It's fairly clear that he's parodying the arguments of the game's proponents.
Though as far as the article goes, I have to agree with you. Sterling routinely writes some of the most unfunny, ham-fisted satire this side of Michael Moore's Canadian Bacon.
She looks pretty attractive to me, but seriously, you guys? An interview with a random model/cosplayer automatically makes the hot list?
A very big portion of gamers have always been left-leaning, though what's confusing is that you're not forced to switch your affiliation just because you admit that your candidate lost a debate...
I feel like I answered all of your questions in my original comment. It may or may not affect the score. That's not the point.
Reviews are comprehensive, or at least as comprehensive as they possibly can be. I feel like if you failed to complete something as essential as the main story, you may well be in your rights to dislike what you played, but not within your rights to "review" the game and affix an overall score.
And just to be clear, I do...
....Bridgestone is probably the biggest tire company in the world.
It's just not right writing a review without finishing the game. It may or may not ultimately affect the score, but it's a matter of retrospection. There have been several games I've disliked playing through quite a bit, but looked back on more favorably because of a late-game mechanic or a satisfying ending or an incredible boss fight.
^ I half agree, because in reality I don't think physics have come all that far either. Most developers are STILL using the floaty, unrealistic ragdoll physics of the Havok engine, an engine that was first implemented about eight or nine years ago. I mean yeah, you got engines like Euphoria and PhysX which seem to be making incremental strides, but then...no one friggin uses them. They either use Havok or some proprietary engine that seems to mimic Havok.
It's really ...
Perhaps "waste of time" wasn't the best phrase to use. I guess after seeing so many people recreate so many things in Minecraft, it just seems like grinding gears at this point.
Given that there's no degree of creativity involved with "recreation," making something like this in Minecraft seems to be more of a demonstration of the amount of time a person is willing to invest in the game, and that just doesn't impress me anymore.
While I agree with you, I don't think a medium should be marginalized simply for it's tropes. The ratio of well-written movies to generic, mainstream blockbuster flicks is easily right on par with that of the video game industry.
If we're going to compare the narrative merits of each medium, then we have to take into account the ENTIRE medium. The indie scene, for example, has been a boon for creative storytelling in the industry these last few years. You get gam...
I keep trying to convince myself I should be impressed. I know this must have taken a ton of time and effort, but....it's just not that impressive to me. It just seems like such an egregious waste of time.
Hah, I knew I remembered a trailer for that. Bubble for helpfulness.
Interesting article, and I definitely agree. People need to get over the fact that narrative is more than just dialog-driven exposition.
I mean, Bioshock, for instance, delivers more narrative JUST THROUGH IT'S ENVIRONMENT than a standard novel probably could in it's entirety.
For some reason, up until just a couple of days ago I thought this game was a FPS...because, you know, like DivineAssault said: aliens and guns almost always = FPS nowadays.
This looks excellent, though. It's good to see Firaxis spreading it's wings a bit.
Obviously the death threats went way, way too far, but they deserve a great deal of the mess they got.
Usually I defend developer's choices when it comes to narrative and artistic vision, even if I don't particularly connect with it. But the ending can't even be defended under the pretense of artistic vision, because it's a fairly well-known fact that the publishers played a very big part in it's conception. I would have to say that that's something to...
It only looks vaguely like Bioshock. Bioshock was very Art Deco. Dishonored seems to be kind of a mixture of steampunk and cyberpunk.
And from a gameplay perspective, if it looks like anything, it looks like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic...and that's because it's from the same people.
Nude/sexy mods are a dime a dozen, and in fact there are a couple out there that I think are done better AND more tastefully. This one seems to force players to play out of context, and I never really subscribe to mods like that.
But damn, those environments are crazy good.
Did 11 people miss the "/s" or do 11 people think that this mod really should be banned?
What a puzzle the n4g "like/dislike" system is.
Shouldn't have to do any of that. Sony does not own actors. If they had, for instance, called the character in the commercial "Kevin Butler," then sure, that's obviously a breech of contract, but I'm relatively sure there is no legal grounds for owning someone's face.
The movie industry would be a WAR ZONE if that was the legal precedent.
I don't know why this game is getting so much attention. Everything about it was amateurish, even amongst it's indie alumni.
In fact, it sort of seems like they wanted to create a Slender game and churned this out as quickly as possible to sort of "stake-their-claim" to the meme.
Come on dude. Don't pull that "I took a class in college," crap. Don't you realize how ridiculously pretentious you sound at this point?
