In some ways we've got extreme entitlement issues, but never, EVER in the way that publishers like to suggest we do.
For instance, when it comes to artistic direction, I do think that in general gamers feel like they hold more influence than they ever should be allowed. It is our right to buy a game and like it, buy a game and dislike it or...not buy a game.
From a consumer rights perspective, though, publishers like to suggest that we want their games fo...
Man, such an insightful interview. I never would have imagined that an interview with a girl gamer would cover the topics of...girl gamers and feminism.
It's probably just going to push publishers to switch over to cloud-based gaming more quickly. There is no concept-of-ownership grey area when your product isn't actually a product, but rather a service.
As the article mentions, there's a very good chance the only thing a law like this would do would be to push publishers toward cloud-gaming more quickly, effectively shifting the industry toward a full-blown service so no "messy" ownership issues arise.
In other words, it's just going to speed up the inevitable. We're probably going to be paying the same prices for our games, only we won't own them in any way, shape or form.
Yeah, that's cool. It was a pretty fun demo, I thought, but it certainly wasn't scary and it certainly didn't make me feel like I was ever on the brink of death. It's an action franchise now, through and through.
It's just sad to see the franchise almost COMPLETELY forsaking it's survival horror roots, especially considering that the genre would basically be extinct right now if not for a handful of stellar indie outings released over the last few yea...
Yeah, and it's idiotic, ignorant parents and politicians and advocacy groups walking around with the stampers. It's why so many idiots STILL complain when a child "gets a hold" of an overtly violent, sexual, or otherwise mature game when in fact the industry hasn't been geared towards a younger demographic for close to 20 years.
...not that I actually think that's the case here. This whole thing had more to do with traffic-hungry journalists, I think...
I seriously don't know what the hell is going through the heads of Square-Enix's higher ups 99% of the time these days.
It doesn't look anything like Resident Evil anymore.
Why don't they just cut the crap and make a "GIANT BOOBS ONLINE" already?
I did almost the exact same thing. I played through a Nightmare campaign with one of my characters and just stopped. It's a far cry from the time I invested in my two lv.99's in Diablo 2.
I don't know what it is, but I just don't feel compelled to play this one like I did 2.
Well, technically you ARE just getting a re-release with a graphical upgrade, because you're required to pay extra for the additional content.
It's true. Everything is trying to be Uncharted 2 now...Max Payne, Dead Space, Tomb Raider, Lost Planet, Splinter Cell, just to name a few.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Uncharted is one of my favorite franchises and many of these games will almost certainly be absolutely great, but from the look of things it's at the cost of their respective identities.
And Tree Trunks. If Tree Trunks is not in this game, I shall be miffed. I shall be very miffed indeed.
Given the state of things right now, a small part of me almost WANTS an industry crash (and rebirth). There are a TON of publishers and developers in the industry right now that really need to reevaluate what made gaming such a unique, interesting medium in the first place.
Not that this article really holds any weight...I'm just saying.
Between this and the "Ocarina of Time is the Worst 3D Zelda Game" article, I can honestly say that I'm definitely not on the same page as Zelda Informer.
^That's kind of been my understanding of the whole situation as well.
Sure, there are a ton of scantily clad women in many, many games, but when you consider that male characters get the "beefcake" treatment 9 times out of 10 as well, you start to realize that it's never really been a gender thing. It's just lazy design. It's just developers mistaking aesthetic idealism for interesting characterization.
And it may just be old fashio...
^ because people are retarded.
Both sub-genres have contributed incredible games to the industry.
That's a relatively recent phenomenon, though. The Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR and even up through the original Dragon Age; all have good (Neverwinter Nights) to absolutely great (KOTOR) payoffs.
Like so many franchises these days, Bioware's recent games feel more like they're designed to get our money than to actually make us love them. Endings are rushed, environments are used and reused, nearly everything that can be monetized is monetiz...
This...could be absolutely terrible considering the game has been "complete" for nearly 15 years. Unless Overhaul is going to create brand-new content (which is contrary to what they have been telling us they're doing), this means that the game is going to be chopped up...
I say this with the utmost seriousness: I will not be buying this game if content is taken out of the original product and re-monetized.
"Issues"?
