I say dream on, 1080p still has so little penetration that even when they up the fill rate 4-8 times faster than it is right now, they will use all that extra speed for more polys and effects on the screen and consoles are looking at tops 720p resolution video games for the next 10 years.
On Edit: The next cpu will be a later iteration of the PPC cpu that is in the current xbox, probably with more cores...

Why??? That way they can have a low end console to go head to head with the wii, and then they have a high end console for core gamers, and can compete with the graphics that only the PC can muster.
Also, Microsoft just made a patent sharing deal with LG to get the kinect technology in LG televisions, and then they can use the Kinect as the killer application which it is... As a remote control device.
For me it is about the money, and I want some sort of ultra portable computer device, and I have to look at all my options, and the iPad just looks like it offers more to me...

Over the last year I have been doing the Game con circuit in the mid-west. Everything tells me that these are the core gamers you are talking about. They play videogames, they cosplay, and a lot of them are insanely good at stomping on buttons games, and more recently Dance Central.
Dance games are not casual, no matter how many times you try to claim otherwise.

Once Netflix has kinect support, and whenever Hulu plus gets here with kinect support, the Kinect will absolutely be a must have accessory, because as a television remote control, the Kinect is a killer app. Just deal.
If people use the xbox plus Kinect to watch tv for a couple hours a day, every day, does that mean tv watching is a core gaming experience?

So the dance games are obviously core games, because people play those games for hours on end and are willing to devote massive amounts of time to being able to pass expert levels.
Same with exercise games.
That the people who play dance or exercise games are in better aerobic condition than you has no bearing on them being casual or hardcore games.

Well the new hires are not going to be taking the lead on developing a new console. Presumiably they want people who are experienced to do that. The new hires are to fill out an existing team, who is probably wrapping up the new xbox and these guys will then get the experience of what it is like to launch a new console.
