolfenstein, COD and Battlefield target 60fps. Racing Sims and sports games tend to target high frame rates and some actions games like DMC target 60fps.

With all the studios they have purchased things might change but even then to reach the level of qaulity Sony and Nintendo's studios have achieved will be quite difficult.

If you watch closely, in the trailer there appears to be other similar looking characters helping each out. It's not solid proof that there is some type of multiplayer component but their presence cannot be a coincidence.

While the studios do have creative freedom, I can understand it concerning Xbox fans if their studios are unable or uninterested in getting the best out of the hardware available to them. It might be the case that are not many studios under Microsoft that are capable of producing excuse the pun 'bleeding edge' games.

On the flip side, I do think people overlook the fact that most of Sony's reputable studios have been consistently putting out pretty competent AAA...

It has got the power of a PC and I suppose the ease of use of a console.

Gears 5 does look real nice but it's at the bottom at of that top ten if it even makes it in at all.

You can stream up to 1080p at 60fps at no cost, i believe streaming at 4k is what the sub is for.

It sounds like you are describing just about every service based game. Games are already being released for full price, incomplete and with a road map.

It certainly does not help that some of their biggest studios have been anchored to a single franchise. Surely The Coalition and 343 could have made a new franchise much like some of Sony's studios did this generation.

@GamePeace IMO the previous GoW games are endemic of a design philosophy that sees AAA games melding gameplay systems together in ways that allow none of them to be exeptional or even stand out. These games need to throw systems at you in order to "Break up the gameplay" and hence break up the tedium you would experience if the game actually had to lean on any one of those systems.

Zelda for example has dungeons that have puzzles often specifically designed for th...

@GamePeace I'm fairly certain the previous GOW games were Hack n Slash games, they are perfectly enjoyable but they are quite standard Hack n slash fare. Is there an interesting parry, gaurd or poise system like in sekiro or the soulsborne games ?...no. Are the combos as interesting, varied or as stylish as in DMC or Bayonetta allowing one to pull off long difficult combos without taking damage in order to attain higher ratings?... no. Previous entries of GOW just had simpler game mechani...

Miyazaki's games have managed to carve out a niche space for themselves and have kind of fashioned themselves into a genre in of themselves. Before the recent GOW game they all had bog standard hack and slash mechanics and they were never as intricately designed as something like DMC or Bayonetta where comboing and style take precedence. IMO what you were left with were game's that heavily relied on spectacle and AAA production value.
