An Origins remaster would be free money. The way the Mark Darrah talked about the code base was as if it was written in some ancient language. They need to get a few people stuck in, learn the ins and outs of the game and get a remaster off the ground. Touch up the textures, improve the shaders, add QOL features etc.

Developers can get away with so much in terms of copying games but to Tencent it isn't enough.

Is there plenty to enhance on a PS5 Pro? Resolution and a 60fps mode perhaps. The visuals, sound and artwork are already very good, so I'm not sure what there is left to enhance. The enhancement is also coming to Xbox and PC so what will be PS5 Pro exclusive?

There is not a whole lot to enhance, it looks great and runs pretty well too. Some QoL changes would be nice.

What will happen if the next family of Xbox devices sells worse than the current ones. Will they pack it in or regroup and make something fresh. Phil Spencer remarked on wanting hardware to sell on its merits. This is a sound idea in theory however given how the Xbox Series X stacks up against the PS5, Xbox would probably lose on that front as well.

Sony can also rely on their first party studios to get the best out of their hardware which a future Xbox console will not be ...

I imagine the same people that co-signed Concord also thought Bluepoint working on a live service GOW game was a splendid idea. The obvious project was a GOW remake, but I guess they threw the guy who suggested that out of a window.

With raytracing what usually relies on baking or done only in screen space is simulated more correctly and still in real-time.

The sooner developers focus on ray and path tracing the faster these techniques will get as developers invest more in the tech. Epic have already invested a lot in lumen and it is a fantastic RT solution for GI and reflections that supports both software mode of compatibility and hardware mode for Quality.

If the PS5 has enough p...

I think a lot games will be path traced as the PS6 should have the capacity to run something like Cyberpunk Overdrive RT with decent image quality. Photo realism though in real time is still a way off and even further away for a console.

I imagine the 6090 might be able to run full path tracing with high enough bounces per sample, along with all the denoising and resampling voodoo that people might not be able to distigush between an image that took minutes to render and on...

I had to mod the game to make it playable. Now that I am over 120h into the game the load times are unbearable, even with the game installed on an NVMe drive and running on a 5900x. Quite the skill that is. Maybe this update will change that I can an un-mod it and finish the game properly.

Less platforms less problems I suppose. I would have imagined making the game with an engine that already has tools and features to support multiplatform development would have allowed the team to jump that hurdle.

Rebirth is part 2 of a remake of a game that in 1997 was released complete. The next part is at least 3 years away. Spiderman 2023 will have much worse margins than Miles Morales and their next games would have exceeded 300m a piece if not for cuts. Shrinking margins are a concern for all the developers making cuts so where is fallacious thinking on the part of polygon?

Rebirth has a giant open world packed full of content; we can assume the budget is much higher than Remak...

As Bethesda have demonstrated for decades, it is possible to have fun with their games despite all the issues present in them. They can't even properly procedurally generate interiors, I have already visited several duplicated abandoned robot research facilities. How hard could it have been to create some more variation?

There are load screens everywhere, how on earth can there be a load screen when walking into a shop? Bethesda have been making the same game for decade...

Nothing about the way exploration works in Starfield makes sense. I don't get the rationale behind using a jet pack to explore mostly flat terrain. At least NMS had that nifty trick where using your melee before using your jet pack boosted you horizontally.

This would not be such a big issue if games like No Mans Sky, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous did not exist but they do. If Bethesda wanted to go the Mass Effect route they could have but they did not and have haphazardly created a game where you can explore a planet but in most clunky manner possible.

Perhaps there is a tendency for people to over simplify making new ip but the likes of Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, DA:Origins, Jade Empire, Kotor and Never winter nights all released in a 10 - 11 year window. The next 10 years saw Anthem as the only major new game.

It can be hard to accept that the smaller and less resourced they were the more able they were to make new ip. Bioware might not make make another new major ip for the next 10 years. We may end up waiting for a ne...

Given the history of gaming it is a bit humorous for gamers in their 30s to position themselves as old timers. If one is old enough then they will certainly recall when arcade gaming was big. No one owned the games they played or the machines the games were played on. That never stopped people from enjoying games and creating communities around them or committing to the craft. Arcade gaming gradually declined as well so there were still many games that had an arcade version as well as a home ...

The trailer is over 4 minutes long and there is a 20-30 second sequence of Senua walking that looks like it is being controlled by a player. The rest of the trailer is cinematics. I played Hellblade twice and it contains quite a lot of actual gameplay, Senua solving problems, environmental puzzles, navigation challenges and combat of course.

If Senua's Saga is anything like the first game there is plenty of game to show off. This trailer is pointless, they did not even ...

Seems like a good Idea to have learning models assist with npc dialogue. Their writers can focus on writing more impactful dialogue elsewhere in their games. Imagine working as an artist for a company like Naughty Dog but you end up texturing barrels because they need texturing but there are no tools to make that mundane task easier.

I can't imagine anyone who has demonstrated enough skill to work at company like Ubisoft would want to spend their days writing mundane di...
