If it works within the context of the game, then I don't really have any bias toward one style or the other. Contrary to popular belief, a "realistic" style does not necessarily mean that a game is going to be devoid of all whimsy or creative design.
I'm with you. I liked the game, but it's not quite the "revolution in storytelling" it's being made out to be. It's just a really good point and click adventure.
...and to be honest I kind of feel the same way about the show.
They're about the deepest SRPG's you can get.
The stories, characters and humor are pretty standard anime-inspired stuff, but you're almost guaranteed to like the game even if the setting doesn't appeal to you. The gameplay is THAT good.
I couldn't disagree more. Shows like that should be wholly objective. The point is to present the facts and let people form their own opinions, not to present a one-sided debate. That helps no one. That's why people "champion" jackasses like Bill Maher and Glenn Beck.
An opinion tends to automatically sound "right" when it's just some dude given a podium to preach to his congregation.
Ironically, it will probably be thrown around as "conclusive" evidence in countless censorship battles in the future.
Spend it on cigs? lol What is this, the 90's?
"If you could pick one game as your all-time favorite, just one, what would it be and why?
Crash Bandicoot, hands down! It was the first game I ever had and I still love it. I'm 22 now and I still haven't been able to get past the second island."
Thank God this was approved. I would have a lot of trouble finding internet pornography if we didn't get these articles on gaming news site like N4G...
Right down to the straps apparently, which appear to be made out of shiny rolled duct tape.
It's a sarcastic title. The actual article is referring to the comments made by the writer in which he suggested people didn't understand the story or characters...which in and of itself is a ridiculous statement, but Kotaku taking the game into "racist" territory is just as groan-worthy as the writer accusing everyone of "not getting it."
It's a very beautiful engine, it's just...why do so many engines these days make everything look like it's covered in cellophane?
The world is not as shiny as many developers think it is...
DON'T YOU GET IT!? We've ALL "run out of walls."
Game over man. Game over.
I honestly did not pick up on any racism here. Some hackneyed, cliche-ridden writing...yeah, perhaps. But I definitely never felt like the writers were taking a derogatory tone with any of the characters.
It's so strange the things Kotaku decides they're going troll the internet with.
The duster + one-piece bathing suit seems like an odd combination to me, for some reason.
Yeah, I think a lot of that had to do with the whole "silent protagonist" schtick. Not saying it can't be done, but it's difficult to write around a character that never speaks and I think they created more hurdles than they jumped by making Corvo an emotionless spectator during the story bits.
I doubt anyone was seriously going to let the box art affect their opinion of the game. It's just sad that respectable developers have to find shallow ways to appeal to mainstream idiots just to keep their heads above water these days.
I honestly don't understand WHY so many sites are taking this angle. They're all acting like delays are out of the ordinary when in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a high-profile game that made the initial release date...
To be clear, the story was about a group of bro-tastic, privileged 20-somethings taking a trip to a tropical island...WHEN THINGS TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE.
There were some interesting characters, but in all honesty, did anyone give two licks about any of Jason's bro friends or why he needed tattoos to gain power or why he needed to bed a hot tribal chick to free his mind? Not really.
It was one of the best games of the year, but let's not try to make...
I agree with you. I don't know why everybody has to assemble some ridiculous laundry list of requirements for a successful game, as if there's one single way to make them enjoyable.
...I love the Souls franchise, but I'm not going to start making ridiculous claims about what games "need" to do to satisfy me when I've also loved games like Heavy Rain and To the Moon.
As far as I know, Demon's/Dark Souls are two of the most financially successful niche games of the generation.
Obviously you can't move it into "SUPER MASSIVE AAA EXPLOSIONS!!!" territory on a niche budget, but I think From Software does more with the money they're allotted than the vast majority of AAA developers out there could ever hope to.
The point is that From Software can obviously make tremendously awesome games without watering ...
Vaas was an EXCELLENT villain, but yeah, he didn't really get enough face time. He wasn't technically even the main villain.
