Basically social engineering means tricking people into giving up login information. Not considered hacking in the least.

@wwm0nkey

Where is DICE saying this? They host the console version of BC2 on EA dedicated servers. Why even used dedicated servers if there is this artificial cap? How about some sources? Any source about consoles having an artificial cap for MP bandwidth.

Do you even understand what it is like on PC? Networks are ALL OVER. Some game have their OWN networks like battle.net. There is a net work for Company of heros (forgot what it is called), there is steam, xfire, gamespy....I mean, I can't even tell you. Some games dont even rely on networks, some games just have server lists and run forever as long as there are user, even if the dev and publisher die.

The ignorance of some people astounds me. It is so open and varied and ...

Open Network????? Not even....

Come on, what is happening absolutely is sad and it sucks these criminals did this...

BUT the PS3 and PSN are VERY closed platforms, behind MS and then behind Apple with Iphone.

Try securing bank networks or gov networks or company networks that have PCs (the MOST open platform) and all sorts of hardware variables.

Unfortunately, Sony's PSN security was not up to par even with the system bei...

@NothingToGainButLove

I never said I think Homebrew PS3 should be on PSN. They should not be. But I should be able to mess with my software on the PS3 freely and tell others how to (thought control/1984 anyone? READ A BOOK, this is more than console wars, this is about your rights to property) do homebrew without being sued.

Stealing/Piracy is a whole other issue. Companies need to combat piracy in a way BESIDES taking away consumer rights.

You do realize you are using the term "hackers" as if it is one single group.

I don't support hackers who steal people credit card information and pirate games.
I dont support hackers that modify a game to cheat.

I do support a hacker that unlocks a system so we can run custom software like a different browser or messaging services, etc (homebrew, NOT PIRACY). I bought the hardware and I can modify the software as I please. Consumer righ...

Seriously,

Stop blending "hackers" into one category. You make yourself look like a fool to anyone with a smidge of technology background.

@taylork37

Too many people think there is this one group of "hackers" when the world is much more complex and varied than this simplified version everyone/some-of-the-media has.

Network systems all over the world deal with computers (unlocked/jailbroken in the sense you can write what ever you want for it compared to consoles) and hackers from intruding. Banks, the government, Companies, etc.

The issue here is that PSN itself was not secured properly.

Too many non-tech savvy people here are blending "hacker" into this one huge category. They can't tell the difference between hardware being jailbroken and a network syste...

@wwm0nkey

Where the hell are you getting this info? I download 2 GB demos in 20 min, that is almost fully using my 15Mbps internet.

Player count? Player count has to do mostly to do with graphics. BF3 on PC will have maps that are LARGER, there will have to be MORE vehicles, and there will be almost 3x as many players needing to be rendered, causing explosions, moving vehicles, etc (Not to mention much better graphics).

There is NO bandwidth ...

"but have found greater secrets that unlock the PS3's power so more amazing things can be done"

Lol you sound like the PS3 is some artifact in Uncharted. Its 5 year old hardware. Anything that is done is only in the sense of what is being done with it's limits. People really need to play more than one platform.....

That is what I was wondering, because Valve was all for steamworks on Xbox, but steam competes with GFWL so Microsoft wouldn't let it happen.

You are mad at the wrong company.

HD is just a damn marketing term for going from 640x480 "SD" to either 1280x720 or 1920x1080 "HD". PC gamers aren't running around saying devs that made a 1080P game can't handle making a 1600P game. It is just a damn resolution. It is a setting for a game engine, not some crazy new render path like DX11 or anything close to that.

It was in PARTS of US and was intermittent. I remember it, I could log in and talk to people sometimes but not game. Sometimes not login at all. Sometimes I could game and do all things normally. it was 2 weeks of crappy connections, not a 100% complete outage.

Why can't any dev make a hack n slash game without fanboys saying they are copying god of war. Just because they are the same genre with combos and powers and weapons and what not does not make it copying.

Killzone and halo have more in common than god of war and dante's inferno.

This is a high resolution pack. meaning it uses textures BIGGER than the ones Crytek used. The consoles memory was maxed out. They can't magically support 200MB of textures per level...

I get it was a sort of joke. All I am saying is BF3 requires windows vista/7, which has a BIGGER install base than XP now. And all you need is a dx10 video card at MINIMUM. BF3 might require a powerful PC to run it as good as the videos you have seen, but you can still get a good medium range PC and play the game at much higher details than consoles.

You can get a decent DX11 card for 99 bucks after mail-in rebate:
