What confuses me is that the term "MMO" has become ubiquitous with MMORPG's. When someone says "MMO" there's only one thing people think of: RPG's, usually in the styling of....yup, WoW.

As much as games like Guild Wars 2 and TERA have done for the genre, it doesn't really change what they are at heart. You still gather stat-boosting loot, conquer dungeons and compete in PvP...all in order to get more loot. I'll admit it's still fun...

A little untimely, hehe, but a great article all the same.

It really is one of the best games of the generation if you ask me. Not just because of the challenge, either (though it is the focal point). It's almost like playing through Lovecraft story set in medieval times.

"Whats with the diagrees..."

I wouldn't know. I honestly don't care if people disagree with me, but I rarely get any ACTUAL responses when I get "disagree bombed."

I am often very confused by it....

Still disappointing that they're moving further and further away from their horror roots, but taken as an action game it's looking pretty damn cool.

Before these reviews started dropping, literally the only thing I had heard about this game was that there would be bikinis for all the female characters...

But apparently the ACTUAL GAME is pretty good. Think I might give a rental or something.

Yeah, the whole Bishoujo line kinda does that. Other than the "loli" face, though, the thing looks really, really cool.

Not unless they're all planning on making crappy, derivative shooters, annual sports games or MMO's with insane budgets...

Though they don't have to be a "force" in gaming to make incredible games.

^ In many cases, that's like saying the same thing to a drug addict. I know several people with similar gaming habits, and it's NOT just a healthy predilection toward challenge.

In fact, it's not about "fun" in any conventional sense of the word at all. It's JUST a compulsion, like any other addiction.

Yeah....it's very telling that the console/PC indie scene is probably the most exciting area in the industry right now.

Not that there aren't ANY exciting games coming out, but in general mainstream portable/PC/console gaming is a generic, cash-grabbing mess right now.

Seriously? You just ruined your pants from seeing some cleavage?

I don't think I would ever want to go to parties with you...

^I know, that's such BS logic. As if Bayonetta 2 is going to be the ONLY reason to own a Wii U during it's entire life cycle.

Really this just comes back down console wars, plain and simple.

Just different, I think. It certainly didn't revolutionize the industry, and though it's definitely better for a few things, overall I think analog control is still the most intuitive form of control for most 3D games.

It's sad that nowadays we have to apologize and release preemptive disclaimers for parody and satire...

Yeah, one of the best in the series, story wise I think.

Still, as far as the 3DS port goes, I wish more time had been spent ironing out the aliasing and making the 3D look good. I played through the entire game with the 3D off, to tell the truth.

^No one liked that controller either. It's why it was eventually updated.

Obviously we've got to feel the controller for ourselves, but color me slightly worried. I've read from a few places that this controller feels noticeably cheap and flimsy.

But at the same time, you're right, this isn't unlike Nintendo. Their stuff almost always feels very toy like, and yet they've easily made some of the best controllers ever. Maybe this is jus...

Good god....GB Color lasted 36 HOURS!? Now THAT'S a battery life.

Yeah, I agree with you. The indie scene is flourishing right now because (I like to assume) people are growing tired of developers and publishers that seem willfully content to release safe, unimaginative genre-locked entries in established franchises.

It seems like the vast majority of AA to AAA games we get these days have to have a hundred genre tropes for every one imaginative mechanic or interesting narrative included in the final product.

Seriously. Those trailers would be more appropriate for something like Project Zomboid or something. The actual story in the first one was fairly straightforward action stuff, not the emotional rollercoaster the trailer suggested.

Still liked the game though...as much as the bugs and glitches would allow me to, that is.

I, for one, disagreed with him because I don't feel like the inclusion of the PC version is all that outrageous. Considering the amount of trouble I have with the vast majority of PC games these days (whether it's stuttering or texture pop-in or unoptimized drivers, etc.), I like to see not only how it looks compared to the console iterations, but how it performs.

Darksiders 2 and RAGE, for instance, were two games I opted for the console versions because of all the p...
