Compressing game data does NOT lower video quality. They are talking about lossless compression, like a zip or 7z file, not mp3 or mp4 which is a lossy compression.
The only thing this would cause is possibly longer load times depending on the compression type and amount, but no quality loss.
If there are videos, those might lose quality, but if everything is in engine, that type of compression is lossless....
@jaosobno
Where did they say lower quality? I didn't see the article.
If you are saying that due to compression, they are talking lossless compression, like a zip or 7z file, not like mp3 or mp4 which is lossy.
What it would mean, depending on the CPU and type of compression, you may or may not see longer load times on the xbox due to loading a leaving means reading the data, uncompressing, and then loading into RAM.
LOL just confirms how much of a PS3 fanboy you are jones.
Next you are going to tell me that in Killzone you fight the Helghast and in Halo you fight "big ass monsters" HHG-style.
Fanboys man...
It's great to see an interview actually going into the details of framerate and input lag and all these facts he goes over. Straight talk. As a tech lover, watching this is great, just GREAT. Not dumbed down shit or PR crap.
First of all, you would have to run Crysis 2 at a little below 720P on the PC and at the lowest graphical setting to get close to the graphics of the PS3 version.

"The lowest PC spec, “High”, is almost the same as the spec used on consoles, besides perplatform differences, such as different texture formats for render t...
Seriously? Just ignore facts then repeat a marketing phrase?
Fanboyism -_-
Unless that is sarcasm of course.
DX11 has been out for over a year. You can get a medium range DX11 card these days for CHEAP and runs CIRCLES around consoles, that's how far behind consoles are right now.
PS, the first DX11 video card came out early Fall 2009...
Killzone 2 was confirmed to be CG when it was at E3 though. It wasn't rendered on a PS3 or even real time, an outside studio made it.
This is literally running in real time and you have control of the camera somewhat, so you know it is ACTUALLY the real deal, unlike the KZ2 CG trailer.
Even a medium range computer can have a DX11 video card and run the game at something like 1050P at 30FPS and medium settings and look way better than console.
You only need a "great" computer if you are wanting the MAX DX11 settings, 1080P and 60FPS, that's how far behind consoles are unfortunately for them.
@theonlylolking
Uh, KZ3 runs at 640x716 when in 3D, Not 1280x720 (720P). Even worse is all alpha effects (explosions, smoke, etc) run at a measly 320x360 in 3D. Also the pop-in becomes absolutely horrible.

I haven't heard what res UC3 is in 3D, but don't expect 720P...
@CandyCaptain
No I didn't.
Burger = game
Big mac = specific game (agent)
Mcdonalds (like a dev) makes the big mac, but you don't need to buy anything else to "consume"/experience the game. Our mouth does it.
Thats why a burger/game analogy does NOT work in terms of "compatibility".
You don't BUY Mcdonalds like you do a PS3, the analogy fails hard.
@GodsHand
Did you even pay attention to analogies in English class?
How is a burger like a game? I don't need anything but my mouth to eat that burger, unlike a game that needs a certain system.
If anything, our mouth is a universal console that will eat/run any burger/game that is made by a burger-joint/developer.
Learn analogies....
Probably focusing on PC since BF has always been a PC exclusive until now (Bad Company is a separate game series). They are showing PC audience some love. I don't it is anything to do with worry of the console version.
This is a good point. People don't realize HOW FAR PCs are ahead. You can have BF3 not looking as awesome as PC, with lots of stuff missing, but still be one of the best looking console games. Watching BF3 on PC sometimes looks real, the tank scenes especially.
@waterboy
PS3 uses OpenGL ES 2.0, which is very similar to DX9.
PC has DX11 and OpenGL 4.1 at the moment, those two being similar as well.
Saying the PS3 uses DX9 isn't all that inaccurate in the sense that OpenGL 2.0 use shader model 3.0 just like DX9 and so on.
@Persistantthug
The SPU's on the Cell are being heavily used for the deferred lighting in BF3. While KZ2/3 had a peak of 300 realtime lights...
Halo 1 MP had health bar and shields, 0 regenerative health, only shields, no dual weilding, no vehicle jacking, vehicles took no damage and cannot be destroyed. Fall damage existed.
Halo 2, no more health bar (hidden and regenerative), just shield bar. vehicles took damage and can be destroyed, dual weilding and vehicle jacking. Some old weapons changed (rocker launcher gaining a lock feature, changed vehicle fights alot). Melee system now has a small "leap" and sl...
Are you a super hero at all? Jumping off buildings and landing 5 stories below and running then falling another 3-4 stories and stopping your fall by grabbing a metal ledge in the crook of your arm?
I just thought that was pretty over the top in terms of the characters abilities, anyone else?
I love the halo series, but I own a PS3 dude, don't troll.
Gamers should not be hoping competition goes away...
Not to mention DICE made Mirror's Edge....influencing themselves?
I doubt that many vehicles will be available when 12v12. 1 Jet, 2 heli (1 attack, 1 blackhawk) and an assortment of tanks, hummers, and atvs.
