I could see Asus being of some help if they made a mobo with a built in HDCP compliant video card... of course that would be just as useful to HD-DVD as it would be to Blu-Ray...
Actually, I love the HD format war posts. It has very little to do with gaming. Sony backs Blu-Ray and MS backs HD-DVD blah blah blah nothing to do with games.
I love home theatre stuff though so I think the posts are great.
Toshiba response:

Toshiba, HP, NEC, Sanyo off the top of my head... Asus is a huge mobo manufacturer but when it comes to drives, Plextor, LG and Lite On are the players. Plextor hasn't aligned either way, LG is making dual-format drives and Lite On supports HD-DVD...
Jareth, couldn't agree with you more. I also have both HD-DVD and Blu-ray stand-alone players, I also think that the HD-DVD format is the better of the two for delivering movies and I also believe that dual format players are the future.
I paid over $1k for my first DVD player out of the gates way back in the nineties for all the people grumbling about the cost. At the time it was one of the low end models and I'll remind everyone that $1k in the nineties is a lot more than $...
"Sales for both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs have been on a declining trend since December"
Actually, I'm looking at the chart and it looks to me like the HD-DVD sales are slowly increasing (after the December peak).
Lair and Heavenly Sword have been a part of every Keynote Sony has given since E3 2005. How much more endorsement do you need than that?
And at 80% average, Heavenly Sword certainly isn't a bad game (though perhaps didn't reach it's own bar) but at 57% Average Lair is one of the worst games on PS3.
Oblivion isn't exclusive but it is an excellent western RPG nonetheless... and it's the highest rated game on the ps3 to boot! (based on metacritic) Hmmm... I think Enchanted Arms is the only other RPG the PS3 has? Untold Legends is RPG-ish I guess?
What I don't get (and I am talking about all games not just this one) is the inconsistency of the reviews. Here we have 3 reviewers from the same publication so they should all be judging the game by the same criteria yet there is a spread of 20% in their reviews and there have been many like this from EGM on all platforms.
There is a big difference between a game that scores 60% and one that scores 80%. I mean at 80% I would strongly consider the game but at 60% I would li...
Using the game to try and kill some of the Halo buzz is a good idea unless it has some issues. In that case it would be a monumental disaster. Those issues would be magnified due to the Halo release and would generate a lot of negative buzz before Christmas.
It's a dice roll.
When I read his interview, I heard him talk about TGS, then I heard him talk about FF and MGS and then he talked about how the industry is changing now that they have the install base.
Hey, maybe I'm reading into it a bit but why would he even talk about them if he knew they could only be played on another platform unless...
This 'article' seems suspicous to me for a number of reasons...
1. An interview with 'Valve'? So, he interviewed a company? Usually you interview XXX XXXX, developer from Valve, YYY YYYY, VP of Whatever from Valve or ZZZ ZZZZ, Art Director from Valve etc etc. You don't just interview 'Valve'.
2. Who, with an education beyond grade 6, uses terminology like that let alone a world class developer? "non realistic world tactics"? "raw serious gam...
hmm...
Well he was asked yesterday about the 360 rumour and this was his reply:
"right now we’re only making it for PS3. We don’t have a plan for Xbox 360 for now"
http://www.next-gen.biz/ind...
That is a VERY open ended answer and that is why the rumour persists. Levine's answer was clear, direct and to the point leaving no room fo...
Why don't you read the article for once? Levine addresses both the widescreen issue and the copyright issue competently.
What an embarrassment you are to the PS3 community.
What? He doesn't like dragon quest either? Maybe they should have gotten someone who likes jrpgs to review it.
Since the idea of WB going blu-ray seems to be the speculation of 'mk_red' and is not mentioned at all in the article then I am going to speculate that WB is going HD-DVD exclusive.
Yes, I know that there isn't a shred of evidence to support it but since contributors can completely make things up (WB going blu?)then I feel it's okay for me too.
Man, this site needs to clean up it's act.
I agree also.
I think this is a problem for both 360 and PS3. Seems pretty much all the casual games are going to Wii and all the hardcore games are going 360/PS3. It's up to the 1st party to bring casuals to the market to attract that type of gamer. Only then do I think more of those types of games will come over from 3rd party.
Wow, so many people seem perfectly happy to throw sony's money away for install base. Sony is a business, they are trying to make a profit and they have shareholders to contend with. The 80Gb model will more than likely drop to the $500 price point after the 60Gb model runs out and that seems an appropriate price point at this time for Sony.
Sure, at $500 the sku is still priced out of a lot of peoples budgets but there are still many that can afford it and the ps3 will be ar...
