I took the comment to mean something closer to: "Dead Space 3 needs to make us enough money to buy those solid gold toilets for our office bathrooms, or we're shutting the franchise down."

@Onilink

Perhaps he's simply talking about graphical fidelity, but his statement read: "the unreal engine has never produced GAMES to the quality of cryengine."

I couldn't really care any less about which engine produces the prettier graphics. They've both produced outstanding visuals in the past, in my honest opinion. But as far as quality GAMES are concerned, the Unreal Engine has some of the most lauded games in the industry under it&...

Do you know how many games have utilized the Unreal Engine? Even if you're not a fan of the engine itself, there have been so many stellar games that used it that it's nearly impossible to justify that statement.

All those are great looking games, but...I just want to see HL2 Episode 3/HL3. It's been so long...so long since I've kicked ass as a theoretical physicist...

Definitely seems to have a lot less of the "creepy" factor than the last two. Still looks like an excellent action game, but as with Max Payne 3, it's sad to see so many of these franchises losing a bit of their identity to more testosterone-driven action settings.

Though it's still very early to be making assumptions, I guess. This was obviously just a small portion of the game.

What a weird, arbitrary comparison.

That doesn't explain the CONSTANT hand-holding in the more recent titles. It was prevalent in TP, but in SS it was...dear god it was bad. SS felt like a tutorial for the entire game.

Items popped up with explanations every time the game was restarted (as if their purpose was so complicated that we forgot what to do with them), the path to objectives was always made stupidly clear, and Fi...dear Lord in heaven, Fi. She was, by far, the most obtrusive, obnoxious, and downri...

It was a very different debate back then. Those games were not a normal occurrence back in the 90's, so the mere fact that they even existed was very controversial.

The debate has shifted more toward the realization that a very, VERY large portion of our games these days hinge on the same ultraviolence that was so controversial in only one or two games way back when.

For the most part, it's not a condemnation of ultraviolence (everyone likes blowing s...

That's really cool art. I'm not gonna say that ALL Japanese boxart is this cool, but it seems like if there is going to be cool boxart, it's usually from Japan. SOMETIMES Europe...almost never North America, unfortunately.

Looks quite a bit more cartoony, in my opinion.

That's true. It's basically designed for their RMAH, which will make them oodles and oodles of money if they ever get it up and running.

The article may miss the point, but it doesn't make the "always-on" model any less tyrannical.

You don't have to be sold...it's free. AND the system requirements are ridiculously low. You'd have to have like a ten-year-old rig to be unable to play it.

Hah, this is pretty cool. Nice bit of nostalgia right there.

It's sad, too, because an honest-to-god cooperative Elder Scrolls game sounds really, really good. But no, there are just too many ways to squeeze money from consumers in an MMO format.

Hopefully a few very high-profile MMO failures will convince the industry as a whole that not every RPG that sells well needs to be converted into this format.

Given the utilitarian nature of our being, I think the fact that we aren't all just huge vaginas and penises walking around constantly mating with one another is enough evidence to suggest that we're not here just to reproduce...

Still, I would think that zombies would be more offended by this than living women.

Yeah, seriously. It's ridiculous.

At the very least, people should not be defending Sony's decision to spotlight a product that is clearly not going to appeal to gamers.

This is E3, dammit. This event was not created for four year old's that can't learn their ABC's without waving an imaginary wand around in the air.

Well, I suppose at this point there's nothing they could possibly do to persuade the hardcore "fans" that this game is anything other than a bastardization of the franchise.

I'm kind of past the point of caring though, because aside from the slightly annoying characterization for Dante, the game is looking incredibly good in my opinion.

Not writing it off. God, why does everything on the internet has to be so melodramatic? Just because a few people express some concerns about a game does not mean that they're "writing it off."

Especially when it seems like a perfectly reasonable concern after that trailer. I'm sure it's going to be a perfectly awesome ACTION game, in it's own right. But it seems like a lot of the horror has been replaced with straight, testosterone-fueled action.

Wait, wait. Just to be clear, I think the actual controller sounds very cool, but the system is compatible with like...a new "pro" controller, and pretty much every controller the Wii ever used as well.

I just meant that it seems like it's going to create a very schizophrenic environment for developers. It's giving them too many "outs," if you catch my meaning.
