I was thinking about the whole Mark Twain thing as I read this article too.

Ridiculous article. I guess all these games with huge, buff, stone-cold killer men isn't sexist or isn't telling us males how to act...

People are overly sensitive.

No amount of focus on consoles will make up for the fact they only have 512MB of RAM while PCs Have 4-12GB of RAM. You just CANNOT have that big of maps on console without making the console version of the game look like crap. They want the consoles to look great, not Something like MAG (or maybe worse due to destruction taking more memory).

What does more responsive analog sticks mean? The sticks are laggy on 360 or something? lol. Maybe you are trying to say that DS3 has less resistance that the xbox sticks.

My issue with the DS3 are 3 main things

1. Triggers on convex (Wtf?)
2. Analog sticks are convex (Again, wtf?)
3. Too small for adult hands. My pinky and ring finger have nearly nothing to hold on to. My pinky wraps around the bottom of the controller and I touch my palms, w...

@Vojkan

You have to be kidding me about the xbox controller feeling like a kids controller. The DS3 is much smaller, your pinky, ring and even middle finger have practically nothing to grasp on to because it is so small. I even bought a 360ish controller for PS3, but unfortunately, Sony's support for non PS3 controllers sucks. They all have artificially deadzones. I plugged it into my PC, no deadzone. Highly irritating. I hope a firmware update fixes it sometime.

Lol third person requires more power? The funny thing is first person (especially game that have full body awareness) take MORE memory since when in first person you need very high res textures for your body since the camera is ALWAYS so close to your body parts while third person is far away. Same goes for poly counts.

Crysis and KZ3 have full body awareness, same with Halo 3 and Reach. You HAVE to keep rendering the body, how else does the game know how to cast your shadow ...

There are lots of "linear" being thrown around here.

Linear as in ability to explore?

Linear in the sense that you can't back track?

Linear in the sense of the story us unaffected by what you do?

Linear in terms of 1 world that streams or multiple levels that can only be progressed from A to B to C?

You have to clarify your "linear" talk, lol.

I think people only tried to say, at least myself, that Killzone 2/3 could push the graphics higher when a game is more linear, in the sense that you cant do more than take the second floor or a different hallway.

While compared to other games like Crysis 1 and Halo Reach and so on (which are still linear compared to GTA or Red Dead) you could (Crysis 1) take a boat and drive through a huge COVE or take the ocean front on boat, OR take a hummer and drive the path to the next ...

So where are these dx11 shots you are comparing?

I had a feeling Reach had it because I noticed that EACH needle coming out of the needler casts its on light on the ground, crazy looking.

Funny thing is one of the first games to have deferred rendering was crackdown 1 for all the city lighting they needed.

"The night-time view of the cityscape at the end of the video exercises the full might of Crackdown's deferred rendering engine (similar techniques are found in GTAIV and Killzone 2, to name but two). In this scene, the engine is processing over 3,000 light sources"

Why would thinking its growing make you an elitist? You sound like such a faboy.

So are you saying it is perfectly even? With Facebook and other casual gaming on a rise on PC, it is definitely growing for sure. The question is if "hard core" gaming is growing or shrinking. By the way Steam is going and developers going back and giving PC more attention now, like Dice is doing and what EA claims they will be doing, it looks like PC "hardcore" is growing as ...

I don't get this chart. Does this mean PS3 gamers buy games that are collectors editions and so on (more than 60 bucks) more than 360 users? Or Sony does not discount new games as fast as MS does?

360 sold more new games at retail but made less money. With 60 bucks being standard, that is an interesting stat.

According to the stats, the average PS3 game is sold for $49.61 while the average 360 game is sold for $48.28. Goes to show how many people buy game...

Again, no screenshot from you.

That is the same tech slide you showed before. It shows the engine does DOF, yup. I said that. I am saying they don't always use it, they only use it in cutscenes, not gameplay. Again, you think a tech slide showing what an engine does shows that the game always uses all effects at all time. That is horrible logic.

BF3 is already PAST KZ3. It has motion blur both camera and object, HDR (which KZ3 completely lacks), and much ...

Look at that cross-platform love, specially if you are talking BF3 on PC. This is a gamer guys. Quit trying to act like your platform is perfect and the rest suck.

Play awesome games!!!!

Why cant you admit KZ3 has no depth of field in gameplay, only in cutscene? I KNOW the engine has it, but the point is, its not in gameplay beacuse it is too much for realtime, less controlled scenario than cutscenes. Why can't you grasp that? Almost ALL games boost cutscene graphics but drop back down in gameplay!

All the slides you showed me was just engine tech. I know the tech is there. But what you can't understand is that just because an engi...

Wow,

So you are copy pasting a quote from yourself with claims of performance that make no sense. So the 6 SPU's available in the cell makes up for the RSX having nearly half the amount of pixel shaders...

KZ3 has no HDR (that is a big deal), no depth of field in gameplay besides your gun and still has lower texture resolution even compared to older games such as gears 2. Games such as GTA4 and Crackdown 1 and 2 also use differed lighting with hundreds of...

The Xbox CPU wont be handling the deferred rendering, the GPU will. The SPU's in the Cell are used to support the RSX by taking AWAY GPU tasks. The PPU in the cell will handle CPU tasks, like the 3 SMT PPUs in the xbox 360 will. The 360 GPU is much better at handling pixel shaders (48 pixel/vertex shader cores available compared to RSX's 24 pixel-only shader core). And just because you write code in a same language doesn't "equalize" the hardware in d...

@Ju

What is DX11 on PS3? All they said is when they wrote the DX11 shader (DX has had shaders since DX8) for the PC, they made it tile-based. Then they said it was a good "reference point for doing deferred work on SPU". All they are saying is the deferred lighting is done on SPU in a tile based manner like the DX11 shader they wrote.

Any game can have a tiled based shader. ALL that means is it breaks the screen up into tiles and handles each tile d...

I know what you are talking about. Thats the sun shafts. Fog only makes rendering easier if you STOP rendering. Fog that you can still see through and see the city saves no power. Fog that is so thick that they can stop rendering the city helps. The city is always visible, which gives no performance boost. It is always being rendered, which means there is the same amount of geometry rendered.
