Yes. Because they've gone on record stating in unequivocal terms that there will be no super/ultra variant of the game. And they've restated this in several ways from several angles making it clear they aren't playing semantic games.

You can... but only against what seems to be the CPU at the lowest difficulty and only one round fights.

You can play tougher CPU opponents in practice mode but there's still no way to play multi-round fights. What that does is encourage you to burn through your meter as fast as possible, meaning you never use your Critical Art.

And since neither you or the CPU sit on, or use your Critical Arts an entire part of the game is missing when playing the comput...

It doesn't work that way. It's called a fighting game 'community' rather than a fighting game 'league' because all contenders are welcome, not just a few sponsored elites that have already proven themselves. So you are looking at somewhere in the region of 100,000 copies or more.

But I agree they should done some kind of pro-build at a hefty discount (maybe digital only) with just VS/training (and maybe online) modes. They could have then upgraded that...

Ryu can parry in SFV.

Though TBF I think this is just a case of Daigo being a good sport/entertaining exhibitionist. It wouldn't be the first time pro-players have demoed a game whilst holding back/having fun for the audience.

When 3rd Strike HD was being demoed Justin Wong made a point of throwing out random Chun Li supers for Daigo to parry (even though it made no sense to do them). They were both smiling, as was the audience: it wasn't a serious ma...

The difference is the those games didn't have the content/depth of gameplay to give them longevity, making them poor value propositions. The issue wasn't the games were 'fun but light on content' but 'fun but shallow'. When your game is shallow the breath of content becomes incredibly important because playing through new (equally shallow) stuff is the only way to keep the player engaged.

That's not true for a fighting games where the amount of con...

I can't help but feel Capcom, on the one hand, made the right call to get the game out of the door as fast as possible for the competitive players (as the core of the game is finished). But perhaps a low-key digital-only 'pro edition' release (at a discount) now, and a full on $60 boxed (re)launch in June for the average consumer would have been made every party happy.

In reality there would still only be one SKU of the game as the 'pro' version would beco...

Keep in mind each new season of KI comes at a cost. Whereas this isn't the case for SFV. So that suggests cost in the long term will be about the same (if not cheaper) for SFV.

But what about immediate upfront cost? Now consider that SFV starts with 16 characters which IIRC is more than 3 times what KI had at launch. This makes it a bigger package worthy of the bigger upfront cost.

Looks like SFV's model is cheaper in the long-term than KI and better ...

They are committing to a service model for the game. This structure works well for fighting games (as proven by Killer Instinct) because a dev can't put out a broken/poorly balanced game and then abandon it (and the competitive community behind it) if it stinks. They have to stick around for the entire generation.

Since new features/characters and so on are player-input dependent so it makes even more sense to release a solid core game and build around that. And keeping t...

That's because those games are installed sequentially, with parts deeper into the game installing later on as you are playing the game.

That model doesn't work as seamlessly for a fighting game where a player might jump into versus and pick any stage and any character (maybe some stages/characters/modes will be locked until the install gets around to them).

"I would argue that what goes on during the bits between the story paces is what defines whether or not an excellent story with average pacing is a better choice than an average story with excellent pacing."

Yeah, I was making the assumption that "all other things be equal". But in reality it's rarely quite that black and white.

A lot of them have way too much fluff, both in terms of grind and meandering narrative. It's funny because older JRPGs tend to be blisteringly paced in comparison to modern ones: more happens the opening 15 hours of FFVII than the first 30 in newer games. And all of Chrono Trigger's excellently paced story is over and done with before the 30 hour mark.

It's better to tell an average story with excellent pacing than it is to tell an excellent story with average pac...

TBH I can't see much demand for a smaller unit. The Xbox One has no clear design deficiencies that a new version could fix and TBH it fits neatly (and stealthily) into almost any entertainment centre, making its size a moot point.

Right... but that reality doesn't exist. So any mistunderstanding is the exact opposite of inevitable: it's willful.

That's really silly given how incredibly common a name like that would be.

They aren't pre-rendered on the Xbox One. If they were the images would appear identical with the exception of some compression artifacts. That's not what we're seeing.

Huh, when the screenshots came out it honestly just looked like the way I remember the Xbox One version, but higher res. I guess when you put them side-by-side the multitude of tiny differences become more apparent.

Yep, just gonna keep on waiting for the patches to roll in. By the time I get around to playing this (likely after upgrading) it will almost be a different game entirely.

No... with played it with mushy upscaled textures that you remember looking much better than they actually did.
