Hate to break it to you, but not all technology is good technology. The only major befit that cloud gaming or OnLive offers you is the ability to instantly game as soon as your purchase it on old hardware. However there are major disadvantages to this type of service that vastly outweigh that one advantage, and it is these disadvantages that keep retail and digital as better options. Just to name a few, you need near 100% up-time (which rarely happens with online services, take PSN for exampl...
There is a big difference between spending $60 on a game rather than just over a $1 for a song... music just makes more sense being digital. There small files that almost ANYONE with an internet connection can download. Games are large so they can take a while to download and take a lot of space. These make more sense as physical items.
Not to mention using the "cloud" or OnLive, is streaming... so you don't really own anything in that is bought. Big difference ...
Why the hell would anyone pay full price on OnLive for a game that they can only own while its on there servers, if your read the fine print... they tell you they may only keep the game on there servers up to a couple of years. So you are paying full price for a game that you don't really own, and at some point you will lose the ability to play your favorite game. This is a glorified rental service, and nothing more... it will only appeal to those type of people. Digital or retail are far...
Why would anyone want to pay full price for a game that they only get to own while its on there servers. I mean if you have a good enough connection to use OnLive then why not buy the digital version and actually own what your purchasing. I understand lots of people are to lazy to drive to a store now days, but come on... this crap is getting a little ridiculous.
OnLive is nice for anyone who wants to "try" the game, but buying it at full price is nuts... because yo...
I vaguely remember seeing a video of a game that allowed you to add mods to consoles, and it wasn't a hack or anything that I know of. If I remember correctly you had to add the mod to a USB flash-drive and import it though the games menu and install it. I don't see why they couldn't do something like that honestly...
EDIT: YES found the video, the game was Unreal Tournament 3... and there is a video on YouTube where a guy shows you how to do it. So I don't s...
This was a good article, it was nice to read an article that talked about digital, and didn't declare it the "future". I like how he said to buy games how you want to buy games, so if you prefer digital buy digital... but if you want retail then buy all means buy retail and if they don't have it ask them to get it.
I like how at-least someone in the gaming world understands that digital may have its benefits to some people, but it doesn't replace the nee...
It not illegal for a parent to buy a M rated game for a child, it is illegal for a store to sell an M rated game to a child.
Its a parents job to decide if there child is mature enough for an M rated game, its not the Supreme Courts job...
Touch screen controls SUCK... I bought GTA Chinatown Wars, for my iPod, it was horrible. While I think casuals will buy an Apple product over Sony or Nintendo your never going to get hardcore gamers on-board with touch screen controls.
Gaming was so much more simple back in the day when gaming was considered nerdy... and gaming wasn't a multimillion dollar business.
People need to stop using the Apple as an example of why an all digital or buttonless futu...
@ Stickers:
First off your forgetting that the Vita is using 3G, which has not been confirmed if it will allow you to actually play games online. In my experience with 3G, normally you average about 1.5 Mbps which is not really good enough for a lag free experience. So most likely you will only be able to play COD in places with WiFi.
So without that good online experience, I don't see COD becoming as popular on a handheld compared to the console. But I c...
Your comparing a new system with barley any good games, to two other systems with huge game library's. It's no wonder there selling better...
While I think Vita will do better than last time, I still don't think it will beat the 3DS in sales. Lets be honest here, while Uncharted will no doubt move some hardware, you would have to be crazy to think that Uncharted or another PlayStation exclusive will move more hardware than Pokemon or Mario.
Uncharted 2 in a years time sold around 3.8 million as of September 2010 according to wiki. While Pokemon black and white sold about 11.5 million in a years time, and had ov...
L.A Noire was a pretty good game...
Resident Evil on the 3DS looks NOTHING like an N64 game... I mean really did you even play the N64? Clearly you & him have forgotten what N64 games looked like then...
Comparing it to the Wii or hell even the GameCube would have been an more accurate statement...
Ignorance is bliss...
Not to mention that its so easy to reach your bandwidth limit when you start downloading a couple of games each month, plus music or movies and then you have to pay more when you go over.
Oh how ironic this post is, when they are telling us to wake up, when they clearly need to wake up to the limitations of the digital format.
Streaming is the future, yea maybe in the very long distance future... but not anywhere close to the here and now. Streaming or download only is not going to be a good option when there a lot of people who are lucky if the get 1.5 - 3.5 Mbps, and have ridiculous bandwidth caps.
Do you really think these ISP's are going to let you download whatever you want with no repercussions... yea keep dreaming if you think that. The effects of the digital age are already upon us, it&...
At the end of the day though, I really could care less because I'm going to do the smart thing and own both... as they both offer completely different experiences to the player.
"Having a graphics comparison between the Vita and Nintendo 3DS is like having a comparison between a Playstation 3 and a Nintendo 64."
I stopped reading right there, is the person for real? I ask you to look at Resident Evil on the 3DS then say that:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
And Capcom has already stated there not even using the full power of the system for...
What is with these articles that feel the need to say something about OnLive, OnLive will only appeal to certain people. OnLive is a basically a online rental service... your paying to rent the games, not own them. Steam or console games are far better options.
If OnLive becomes the new norm, then I quit gaming...
Why do these dumb articles keep getting approved? Between all of these articles saying digital is the future, streaming is the future, mobile gaming is the future... I'm starting to wonder how many futures where going to have?
You can't fix stupid... and these articles are stupid!!!
