The car companies obviously allow it since it's already been done... forza is an obvious example. It just costs more to licence the car if you want to bang it up and even then, there are many limitations and the dev can't really damage it too much. Also, the damage system eats into the systems resources. ie a game without a damage system will look better than a game with damage due to the system resources used in the damage system being available to it. It's all about trade-offs. Will th...

Blu-Ray Exclusive studio titles:

HD-DVD Exclusive Studio Titles:

Yes, but HD-DVD has mandatory support of Dolby TrueHD and at a higher bitrate than the optional support offered by Blu-Ray. both only support the dts lossless codec as an option. Seriously, the only time you actually need the full 50 Gb offered by blu-ray is when you are delivering an mpeg2+uncompressed pcm bitstream. Otherwise, a single layer bd or dual layer HD-DVD is more than enough space. Besides, a single layer BD is cheaper to make which means cheaper prices for the consumer which i...

It's true that Blu-ray has 50gb of space and a 54mbps transfer rate but these are required to support an mpeg2+pcm bitstream. A bd player doesn't have the processing power to decode an mpeg4 based 54mbit stream nor does it need to with the average 2 hour movie only taking up about 13-15 GB when using VC-1 or H.264 codecs.

Why publish a more expensive to manufacture 2 layer mpeg 2 based BD when you can master VC-1 or H2.64 and get the same quality on a cheaper single layer BD (w...

Actually, both formats have VC-1 and H.264 (AVC) codecs available to them and both of those codecs are Mpeg4 variants.

To DJ above(12.1), 30 gb is enough space for a little over 4 hours of 1080p video encoded in either VC-1 or H.264. 50 gb is required if you are going to achieve the same quality using mpeg 2. If a publisher decides to use VC-1 or H.264 then they can easily fit the movie onto a single layer BD which is cheaper to manufacture. If they use Mpeg2 then they need ...

I find it >>INTENSLY<< ironic that all the people that are saying that Blu-ray has won because there is a greater install base, larger sales and more titles are the >VERY SAME< people that are saying that the console wars are only just beginning regardless of the fact that the 360 has a greater install base, larger sales and more titles.

I happen to agree that the console wars are only just starting and >EVEN IF< the tables completely swapped and we ende...

Good point Sidar... Nintendo is following a different pricing model this generation so who knows for them.

I can't think of a single example of a console's price ever going below 40% of it's original price... This means that at the end of it's life cycle you can expect the Wii to be $100 or more, the 360 premium to be $160 or more, and the PS3 to be $240 or more and we are talking 4 years down the road...

I also think all the talk of price cuts have people sitting on their money until they see what comes out of E3... price cuts will definitely spur some sales.

Definitely one of the games I am looking forward to!

6793d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Wow, that's lower than I thought... I expected the core to only go as low as $225. I revise my price cut predictions to:
core - $199.99
Premium - $279.99
Elite - $329.99
20GB HDD - $79.99
120GB HDD - $149.99
HD-DVD add-on - $149.99
And I am going to double down and say E3 announcement. Of course, I could easily be completely out to lunch!

Firewire, I have to somewhat disagree with you. Sony is definitely featuring new tech in the Cell processor but Microsoft is also featuring new tech in the Xenos GPU.

I agree with the article that the Cell processor will outperform the Xenon processor but the Xenos GPU out-performs the RSX GPU.

ATI's Xenos evolved upwards into the R600 core which still hasn't hit the streets whereas the RSX is based on the nVidia G70 architecture which has been available for...

Man, a lot of people here are arguing about a title here or a title there. BY FAR this is the most accurate and comprehensive list that I have seen anywhere. He seems to have done his homework and he seems to check out leads or corrections that people send him. If you think there is an error then email him and if you don't come across as a raging lunatic fanboy I am sure he will look into it.

Watch the end of the teaser, there are logos for both playstation and xbox. The last one was multiplat over all three manufacturers, why would you think this one would be different?

This is because they have already announced 100 titles for 2007. All they are saying is that they don't plan to announce more than 100 titles this year.
http://hddvd.highdefdigest....

Keep this in mind before you start talking nails: From now until end of year there are currently 49 titles announced for Blu-Ray and 19 of those will also be released on HD-DVD by Warner and Paramount.
