Anything can be 1080P, you just have to sacrifice from other parts of the rendering. Lower texture resolutions, less polygons, etc.
Even when PS4/xbox 720 comes out, If they run a game at 1080P, they could still run the same game at 720P but with better effects and textures and so on. It will be interesting how devs handle it. 1080P and a complex world/graphics? or 720P and a much more complex world? Its the same dilemma devs have now. They rather have the sweet spot of resol...
I doubt it will be more than 1080P (unless it has multi video out, multi TV). The TV and home movie standard of HDTV (720P and 1080p/i) just settled in. You aren't going to have an upgrade for quite a while. We JUST moved TV to the "HD era". The SD era last for decades.
@R2D2
Disc space does NOT affect real time graphics resolution! Only VIDEOS, IE movies!!!
The GPU and RAM affects resolution ability when rendering.
Holy hell Batman, Fanboys, PLEASE educate yourself. A DVD can do a 1080P movie, but that shit would only be like 30 min long because you would run outta space. Please educate yourselves. The PS3/Bluray has been out for 5 YEARS.
If you were in a computer class, you would still be ...
Plenty of people have given an explanation. Some of us aren't "pretending". Each time a cool addition to an engine is added, many don't like having to explain to people who say things like "this is not impressive at all, nothing wowed me, Killzone 2 is an engine that wows".
No one wants to explain to fanboys, be it PS3 or xbox (or a PC fanboy who maybe bought an expensive PC I suppose).
@wesley-dw
Almost all games have dynamic lights. I think you are talking about deferred lighting, where you can have ALOT more dynamic lights.
Also, KZ2 had no SSAO and from the beta I just played of KZ3, no SSAO still, just nicely pre-baked AO.
@yewles1
There is no SSAO, at least not in the beta I just played all last night. It's baked in.
Also odd, there was a side screen blur in killzone 2 to make it look like it was doing DOF, but now its completely gone. And also, unless it is because it was beta, textures on enemies and weapons were great, but some walls and cabinets and railings and floors (it was 50/50) had the lowest resolution textures I have ever seen.
@Masterchef2007
You seem to be hooked on the fact that they still call their engine "3.0". When they say 4.0 will that convince you? Some developers call their updates to their engines a new version (3.0->4.0) while other developers just keep updating a version and won't change the version till the new consoles come out. UE4.0 might be the version of the engine that is reserved for those new consoles.
You are hung up on a version number and n...
There is no online coop!?!?!?!?!?
Aw man. You can have 32 player multiplayer but not even 2 player online ccop? dang that sucks. So much for my cousin in AZ playing it with me.
And why aren't they using all the screen? Stack horizontally and make it widescreen. The pop-in is horrible too. shit is popping in a mere 10-15 feet away. I almost wish they had done no splitscreen coop and focused on online coop...
Should have done split screen l...
This is just games sold on steam. Doesn't account for ANY games bought at a store or any other service similar to steam, such as D2D and GOG.
Geeze so many disagrees. How do you disagree when he is clearly saying he wasn't impressed? Are you saying "I disagree, I think you WERE impressed!" It's not like he was saying the graphics suck or something. This community sucks... :(
When you say you don't like the controls. Do you means button arrangement, sensitivity or does it lag like the first game?
And when I say lag, I don't mean the "weight" of the animation and such, I mean the delay of turn or even pulling the trigger (which should be instant). The lag in KZ2 controls is what killed it for me.
I'll see once I am off work and try the beta. I was just REALLY hoping the laggy controls are gone. I'm hoping ...
@ps3360games
LOL THE TEXTURES ARE STREAMING FROM THE DISC, NOT THE GPU?!?!? The GPU is a GRAPHICS PROCESSING UNIT, IT DOES'T hold texture data! It processes it!
OMFG 720P has NOTHING to do with textures! You are an IDIOT. You have no clue what you are saying. Textures vary from 64x64 and up to (maybe higher) than 4096x4096. You are worse than a youtube comment section...
You have no idea what you are talking about, period. You buy a game....
@Marked
Taking the load off the RSX (The RSX is slower than the xbox GPU). The SPU's in the Cell are very similar to GPU "cores". For example, instead of the GPU doing depth of field and motion blur in UC2, they have the Cell's SPU's do it. The Cell's SPU's are better for graphics, not so much normal CPU stuff. There are some things it also does, such as decompressing audio, it does that very well.
@DigitalRaptor
I don't think you get it. A game on PS3 has 512MB of ram. Bluray is ~50,000mb. So when you play, you can ONLY DISPLAY 512MB of textures (obviously much less than that since RAM is used for sound files, framebuffer, level geometry, model geometry, other forms of buffers like G buffers for deferred rendering, anti-aliasing, etc).
The ONLY thing bluray can provide is MORE levels with DIFFERENT textures. The limit of the resolution of the textu...
@chak_
"make a good game..."
Actually, you said made a good game, which means you are discussing quality.
When I was in a room with good pings, the hit detection was spot on. And that was even beta.
@Laika
You don't think? Have you played them? Everything I listed, I have played/own. I own KZ2 as well. Plus, how does a game attach a camera to a player model head better than another?
Oh and Another game that seems to do it well is Brink.

@Cupid_Viper_3
Yea, that video was crap, that was a 15 second search on youtube. I just wanted to prove the point about the cam-attached-to-head was all. I also mention it was a modded/custom map of some sort, hence the glitch. I have my own video for crysis which I didn't want to peddle. I think it shows how the gun is close to the face when ADS and bobs and even has lean that shows the gun moving around (and the reticule) quite a lot.

Crysis 1 and 2, Bad company 1 and 2, Operation flashpoint 1, Chronicles of Riddick EFBB and AODA.
All these, similar to KZ 2 and 3, have the camera literally attached to the player models head (Crysis 1 and 2 give you the option of making it more old school ala COD, Halo and so on or attaching to the character model). That's all I can remember for now.
And I agree, I LOVE camera attached to the head of the player model, much more immersive, even if it mak...

Come on, stop throwing around marketing terms. The RSX is the most powerful part of the PS3 that does graphics, "teh cellz" SPUs also help with graphics which assist the RSX and helps push it a little further.
Also, MAG and resistance may have a shit load of players, but there is not near the level of destruction of the game world (which is additional data needing to be sent over the net). Also the graphics in those 2 game's are not ...
