By next Spring, Smash Bros 4 will have been in development for around 2 years, based on the the comments of Masahiro Sakurai, the game's co-creator and director. He said a prototype was made around May-June 2012, and that development did not start until after Kid Icarus: Uprising's development was complete (which was in late January). So it is possible this new Smash Bros title could be ready in the first half of 2014, but it seems unlikely. Nintendo did release Mario Kart Wii and S...

Yep, Cranky Kong was the most logical choice and a nice tribute too.

Just because a game is announced at an industry event like E3, does not necessarily mean it has been in development since or before that time. In the case of Smash Brothers Brawl and Smash Bros Wii U+3DS, Nintendo prematurely announced both the games months before these titles were even ready to begin development. In fact, the development teams had not even been put together yet.

While Smash Bros was announced at E3 2011 in name only, its development didn't actually start...

I think some of you guys are underestimating the development time of Zelda games. This new Zelda project has indeed made progress in its development, but it's likely just past the prototype phase. It likely won't start full production until next year. We just recently found out that the Zelda team has fully reunited after the recent completion for development on A Link Between Worlds , so they'll only start beginning to work on the game as a full team now.

Part of ...

Yeah, Sega still owns Bayonetta IP. Nintendo only secured exclusive publishing rights to Bayonetta 2 by licensing the IP from Sega to financially develop and market the game, but Sega is apparently serving as a consultant on the project. As part of the publishing contract, Sega can't release the game on PlayStation or Xbox consoles.

Anyway, if Hideo Kamiya says his a port of Bayonetta 1 can be done in time before Bayonetta 2's development, then it looks like Bayonett...

In Nintendology, good game design transcends hardware power. EAD Tokyo, send these heathens to the heavens so they may experience next-gen bliss in its purest form: Fun!

I doubt we'll see anything from Suda 51 for Wii U anytime soon. He's been working on a next-gen project called Lily Bergamo, that uses Unreal Engine 4. It is confirmed for PS4, but will be coming to other platforms too, but since it uses EU4, then Xbox One and PC are obviously the most likely the other platforms. It could be ported to Wii U, but not without compromises.

Grasshopper Manufactures' track record shows that it usually focuses on 1 big project per year...

Just because Nintendo lists any game as TBD does not necessarily mean it will be out the year it is listed on. In fact, we have seen Nintendo list games that have either been delayed or removed from previous software schedule lists. For the record, Iwata said we can expect more unannounced games to be revealed for 2014 release, so the software schedule does not naturally list all of the projects. In fact, we also know about other titles like that free-to-play Steel Diver-based multiplayer gam...

Yeah, Nintendo's marketing campaign is really the big thing that stands in its way. They need to start TV advertisements already to promote the price cut, game releases and bundles.

I don't expect Wii U to sell 500,000 units for either November or December, so 200,000-300,000 is perhaps a realistic number for Nintendo to reach given their situation. Remember, Wii U hasn't sold 100,000 units all year in the US, and it only came close last month after NPD sale...

The touch screen isn't a problem, and developers don't have to use any of the GamePad's bells and whistles if they don't want to. Nintenodo has made that completely clear and optional because they don't want to tell third parties how to develop their games out of respect. The touchscreen isn't a hindrance in most Wii U games, and if it is, then it is due to an individual developer's inability to use it effectively, and that is what we refer to as being a game desig...

Yeah, there's no question that Nintendo is committed to Wii U. Quite frankly, their the only ones that are. All kidding aside, Nintendo will try to make the best of a bad situation.

I don't think it will be fine. Even as Wii U gets more and more compelling exclusives, albeit almost all 1st party-related, the Wii U is going to primarily be attractive to a shrunken Nintendo fan base, a problem Nintendo has had since the N64. That fan base is a clear problem when it comes to the home console market where unlike the handheld market, Nintendo faces steep competition, hardware power is relevant and the type of software in demand is largely stuff Nintendo consoles are not ...

Third parties won't be taking Wii U seriously for three main reasons: lack of financial incentive, technical incompatibility issues with next-generation game engines, and how third parties prefer to innovative through software development rather than through hardware features. In other words, most developers don't want to have their games based around a controller's capability, especially when most games third parties release are multiplatform, so the Wii U isn't going to get ...

Third parties won't be taking Wii U seriously for three main reasons: lack of financial incentive (due to the consistent poor software and hardware sales so far, low install base, poor software attach rate and the perception that some of their franchises may not being a good fit for the Nintendo audience), and issues with technical incompatibility with next-generation game engines support. Some engines Wii U just can't handle while others it may be able to, but not without compromi...

Unfortunately, I'm not so sure things will change all that much for Wii U in Japan this year. Wind Waker HD just bombed there with sales still under 50k copies as of last week, and it dropped out of the top 20 software chart too. According to the latest Famitsu Top 20 Most Wanted software chart, the only Wii U title to appear on it was Mario Kart 8 at 12th place, so none of the 2013 games for it made it on the chart. That's not a great sign. It doesn't look like Japanese gamers a...

Over 200% would put Wii U sales over 93,000 units compared to August's 31,000 units.

Things to remember for Wii U sales in this 5 week NPD coverage:

- The Wii U price cut, Wind Waker HD console bundle did not come out until September 20th, so that's 16 days worth of sales out of 35 days. In addition, people probably held back on buying a Wii U until (except for pre-orders of course) then because we were aware of the price cut and bundles back in Augu...

I do agree that Nintendo is still struggling with communicating what Wii U is to retailers and consumers, and it shows. It will no doubt continue to hurt Wii U this holiday season. Nintendo didn't even give The Wonderful 101 or Wind Waker HD a TV ads here in the US, let alone one for the official Wii U price cut. It's baffling decision. I realize Nintendo of America has a budget to work with, but when your home console is struggling to do well in terms of hardware and software sales, ...

Wii U sales were even higher back in May after Xbox One's initial unveiling, shooting up 875% on the Amazon UK chart. Wii U's ranking went from 390th place to 40th, and then eventually 11th. Of course, it didn't last long ,and sales have continued to be awfully low in UK. The high % still isn't good enough given the situation its been facing this year.

Apparently, retailers over there have severely limtied their shelf space for the console. Anyway, its nice to...

Compared to the first game, it looks like the sequel sports noticeably better textures, image quality, poly count, and lighting. The scale of the setpieces look larger as well. It's probably not going to be locked at 60 FPS though. In any case, Platinum seems to be on a roll with good action games since Wonderful 101 was a delightfully refreshing experience. I didn't have the pleasure of playing the first Bayonetta game, but I sure will buy the sequel.
