Well, the people that are at these championships have been playing the same maze for 26 years. The last major update they had was a red bow and name change to ms. pacman.

People need to take this news in context.

Just like to point out that sony had it's portable player ass handed to them by the ipod. A first time stab at the market made by a company that was not known at all for audio fidelity or even great engineering feats of any sort really.

Sony is a strong hardware company but don't underestimate nintendo or microsoft. Nintendo can make anything profitable and Microsoft will operate at a loss for as long as it takes in order to achieve market dominance. Both are legitimate, un...

A lot of people here are talking price cut for the ps3 based on some cost trimming on Blu-Ray and the upcoming 65nm silicon. I do agree that the ps3 needs the price cut to help it on the consumer side however on the business side Sony's Gaming division reported approx. US $2 billion operating loss this year. That number >includes< what must have been rather large profits generated by the ps2. People need to keep in mind that the ps3 has lost fistfuls of money for Sony. Money that So...

Actually, I think the reason the 360 gets better reviews on the multiplats is largely due to its' polished online features. Often the game is identical on both platforms but because of the online features, the 360 wins out. Sometimes the ps3 version doesn't have any online support at all. The achievement system is a differentiator also. The reviewer would be negligent if he ignored these facts. Don't worry, as the ps3 online gets on it's feet this will even out.

As for all ...

Well tk, looks like it's your turn to be hit with your own ugly stick.

Apparently you have never heard of lossless compression! Now look at the list of HD-DVD CODECs... see Dolby TrueHD there? That's a lossless audio CODEC. See how it's in the >mandatory< category for HD-DVD and only in the >optional< category for Blu-Ray?
Here ya go, read up:
http://www.dolby.com/consum...

What the hell is a codex? It's a CODEC. It's an abbreviation for COmpressor/DECompressor. Man, who's the one calling others clueless?

The video CODEC support is the same on both but HD-DVD has more and better audio support. Also, HD-DVD uses Tomson's Film Grain Technology. HD-DVD is the better format of the two but I fully believe that dual-format players will become the standard.

Well it did get 9/9/9/9 and a rare platinum award from famitsu. I would have thought this would have bought a little mindshare in japan...

How many fanboy orgasms did you have while writing that?

This makes me feel ashamed to be a gamer. Have you ever hear of the term objectivity? PS3 has some good games coming but so do the 360 and Wii. You need to take of the blinders there 'Sea Biscuit'.

This list makes me very sad for Sony... it's more like >less< than 30 games coming. I don't include downloadables as full game releases, oblivion is already out and home isn't a game. That leaves 28 releases on the ps3 in the NEXT YEAR and only TEN of them are exclusive and that's assuming nothing gets delayed. Sad.
Oh well, I don't plan to purchase one until it's under $300 anyway...

Maybe, but 3 years from now, Haze will still be pushing the ps3 to it's limit whereas crysis will run fine on the pc you let you 9 year old use as a play-toy.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right... JRPGs are definitely huge in japan but at the same time, the ps3 and wii don't really have any either so it's still kinda puzzling... I guess everyone is holding out with their ps2 until more compelling titles come...

Okay, LO - Lost Odyssey, CO - Cry On, PSU - Phantasy Star Universe
IU - Infinite Undiscovery... GM?

So I wonder if the Japanese will ever start to warm up to the 360... I searched around the net for famitsu reviews (hard to find, does someone have a good link for all their scores on all platforms?):

10/9/9/9 Blue Dragon
10/9/9/9 Gears of War
10/9/9/9 Dead or Alive 4
10/9/9/8 Trusty Bell
10/9/9/8 Pro Baseball Spirits 3
10/9/8/8 Winning Eleven 10
9/9/9/9 Forza Motorsport 2
9/9/9/9 Lost Planet
9/9/9/9 Tom Clancy's Rainb...

I have a custom home theatre installation business. Personally, I have an Optoma HD81 1080p Projector going up on a 120" Screen Innovations Screen With a NAD 7.1 receiver and PSB speakers. I have demo stand-alone units for both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray but am waiting until a fully featured dual format player comes out before I personally make a purchase.

It's true that HD-DVD also supports Mpeg2 but to date there has not been a single title to use it.

How do you define Superior/Inferior when talking about film?

Studio Support?

Blu-Ray has Sony's support; Sony owns Sony Pictures and Screen Gems and Sony has large stakes in MGM, Columbia and Tristar so those are solidly in the Blu-Ray camp.
Blu-ray also has Disney (Beuna Vista) and Fox but they are non-exclusive deals ie if it looks like it will be profitable enough, there is absolutely nothing stopping either company from publishing on HD-DVD.

I find that the guys that have 2000 downloaded albums are the ones that are most upset by the music industry crackdowns. It's really quite amazing how that is mirrored in the console world.

when the 65nm processor is being used, power requirements will go down so the power supply should shrink some. Maybe this will help.

vehicle damage is a complex thing to handle... The car manufacturers don't want all those potential customers to see how their cars would disintegrate in an actual crash and simply will not licence the cars to devs if they depict it. If you read the forza developer diaries you would see how it is a constant pull/push effort to do the damage modeling that they do in forza.

You also need to understand that licencing a car with damage modeling is more expensive. It can cost a...

You guys do realize that in the PC world they were using CDs to distribute games until recently... Just in the last year have they started universally adopting DVD and PC games are capable of running at higher resolutions and framerates than 1080p and generally look way better than console games but you don't ever hear devs complaining about DVD on that platform. Only in the console pissing match do you ever hear about this. This is ridiculous.

Seriously, if Bethesda can get...

Ah man, there's all kinds of them here today. Are you talking about the MSNBC owned Universal Studios moving to Blu-Ray? MS-nbc? I'm pretty sure that Universal is going to be exclusive for quite some time. Blu-Ray may have more studios but Universal is similar in size to Sony Pictures, MGM, Tristar and Columbia combined.

Keep in mind that Disney and Fox both have non-exclusive agreements with the Blu-Ray association. ie they can choose to support both formats at any time a...
