Why not just play it on your current PC rig at 30FPS and at consoles (or a little higher) settings? How OLD is your PC? Crysis 2 has lower requirements than Crysis 1.

@Pandamobile

Thank goodness. I rather have no AA at 1080P than have that AA method.

@Letros

You know I have tried to read up on why DX10 and DX11 can do MSAA with deferred rendering but I come up with very little. You have any thing you can point me to? I thought it was only certain scenarios. But it makes sense why Dead Space and GTA have no AA, they both do deferred but the dev never developed the engine past DX9 on PC...

Good Point Letros

Also, I wonder if this Crysis 2 PC MP demo will have DX10/11 available....

Very true, but I have to admit, Crysis 2 and BF3 gives me a little bit of hope for devs to take real advantage of the hardware on PC. Even Deus Ex is supposed to be using many DX11 features, we will see how well though.

What is also cool for us 5870 owners (5000 or 6000 owners as well) is using MLAA for Crysis 2. MSAA does not work with deferred rendering and Crysis does so for the lighting (maybe more? I don't know). So Cryteks custom AA (Which I don't like if it's the same as the 360's which is temporal and causes ghosting) can hopefully be turned off and we just use MLAA since we can't get MSAA.

Perhaps of interest to other PC gamers and Nvidia users (or AMD/ATI too): ...

What does framerate have to do with hit detection? High frames just makes it easier to aim since you eye/brain as more images per second to judge movement and so on.

I think the issue on 360 was beta testing the netcode:

Of course they want people on steam. However, I still think that what I wrote is also a very valid reason for them doing this as well.

Not only that, but I wish gaming SERVICES where under one, or at least interoperable. Similar to Portal 2 with PS3 and PC, but better than that.

I hate having friends on my PC, on my xbox, and on my PS3 and we can't all play together.

I don't think that analogy really works well. I am not saying I want activision to be only a software making either, of course.

There is steamworks, which is something that games can have integrated into them like steam friends, cloud save game, multiplayer server listing and/or matchmaking and more:

Steam is generally used as a term for the service on PC which lets you download/purchase games and also use the features of steamworks that games support.

@Arksine

Yea, like I said, you can't say MLAA= *xMSAA. It just doesn't work.

Would MSAA be better at 720P (lower resolutions) because it is actually grabbing extra samples that aren't present in the untouched 720P image? And I mean in the case of something like the fence or anything that has VERY little pixel data in the original image. I agree that MLAA would probably do better with general edges than 4xMSAA at lower resolutions (building silhoue...

I like what Valve is trying to do here. What they are trying to say is that if you buy a game, you should be able to play it where ever (xbox, ps3, PC, Mac). You own the game period, not just a certain "version" of the game. Of course, you can't do that with xbox because MS is a competitor to steam on PC (GFWL) while Sony has no issue because they have no service on the PC at all that competes with Steam. Of course, you don't see the PC version of Portal letting you have a c...

I think Steamworks* will be integrated into the games menu, not the XMB.

Hilarious game too. I miss games like that. I love multiplayer too, alot. But man, FPS single player has taken a serious dive...

@Megaton

Unlike most people on this site would say, MLAA is around 4xMSAA quality (not 16x or whatever), it really varies. Depends on what edges are being "improved". One can't really put a sample number on it like MSAA. It's not that amazing.

Chain link fences and dense, small foilage does not look nearly as good. MSAA wins hands down. MLAA is still better than none though.

He needs to go play Deus Ex 1 or No One Live Forever 1 & 2 or the Thief series or the Half-life series. These are top notch games with long single-player with EXCELLENT stories and execution.

And Splinter Cell Chaos Theory had an excellent single-player. Hope he doesn't think that was too long though...

It's great to have this for games that don't support MSAA, like GTA4 or Crysis 2 (Unless Crysis 2 has some other method).

Youtube HD isn't that shabby these days. And this was uploaded very cleanly. I couldn't see any artifacts unless I paused the video, and even then, hard to spot. Just sayin.
