Interesting indie+ game for the subject it address, and nice graphics, but no contender for Game of the gen by far.
I have the feeling a lot of people discussing this game never played it and believe it is some kind of Horizon like ARPG just based on its graphics.
I only hope Ninja Theory didn’t burn its wings with the marketing BS they have been involved on SX, and that Hellblade 2 will have more than graphics to proposed. First game didn’t felt like a sequel was ...
Really? 1440p ray tracing pc is something like 400 to 500 gpu, 300 cpu, 100 motherboard, 100 ram, 100 case and supply.
It is already a 1000+ mark.
How is it financially competitive vs console? Gpu only is the price of the full console, even if you upgrade this part.
Use parts? Well, used consoles are also way cheaper.
Really, it game parity which next gen console is part of the discussion, I see no way to built PC config ...
@Giblet
I got you point, but you will certainly agree that you will not be able to match game performances out of your 970 vs Serie X or PS5.
I think it is a matter of understanding of the question raised by this article: it is possible to game on PC spending less money than consoles ? Yes for sure.
Is it possible with the same game performances and graphical features ? Not at all in my opinion.
Everyone will pick ...
I don’t know a single PC player, myself included, that does not upgrade something on its machine every 3 years or so.
Plus, starting with a PC config that will usure console parity for 7 to 8 years requires a initial investment around 2k.
I cannot see how in the long term PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming.
Aside the cost and maintainability arguments I found very biased in this article, the other points are pertinent.
Temperature in game are lower than ps4 pro for example, but we don’t really know what is the GPU load required to make Gears 5 run.
Standby temps seems weird, in modern pc setups standby temperature of GPU and CPU dies is hardly over 45 degrees, and much lower for air exhaust
Air exhaust at 50°C on this SX in standby seems to indicate that something is going on in standby mode, curious to know what it is.
Could you precise what problems you are referring to?
Not sure it is a valid point.
Someone who want a PS5 or SX will not go to a Switch in case of financial pressure.
Why lost 200 bucks on something you don’t want, instead of waiting a little bit more to get the right budget ?
@dcbronco
So you really believe what you say, that devs only knows about Serie S from a couple of months ago and are rushing game conversion on it???
Come on man, be real here. Even if the console have been revealed lately, it must be part of the Xbox dev kit since the beginning.
You don’t have any clue that ray tracing and all other features on Serie X will be ported on serie S.
It is not because hardware is capable that it guarantees it will be usable on par with SX only by lowering resolution and/or framerate.
Devs can decide to skip using RT on serie S to favor other technical aspects.
No one here have any clue on how scale down to Serie S will be done, only guess.
It is misleading to ...
@dcbronco
RDNA2 will not miraculously make 4TF computational power behaved like 12TF.
There is no miraculous secret sauce, stop to be delusional.
All the casual gamers not spending their life on N4G, that candidly believe in MS PR on store sellers that need to sell their serie S stocks.
You start to see the issue then.
You blame the port this time, but time will help you to see Serie S is the real issue behind that.
GPU power is not about resolution only, any PC player knows advanced graphical features can tank framerate without touching the resolution.
If I must concede on thing to MS, it is that they have achieved to completely blur next gen definition in a lot of people mind via brute force PR.
As a 40yo gamer, it is sad to see so much common sense lost on cheap corporate tricks within a couple of months.
A testimony of the era we live on I’m afraid.
Yes we are, because your opinion is only that, your opinion.
Sounds like common sense for me also, except if some games will be serie X exclusives only.
But this would bring a whole other level of issues.
MS strategy with Serie S is really on the edge, curious to see how it will evolve.
Sounds more like accessibility washing feature than a real breakthrough.
Their is many more to do in the front of controller design and options to help disabled people.
Is this article for real?
Who hasn’t plugged a cable with no visibility, just by feeling the port shape? Sounds like much more easy.
Ok, that’s a great great addition I guess, but hardly a game changer for accessibility.
Impressive. Such clever design, the stand itself is a breakthrough.
I am always a fan of PlayStation motherboards design, it is so clean and elegant.
Next gen consoles are really a whole level above current gen in term of conception, congrats to Sony and MS for that. Engineers that worked and these pieces of hardware must be very proud.

I talk in euros which is the currency where I live. It was never famous on your side of the Channel ;)
