A stroll down memory lane...

"PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will. It's something that is going to be a slow burner, and suddenly it's like a tsunami; it will just overtake you." - David Reeves, 2008

"I believe that the Sixaxis controller offers game designers and developers far more opportunity for future innovation than rumble ever did. Now, rumble...

It is probably because Nintendo is particularly desperate to revitalize Wii U sales in UK where it has performed the worst compared to the US and Japan. They need to give UK gamers a bigger incentive to buy Wii U than just to release Mario Kart 8 as a regular stand alone release. Nintendo likely wants to limit their losses with this bundle so they won't sell it globally. In Nintendo's mind, Mario Kart 8's stand alone release should be enough fo an incentive to boost hardware sales...

The developer said their nearly finished with it, but it probably won't be out until May since it hasn't bee submitted to Nintendo yet.

Interesting that it could be Bayonetta 1. Back in late November 2013, Hideki Kamiya stated that he could release the title before Bayonetta 2. So it would take a minimum of half a year to do a port job of it. However, it seems like Nintendo did not approve of the project nor did Platinum start it by the end of 2013. So the game couldn't be coming out by the first half of 2014... unless Kamiya already had it happening and was just toying with us.

Their just mostly buying cross-gen ports of games you can already play on PS3,Xbox 360 and PC. These early adopters want to move on from the last generation hardware ASAP even though it still means that a lot of the games coming out this year for PS4 are still based on last generation software.looking like their going to be following down that path too. Honestly, I don't really see third parties making the full transition to the current generation of software development until 2015. By...

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that Wind Waker HD sold a million copies. Not bad for a mere port. This will likely encourage Nintendo to do another HD port in the near future.

I love it when people make suggestions about what Nintendo should do, but don't even think about the potential consequences of taking such an action.

R&D on new consoles starts right away. This isn't news folks. According to Iwata Asks, the mechanical dev team at Nintendo began working on Wii U's configurations in April 2009. Of course, they were still planning things out before then.

No, it doesn't indicate the next Zelda's art style. Masahiro Sakurai goes for a cohesive art direction for Smash Brothers, and I suppose it looked better to have returning character designs from Twilight Princess than that of Skyward Sword. Maybe he didn't feel Zelda's SS look was an appropriate fit especially if Zelda will have her alternative Sheik form, which was redesigned for Smash Bros in the style of Twilight Princess. The character designs of Smash Bros do not general...

It looks like Retro Studios found the right ingredients to make the sequel even better than its predecessor. There is no reason to be Cranky.

I think people expecting Zelda Wii U to be a graphical showcase will be disappointed. The Zelda team relies more on art direction than graphical fidelity. Every game it has worked on - especially since the GameCube - has demonstrated that. That's not to say the game won't look lovely, but it will be due to asthetics if anything. Of course, Nintendo has shown its done a good job utilizing special effects like lighting and depth of field in its Wii U titles so far. However, in Pikmin 3,...

Yeah, I doubt any of those wishlist games will be announced at E3 2014.

- Retro Studios is putting the finishing touches on DKC: Tropical Freeze, and its usually taken them over 2 1/2 years to make a new project. DKC Returns took around 2 years and 8 months to make, and by the looks of it, DKC: Tropical Freeze took about just as long. So whatever Retro Studios chooses to work on next, likely will not be revealed until E3 2016 with a fall release date.

Yeah, Nintendo's done renewals for trademarks for IPs including Eternal Darkness in February 2010 and again in June 2013. Luigi's Mansion and Xenoblade are some other known titles to have their trademarks renewed several times. Of course, with those last two IPs, we saw actual sequels get announced.

Game companies do this so no one else can use the title name even if the publisher doesn't end up releasing the game at all. Of course, it does look like Retro will ...

With the NPD sales data coming in for November, it sure looks like Wii U bombed hard, it probably sold somewhere under 180k. Nintendo likely won't even mention it in its report, but Iwata has some tough questions to face from Nintendo investors come January's financial meeting. Such a shame to given how much of an underrated console Wii U is, but Nintnedo needs to enter panic mode in early 2014.

Well, you actually forget about Game & Wario, Wind Waker HD, Wii U Party, Wii Fit U (eshop version) and New Super Luigi U(the expansion of New SMBU). In addition, Nintendo published Lego City, Mario & Sonic Olympics, Wii Sports Club (co-developed by Namco Bandai) and The Wonderful 101. 2014 was more about 3DS than Wii U was, but 2014 seems like it to be the opposite.

Twilight Princess was just a GameCube port that served as a Wii launch title with 16:9 support and W...

Nintendo already said its policy is that it won't be funding indie games for exclusivity. However, it has provided incentives like free loaned dev kits to several studios, using Unity free of charge and free patching. Nintendo also been reaching out to several indie studios to discuss the possibility of getting their games put on its platforms, and has also helped promote indie games at numerous industry events.

Quite frankly, Wii U's indie support has been growing a...

Bayonetta 2 was always planned for a 2014 release. It's just that Nintendo revealed it to us back in September 2012 from a Nintendo Direct video that featured a very brief teaser trailer for the game. In January 2013, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the game, and then the first real trailer featuring gameplay footage and a public demo was offered during E3 in June 2013.

We still don't know when exactly Bayonetta 2 will be coming out next year, but Hideki Kamiya s...

That's a false claim my friend. Retro Studios openly said it wanted to do a sequel to DKC sequel. It chose to do it and Nintendo accepted their decision. In fact, Nintendo reportedly said Retro had no current plans to do a sequel to DKC: Returns back in March 2011, which was less than 5 months after DKC: Returns came out. Doing a sequel often starts by having the development team look at the ideas it wasn't able to include in the first title, so Retro wants to make the sequel otherwi...

Dual GamePad support seems rather pointless. First of all, the GamePad (despite being cool in of itself) has actually been a detriment to Wii U instead of a selling point. Pretty much all of Wii U's problems stem from the GamePad's existence. It is why Wii U is underpowered, overpriced, helped cause its marketing confusion, and why it is also being sold at a loss. Secondly, designing a game that's meant for 2 GamePads means Nintendo and third parties would essentially be designin...
