I felt sorry for the 4 million gamers that bought the title at full price in its first week back in May. The game always looked mediocre to me, not sure what people saw in it.
This year showed that while Nintendo had developed and or produced mostly safe sequels, but they were all practically the best in their respective franchise.
Nintendo heavily markets its titles to kids because kids are one of its bread and butter demographics. They also target families since their games are mostly family friendly. Of course, veteran Nintendo fans in their late 20's and early-mid thirties most likely make up the majority of Wii U's userbase.
Nintendo of America's recent Wii U eShop demographics data revealeda a breakdown regarding ages of Wii U players:
- 90% of Wii U owners are conne...
I agree that Nintendo's games are good and quite frankly ,as far as this year goes, I think Nintendo's been the best, most consistent publisher. Their software has been fun and well made, they've handled DLC well, they've provided some appreciated new features to Wii U via firmware updates, Bayonetta 2 was as an appriciated pro-consumer move, and Wii U's indie support continues to grow despite Wii U's low install base growth.
With that said, the home...
ah double post.
This news isn't exactly a surprise. The Amiibo figurines are only meant to save data from Smash Bros. It's not a coincidence that the current lineup of Amiibo are all based on the character designs and poses of their in-game Smash Bros trophies. Any other game you use your Amiibo figurine to unlock non-essential content for, will simply have the figurine unlock the content in those games without overwriting your Smash Bros data. I imagine Nintendo can even provide a firmware update to...
Wii U's had TV ads this year for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in February, Mario Kart 8 in May/June, Hyrule Warriors in September and Bayonetta 2's ad in October and November. There will be a TV ad for Smash Bros Wii U later this month. Every major game release Wii U's had this year came with a TV ad. The Bayonetta 2 TV ad is still airing, as it was shown several times during Adult Swim last night.
I liked South Park title as well as Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and while Mario Kart 8 was very good, I can't give it GOTY because its battle mode was a noticeable disappointment, and it could have had more gameplay modes. However, on the bright side, the new DLC provides 50% more content to it, and from what we've seen o fit, it looks pretty good overall, so we'll see how that turns out.
For me, it is a toss up between Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros. Bayon...
Monolith Soft must be rolling its eyes when it reads stupid comparison articles like this. You're not going to be stealing cars and killing npcs characters with sci-fi cops chasing your ass during mundane criminal missions. The city is just a seemingly fairly generic hub world of sorts for that one particular map like Colony 9 was to Xenoblade 1. There's likely not going to be many things for you to do and go into in Neo Los Angeles.
Majora's Mask 3DS - It was kind of a surprise announcement even though Nintendo's been teasing us about a potential remake since last year, but it's great that they've been listening to the Zelda fan base. The boxart looks awesome too.
Code name S.T.E.A.M. - I don't have a 3DS, but the game looka pretty interesting, so Intelligent Systems may have come up with a worthwhile original IP.
Captain Toad - I don't need to see any more foota...
While third party games have generally sold poorly on Wii U, what Ubisoft has done with this Watch Dogs port is create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Pokken Tournament is being developed for Japanese Arcades first, and the developer said the game is 30% complete as of early September. A port job takes anywhere from 7 months to a year to do, so it seems unlikely for a Wii U port to be out in time by 2015, but we may see it as early as spring 2016.
On the bright side, it seems about time for Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei to be revealed, but it may not happen until E3 2015 in June. Given Miyamoto's comments about spin-o...
If you think Nintendo is going to go back to being a direct competitor, then you haven't been paying attention to what Nintendo's Satoru Iwata has been revealing about the company's generalized next-gen plans for the last two years.
Nintendo will clearly continue to differentiate itself from Sony and Microsoft, but this time, their also going to try to cover their bases better in attempt to prevent the lack of software momentum based on a unified architectural ...
Shadow of the Eternals and Metroid Prime 4 don't belong on that list since A) the former is vaporware at this point and B) Retro hasn't announced its next project yet, and we probably won't even see it at E3 next year for that matter. Anyway, I want all the other listed titles except for Mario Party 10 and Mario Maker. The only projects that are announced, but are not confirmed for release/localization yet are Fatal Frame 5 and Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei.
Well, the sales say so. Wii U did double digits in July, August and September. Mario Kart 8's release only managed to do triple digits in June. Yes, sales will likely be highest this year during the holiday season, but Nintendo heavily relied on Mario Kart 8 to substantially drive hardware sales yet it has underperformed overall.
The game did very poorly to boost hardware sales in any major capacity in Japan so far, UK is a lost cause (60% increase isn't good enough g...
While sales have improved, that's not really saying much given just how badly Wii U sales really were last year for UK. I think it sold up to 130k console units for the entire year ,so obviously extremely poor. When we see stuff like an increase of 666% with Mario Kart 8's release, that sounds like a lot, but it's not that much when we put Wii U's situation into perspective.
This year has Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros for two flagship releases, so hardware sale...
According to Sega, Bayonetta 1 reportedly sold 1.1 million copies as of February 2010 between two home console platforms. The game came out first in Japan back in October 2009 and in January 2009 overseas. By April 2013, Platinum's president, Tatsuya Minami, said that he views Bayonetta 1 as a "C or D" in terms of its sales performance. Both Platinum and Sega were particularly disappointed with the game's software sales overseas.
Even if the sequel does sell poorly overall, at least Nintendo properly covered its bases with the game's marketing. There's a TV ad coming out for those that didn't think NOA would do it, check it out at the link below. Anyway, I praise Nintendo for providing us with this pro-consumer title. It may not sell well, but people can't complain that Nintendo didn't try to offer them something special here when other publishers had turned it down.

It's public knowledge that it was Retro Studios' decision to make a sequel to DKC: Returns. They had some unused ideas leftover that they wanted to feature in a direct sequel, which is a typical occurrence in game development.
Nintendo and Retro have teased us in the past about returning to Metroid and also considering the revival of the 3D Donkey Kong Country series. Nintendo likes having their games sell a lot of copies, that is in fact, the easiest ways to make ...
The reality is, Watch Dogs would have bombed hard on Wii U regardless of whether it came out on time or not. There's a clear pattern of poor third party sales ranging from Call of Duty and Splinter Cell to Tekken and Assassin's Creed on Wii U (games that came out on time, though Call of Duty was hurt by a stealth launches on Wii U, but the reality is it would have sold just as badly anyway because the fan base is not on Nintendo platforms to begin with). Even Nintendo's own publis...
