The internet and the PC is reshaping everything. Do you want to know why PC mag sales are in such deep decline ? I will tell you it's thanks to the internet, why on earth would someone pay £5 for a magazine that is at least 1 month out of date when you can get pretty much up to the minute news on the gaming industry for free on the net ?

The recent fiasco with Activision and Infinity Ward is a good example of how the Internet dominates the mags. We had nearly minute by mi...

Yeah I got to admit this "quick sale" thing is getting a bit annoying. If you are going to put something on sale then make it a 24 hour thing at least rather than this pathetic "oh get it in the next 2 hours" crap.

"So my question is, why are all the PC games being ripped from the shelves? "

Erm I would have thought the answer was pretty obvious ? It's because the majority of PC gamers do not buy games from retail shops any more, so shops don't stock the games. It is the old law of "supply and demand" there isn't much demand for retail pc games and thus shops aren't encourage to supply the games.

I am an old timer when it comes to PC gaming, I remember whe...

"design shows how THQ are leaving the Games for Windows platform"

FINALLY companies are getting it into their thick heads that the GFW and GFWL branding/service is like a kiss of death to your game sales wise.

You mean 8 x AF (Anisotropic filtering) the PC version of GTA 4 does not have aa.

Just a heads up to anyone if they do get it, DO NOT UPDATE IT TO THE LATEST PATCH. The latest patch by good ole Rockstar Toronto has screwed GTA 4 up so much for a large number of users it isn't even funny.

Most people have come to the consensus that patch 1.0.3.0 or 1.0.4.0 are the best patches for this game, you will save yourself a lot of headaches if you avoid patch 1.0.0.4 and 1.0.6.0 (yep they couldn't even get the version numbering right).

@ 2Spock - If a game is successful on the PC (such as Crysis) it makes economic sense to bring that game to consoles. Unlike the console world there is no big money backer on the PC. There is no organisation to throw millions at Crytek to keep the game "exclusive" to the PC. There is no organisation to buy Crytek up and make it a first party developer exclusive to the PC.

The PC has to stand on it's own merits without billions poured into it to "prop it up"...

Yet again PC gamers bring the software industry kicking and screaming into the twenty first century with new ways of distributing their products. I love Digitial Distribution and never buy my games any other way these days.

"unfortunate that the episodes don't perform any better on the PC than GTAIV did, but that's certainly no reason for you not to enjoy them."

It isn't actually a compelling reason to buy them or play them either is it ? I bought GTA 4 and was shocked at how poorly optimised the game was. I held off ordering the DLC because I had a pretty good idea it would be the same with them.

What Rockstar have done to the PC version of this franchise is despicable. If...

No Zag that is another SPU, the original Cell in the PS3 was going to have 1 PPC and 8 SPU's. However this proved to be too expensive due to low yields in the manufacturing of the Cell processor.

So to make things cheaper Sony changed the specification of the PS3 to just 1 PPU and 7 SPU's. The 8th SPU was locked off whether it worked or not so that all PS3's were "standard".

Now all PS3's ship with a cell that has 1 PPU and 7 SPU's. However another SPU i...

After reading some of the comments from actual PC users there is no way this game should get 5/5 it would be generous to give this game 3/5 for the technical problems on the PC.

Ho well I might pick it up when it is £1.99 in a bargain bin. Well done Rockstar you have reduced the GTA franchise to bargain bin quality on the PC.

I should also add that Sony do this with the Cell as well. The cell is meant to have 1 PPU and 8 SPU's. However it ships with just 1 ppu and 7 spu's working. The 8th SPU is locked off because not all Cell processors will have a working 8th SPU.

It is just a way for companies to cut costs if you produce a 6 core processor and only 4 cores are working up to spec then it is incredibly wasteful to just "bin it". So companies like AMD sell it as a 4 core processor and so...

So they finally got round to fixing all the problems that have been around since day 1 (17 months later). I can't say I have much faith in this patch, historically Rockstar Toronto doesn't have a good track record with patches.

In patch 2 they improved performance slightly whilst somehow managing to remove nearly 30% of all the in game objects (and they didn't even notice)

In patch 3 they re added the objects and performance dropped significantly once more.

That's ok Ubisoft you keep evolving and improving your DRM I will just keep carrying on not buying your products. I haven't bought or played a Ubisoft game in years, I stopped when they started using starforce for their protection and oddly enough I am still alive and well having never bought or played a Ubisoft game.

The benefits of playing the game on the PC are largely the result of the superior power of the PC NOT because developers have put extra work in. A developer doesn't need to do much addtional work for a PC to play the same game at a much higher resolution (and hence sharper picture).

There are also extra hidden costs with consoles beyond the royalty fee. A single development kit for either of the consoles can cost close to £1,000,000 and that is just ONE a developer will ne...

It has already been said that there is a reason why PC games are lower in price. A console game has a built in royalty fee, at least $10 of what you pay for your console game goes straight to Sony/Microsoft even if they had nothing to do with the game.

The PC version has no royalty fee and as such games on the PC should always be at least $10 cheaper than the console. What is going on here is price gouging, companies are doing this because they think they can get away with it. ...

I really wish the PC Gaming Alliance would die. All this alliance seems to do is spout drivel and not actually do one single thing to promote, improve or better PC gaming.

"PS3 and Xbox 360 owners have had to shell out $60 per game for years now so it was only a matter of time before that price bump spread to the PC market as well."

The author of that report fails to understand there is a REASON why console games are $10 more than PC games. That reason is down to console royalties. The extra $10 that console gamers pay goes straight to the manufacturer of the console.

The PC naturally has no royalty fee and as such that sho...

Well they obviously didn't use them in those screen shots then I would say those screen shots look 99% the same as the xbox 360 version. I would hardly call that an upgrade, but then it is something to be expected from Rockstar these days.

Looks like Rockstar really went to town in improving the graphics for the PC version ....... oh wait they look exactly the same as the xbox 360 version. Nice one Rockstar really could you guys get any lazier on the PC.

I guess once again it will fall to the PC community to make this game actually LOOK like a decent PC game.
