LG owns the specific patents that cover reading data from blu-ray disks. So BDA has nothing, LG owns blu-ray.
LG owns the blu-ray standard, the PS3 has a blu-ray player in it. Sony hasn't paid the bill.
The stuff is allowed to happen because you have to pay your bills... It is like the basis of capitalism.
So it is confirmed then. LG does actually own the blu-ray standard, and Sony admits that the PS3 uses LG's technology. The only question is were the terms that LG offered Sony fair and reasonable. Looks like LG thought their blu-ray patents were more valuable than the patents thta Sony offered to cross license.

If you look at where intel, ibm and amd are going with their current generation of cpus the next console generation will not have discrete cpu and gpus. They will have one giant multi purpose cpu.
That is my laymans guess anyhow. The current xbox and ps3 cpu's have about 200 million transistors on them, while current state of the art is to put about 2 billion transistors on a single die. And the thing will have a whole bunch of different cores for a bunch of differen...
Don't buy a Sony 3d tv then, because they use LG panels.
