1. Compared to a $800+ Denon DVD Player. That's a player that is used only in uber home theatres for the people that are -=infatuated=- with the quality of playback.
2. A standalone player will almost always provide a better experience than 'jack of all trades' devices like consoles and honestly, of the people that own a 360, how many would you really believe also do not own a dvd player.
3. If you have a dvd player why wouldn't you save the 'wear and tear' on the 360? Let'...

It's even better than that! Sony started with 4M@launch, then went to 2M@launch and 4M@year end, then 1M@Launch and 2M@year end. It all ended with sony congratulating themselves for meeting the goal of shipping 1M@year end, a goal they never publicly announced. Ever!
As far as MS lowering from 13-15M to 12M, I would say this indicates that they have decided to postpone a price cut until spring due to underwhelming demand for the PS3 and are factoring that decision into their sale...

While I think the ultimate winner will be the dual format players (like LG's), I always like to read the comparisons. Btw, I believe that HD-DVD is superior also.
I think that nintendo now has a solid grip in japan and both 360 and ps3 will be fighting for market... both will sell well at the right price with the right content however. Especially as hidef TVs begin to really take hold over time....
It's interesting. I've read many 360 fanboy comments over the months and I believe that the consensus of those comments is the beleif that MGS4 will eventually be published on the 360 which to me says 'I like this game and desire it on the system I own'. That's a far way off from calling the game crap!

Didn't Sony just recently issue a press release saying they shipped 1M units in Japan? I just went through the sales data and about 550k units have sold as of Jan 14th. So, in Japan, there are 450,000 consoles sitting on store shelves.

Not true, in the past the 360 has sunk to much lower weekly sales than this in Japan. It dropped under 2000/week many times last year... It's actually starting to slowly build up steam, still sadly low though.

Sony did have great products and name but that was back in the early 90s. Since then their manufacturing techniques have become dated and are handicapped and cheapened by 'cost saving' techniques. You only have to look as far as the battery incident to see it. That wasn't an accident, that is the result of many cycles of 'cost reduction' on their product.

I can see why anybody would be wary of a monopoly but on the other hand, I see my Home Theatre, Desktop PC and Laptop, Xbox360, PDA, Cell Phone, Digital Audio/Video Player and most likely future Portable Game Platform all networked together (with Family, Friends and Coworkers also) through services like Live, Hotmail, Media Center, MSN, Digital Content (Music, TV, Movies, Games, etc) plus unannouced plans and the tech head in me starts to spin!

Well, just for sh!ts and giggles, I just spent the morning driving around my area looking for PS3s. I live in Canada so attitudes may be different up here vs. the states... within a half hour drive of my home there are 3 walmarts, 2 zellers, 3 futureshops, 2 best buys, 2 ebgames and 2 toys'r'us. They all had PS3s in stock and a best buy had the least number in stock @ 4 consoles in stock. I found a total of 83 PS3 consoles across all of those stores. I did not ask any staff anywhere if t...
When a console has been purchased and shipped to a retailer, it is classified as sold. Depending on how the market is, the difference between the sold number and the number actually bought by consumers is relatively inconsequential since retailers work very closely to the 'just-in-time' concept.

This really shows what Sony is doing wrong as a whole. If you look at MS when asked about the Wii, they say they like the innovation in the Wii and respect it and they earn a little positive gamer karma in the process. Sony just blurts out that the Wii is an impulse buy and walks away.
