Do you own a DVD+R burner and a DVD-R burner or do you own a DVD+/-R burner?

I'm sure that in the past and present you have enjoyed the use of devices like cassette recorders, VCRs, DVD recorders, PVRs, cd burners, dvd burners, video and or audio capture cards (pc), mp3 players, camcorders, etc., etc. ALL of those devices are able to exist under DIRECT protection from the fair use laws you are so foolishly abolishing.

Personally, I own a little over 700 DVDs and over 500 CDs that >I have purchased< and copies of ALL of them reside on my home medi...

I completely agree Cuco and to be honest I am completely surprised to see anything with bd+ released before the holidays. I have always thought that bd+, bdjava, profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 have been potential ticking time bombs for the BDA. I would seriously doubt seeing java/1.1/2.0 before the holidays due to the highly sensitive nature of public perception. Early adopters are also VERY vocal when it comes to these types of issues as seen on the AVS Forums regarding issues with both form...

Hey Vickers, if you haven't seen Hot Fuzz yet you should check it out. It seems to be right along your comedy tastes....

The 360 and Windows are both Microsoft's platforms. If Mario appears on Wii and DS does that mean it's not exclusive either?! And as far as Sony not 'playing dirty' (aka 'practicing smart business'), how's Haze?. You see. That's smart business.

I believe Metal Gear and Final Fantasy started on the Nintendo before Sony 'negotiated' exclusivity and that was pivotal. Come on people, this practice is common not just in the console business but in ALL business.

Ever heard the saying "It's a fish eat fish world"? It's been around much longer than the console business, think about it.

Is securing Bioshock shady business or smart business? Judging by the reaction of the Sony community in these comm...

Really dj?!
Ever heard of 'revenue sharing'?
http://www.videobusiness.co...

And Hastings isn't the first to get 'revenue sharing'
http://www.videobusiness.co...

Even Blockbuster is in on the 'revenue sharing'

nasim and themart are the two biggest fanboys on this site. both are known for stretching the truth and twisting fact for their own fanboy crusades so you can expect to see them mentioned by name often. nasim, in particular, is famous for fabricating ridiculous statistics.

Just my $0.02.

If the cell is so much more powerful than the 8800 nVidia GPU then I wonder why Sony decided to drop a secondary cell processor in favour of a 7800 flavour nVidia GPU?

Could the cell's architecture allow it to be excellent in some areas yet abysmal in others?

I agree 100%. 18 months from now dual-format players will likely be $200 or less. The war will officially be meaningless.

I think that it's going to be a hard call for the GOTY awards this year. Bioshock, Halo 3 and Mass Effect will all be up against each other.

Oblivion has occasional stutters and pop-ins on the ps3 yet it's by far the highest rated game available on the ps3 platform (based on metacritic). Gameplay trumps graphics. Always.

It'll likely be a less costly unit from a chinese manufacturer instead of the Toshiba unit.

WHA?! SacTown, that is the most ridiculous argument I have ever read. Okay, let me ask you this then, on the ps3 what happens when you damage or loose the one and only disc? Can you play it?!

Jesus.

The only thing that having 4 discs proves is that you DON'T need blu-ray for gaming even if the game is over 30 gigs.

Lightning, I think what they are trying to say is that since the population of Canada (30 million) is 1/10th the population of the US (300 million), it stands to reason that the sales in canada are 1/10th the sales in the US. Per capita, the sales rates are essentially identical in Canada ie 270k/10 = 27k. Sales in Canada -> 26.7k

I agree, and the specs for the cell/xenon cpus and rsx/xenos gpus were all finalized summer 2005. The ps3 came to the party a year late because Blu-ray wasn't complete (and still isn't for that matter) not because the cpu/gpu was still in development. If sony had used DVD instead of blu-ray, they could have launched Nov05 just like the 360 and would probably have a sizable lead by now too. Instead, blu-ray was pushed onto the gaming community and the ps3 is trailing a good deal. Heck, I w...

This argument that gaming needs the larger disc to be Hidef is complete and utter bollox.

1. Warhawk is one of the best games on the ps3 (it makes the top ten on metacritic) yet it is only 800Mb? That's small enough to fit on a >CD<! Does that mean it has PS1 level graphics?! Or is it still Hidef?

2. Blue Dragon uses 3 DVDs. That's about 25Gb (8.5Gb x 3). Is this proof that Blu-ray is needed? No, it is proof that Blu-ray isn't needed at all. It is ...
