Yes, except in those cases competing platforms weren't viable because of technical limitations (the N64 used limited cartridges); because the platform was simply not viable anymore (the Sega Saturn tanking everywhere but Japan); or because the software was made to appeal to a new audience that a competing platform had brought in (Sony mainstreaming videogames amongst 20-somethings).

In addition Nintendo had governed software development houses a with veritable iron fist o...

The thing is we don't know what the publisher was paid for this agreement, so to call it a win-win at this point is baseless. It seems more likely this entire thing has backfired given the poor sales (which is a totally different thing from critical reception)

What we do know is the sales are pretty awful. Enough so that the exclusivity X-factor doesn't seem to have worked for this game's sales.

Well, it tanked for more reasons than that. A few come to mind:

1. Microsoft putting almost no advertising push behind it whatsovever.

2. Square Enix talking openly about the PC/PS4 versions (even stating specifics on enhancements for the PC version) before game was EVEN OUT.

3. Releasing on the same day a Fallout 4 with almost no marketing exposure (see 1).

The way I see it both SE and Microsoft handled the exclusivity of th...

"I don't get it, these games usually don't play very well what's the lost value here?"

Okay. But what about when it is an amazing game? Or the one game you were looking forward to? Or heck, a litany of games you were looking forward to?

The value lost is subjective. That it is lost is objective. Think about the bigger picture: A videogame company is forgoing the release of a game not because they think it won't sell enough to recoup ...

Annoying, but perhaps understandable: Like it or not the cultural tide is shifting and people taking issues with the depiction of women in games like DOA has reached critical mass (as well as mass media exposure). It's simply become a modern taboo.

What I don't like, however, is having the society around me dictate what I can and can't purchase locally down to me (either directly or through pressure, as seems to be the case here).

That's an in...

600? I don't think there are actually even that many enemies in the entire game.

That is all.

TBF I think I literally own every game I want to own at this point. If I haven't gotten a game yet it's highly unlikely it's price that's stopping me.

That's what happens when you spend years indulging bundle sales.

A localisation announcement needs to come first. Then a PC announcement will follow as PC versions are essentially a western thing.

"I keep seeing people post making it an xbox exclusive was a stipid idea due to the xbox one not setting as well as the ps4. We don't know when the deal was made it could of been made before the xbox one was released just like Titanfall was."

There was only a few weeks between the initial reveal (which made no mention of platform) and the exclusivity announcement.

Microsoft themselves went on record stating they were still working to secure the ...

Thing is, how noticeble is that screen tearing in practice? Tears along the top of the screen during vertical pans aren't going to stand out as much as ones in the middle of the screen. And the length of time those tears persist also plays a role in how noticeble they are.

Having completed the game I can't say I noticed much screen tearing at all. And the FPS drops actually aren't that frequent or even in the intense areas you might expect (that said, they are als...

TBF this game completely reverses the ratio of shooting/exploring from Tomb Raider 2013 (which WAS proportioned like Uncharted). And more importantly the bulk of the game that is explorationn is semi-freeform rather than simply a way of moving between explosive setpieces (of which there are only a handful in RoTR).

RoTR actually feels closer to Underworld, than it does to TR 2013 IMO.

This is the first I've heard of story-related DLC. And honestly that's the only kind I care about as I don't play multiplayer. Give us a sizeable chunk of quality game for a fair price and people will happily pay for it (which is basically what he's saying).

If anything the character is less iconic now than she was before as she's less visually distinct and not as charismatic. In addition she's pushing a form of gameplay that many would consider derivative rather than trail-blazing.

The real issue with the older games wasn't really an issue with the games but the tendencies of mass market consumers to gravitate towards big budget action extravaganzas.

And that's not surprising: those games look am...

TBF it would be pretty awesome if you could play as a pistol-toting renegade Volus.

My biggest personal reason has nothing to do with the strengths of the PC, but the erosion of the typical strengths of a console.

Time was (PS2 era) you stuck a game in and it worked and performed great. Yeah, many games might have been 30fps or might have left certain areas of visual fidelity lacking, but the overall experience was very competent (and it wasn't like you could play even a tenth of those awesome games on PC)and extremely consistent gaming bliss.

@Starchild: We were talking about the kind of ambition that would be held back by cross-generation support.

The fact that the game looks good inspite of being a cross-generation game only proves my point.

Not that I'd consider something impressive visuals alone indicative of ambition: what new tech are they pioneering? How does it refine the way games are made or approached? Or how does it change how a Tomb Raider game is approached?

TBH nothing we've seen of this game so far has screamed "ambition" on the part of the developers. So I can't imagine that it would have actually benefitted in any meaningful way from being only on the newer systems.
