You need to learn to read them properly - and to consider more than one.
The GamePro review said that the controls in Lair hinder the playability of the game. That is something you should pay attention to because control matters and can make/ruin an experience. The review said the graphics were beautiful. I'd rather have just good graphics with spot on control than a beautiful game that was frustrating to play.
Reviews can tell you if there is something fundam...
This is big! Halo co-op was a blast on split screen - it will be even better over LIVE!
To prioritize my purchases...we have this, Mass Effect, Mercs 2, COD4, Orange Box and GTAIV and maybe Lost Odyssey all after Halo 3...
You're looking at a situation for new console owners where they can play Halo 3 or GTAIV for $410 plus tax.
To play GTAIV on the PS3, it will be $560 assuming the 60 gig supply holds out.
This will have an effect on console sales - the GTA franchise is HUGE(goes w/o saying), and will keep the console race very close even as the PS3 is starting to take off.
I'm going to reserve my copy today. I'm looking forward to a Deus Ex type approach, where it is not all run and gun - a thinking man's shooter.
And, as a long time subscriber of OXM, they do not inflate scores. In fact, I find them more reliable than some multiplatform mags where some editors are clearly fanboys. Obviously, all OXM editors like XBOX, but they are fair in their reviews - and not afraid to call something that is junk - junk.
They cited the gimmicky sixaxis controls and not always friendly camera as the culprit in an otherwise beautiful game. They said the game would have recevied a much higher score if it had the option of more traditional flight controls. Again, the graphics in Lair are beginning to show the amazing potential of the PS3...
I played the BD demo and turned it off because I was bored - it seemed the same ol' RPG stuff - and I'm not into cartoon-anime style. At least FFXII was intr...
I play a lot of online co-op with my bro-in-law. This could be a good title - but I'm also excited about Mercs 2.
I put in Burnout Revenge for my 2 year old - "Boom Car" he calls it, and it needed an update, but it wasn't able to complete it.
No bother, I just signed out of LIVE and played SP, which is what I was going to do in the first place...
Its like Bill Clinton and Bush Sr. - they are all over the place together doing charities and having a ball together.
When you underestimate and no longer respect your opponent, you lose.
So even if they are are "friends", they must respect each other, and in reference to the mistakes both companies have made - I think they understand - far more than we do - the challenges they face.
Honestly, how can you not give props to Sony for coming out of ...
Can't wait!
I'm hoping for a Saints Row set up regarding aiming - true third person shooting - no more lock-on targeting!
Which is good given the very crowded fall lineup.
Edit - sometimes it helps to watch the video first! Release date - 2/5/08
but NONE of them are actually at retail yet, I'll continue to wait while they sort all this out.
Unless it gets amazing reviews.
Frankly I'm more excited about Orange Box to get my invading alien-monster fix.
His goal was to make it accessible for button-mashers, but allow for complexity and cool moves for the hardcore. Kinda sounds like what the Too Human developers have said about their game.
Anyway, it looked good. The trouble with context sensitive buttons is them not doing what you expect them to do at times. I encountered this a few times playing Gears with the cover system. Most of the time it worked great, but there were times I wanted to scale a wall and went into cover...
The goal is complete immersion in a game - virtual reality, which will come either through a Matrix/Total Recall/Vanilla Sky brain plug in, or complex 3-D holographic projectors...the brain thing would allow for much more immersion because it could tap all the senses...
Think about it - how immersive is pressing a mouse button on a FPS to fire a gun? Accurate? Absolutely, but nothing like real life. At least on console FPS, my hand is kinda in the shape of holding a gun and ...
I love me some RTS, and once you get the controls down - on C&C and BFME2, it works great.
Hard to pic a winner...I know that's the "safe" response, but it how I feel.
MS show made me SO glad I have a 360 for this fall's lineup.
Sony's show made me desperately want a PS3 - it will be mine - oh yes, it will be mine.
Was this game at E3? If it was, I missed it.
I've played through it twice on LIVE co-op, and versus is amazing. It shows how cover needs to be done in games - much better than Gears cover system.
I have a 360, but the game is the same on the PS3, so I highly recommend it.
