This is how console Dev tools work. This isn't for gamers looking to use Move as a PC peripheral. Its for programmers to experiment with the move control scheme in a dev environment.
If some really cool PC applications come out of this, then Sony might go through the trouble of creating WHQL certified drivers for the PS Eye and Move. They CERTAINLY WONT open source their drivers and blob detection algorithms.
Some people are clearly having a difficult time getting their heads around this. Others just have their heads in the sand.
You are likely correct Parpapraxis, this slide uses old numbers and it was probably recycled from a presentation given before Q3 results were posted.
The best way to put this to rest would be for one of these "journalists" to contact Sony PR and get clarification, instead of everyone making guesses and creating controversy that...
I can't believe so many of you are this dense. Its obvious that these are numbers through Q3FY2010, considering they are IDENTICAL. This presentation was probably put together before Q4 numbers were announced.
I have to admit that it was a stupid oversight by whomever created the presentation, but then again they probably didn't realize how many fanboys would get a hard-on over this.
Yep, I think you are right. I found an official link.

It looks to me like early availability will be limited, but it will eventually be available to anyone who wants it.
The PSBlog entry makes it sound like this will be available to anyone with a PS3. McCutchan even goes on to state:
"It allows anyone with a PS3 to experiment with motion controls and is officially sanctioned and supported by Sony Computer Entertainment."
He then finishes with this thought:
"We know that some of you out there are aspiring software developers yourselves and we’re eager to see what kinds of applications Move.Move...
This game may force me to buy a 3DS. Damn I wish Nintendo had a HD Console and it got a OOT remake.
Sak, name me a game that MS released within 4 months of an announcement. I can't recall a single one. Most announced games are 12-18 months from completion.
Sony does tend to announce earlier (18-24 months). Obviously there are exceptions but they don't pretend that those games are "coming soon" as you seem to imply.
I would really doubt that any E3 announcements will be released this fall, other than maybe the rumored Halo remake.
Can't say I agree. Remember that the NGP is not a smartphone, and games will typically be larger. If games are 2-4 GBs each, you can fill up 32GB of storage in a hurry. I would much rather have external storage that allows me to swap/upgrade the amount of storage available.
Some devices do not give you this option, and you are completely limted to the amount of onboard memory. To me, that is living in the past.
MS wouldn't do this. A decision against Sony would make the 360 fair game as well. Inviting someone to "jailbreak" Windows Phone 7 is very different than inviting someone to softmod the 360 with XBL access.
I'm guessing you didn't bother to read the article.
Reverse engineering the operating system violates the EULA, which makes it illegal...although that wont really get you in trouble. However distributing your findings (which Geohot did) will get you in hot water. When he made that root key public, he doomed himself. He also released software that can forge signed code for the PS3, which is also illegal.
You, me, nor Geohot owns the software on the PS3, we only own a license to use it. You can do whatever you want with the ...
Green, that hypocrisy goes both ways. Did you really have to go through the trouble of reseaching to know this?
Isn't it hypocritical for fanboys of one console to constantly call out fanboys of the other? Both exist.
Rainstorm81 has it right.
@rjgbyrne
EPIC has stated time and time again that they own the Gears IP. See the following:
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...
That said, I doubt Gears goes to the NGP. EPIC has a good releationship with MS and they probably want to keep it that way.
Christ dude, calm down. Every major retailer reports sell-in. The only time they don't is for PR to fanboys when a devices are selling extremely well.
Even then they report shipped at times. Remember 8 million Kinects sold? Shipped numbers.
From what I can gather its concept only. The blogger (presumably a hacker) stated that he can alter data sent to the PSN, so it should be possible to create an application that can spoof the console ID sent to sony. He mocked up what the application could possibly look like.
Hackers won't be able to ban legit users on demand though. Its impossible for them to extract your console ID unless you are running custom firmware. Any users that got banned as a result of this ...
I agree completely with all of this. I had a similar experience. I don't mind twisting to reload, but I despise thrusting forward to melee. I play with high sensitivity so moving the controller like that throws my camera out of wack.
Users should have the choice to map square to either reload or melee. Circle would be an option too, but if you try to melee near an ammo crate it might be an issue since it would double as the use button.
Can't allow that, atleast not as long as DS3 players are mixed with move players. It wouldn't be fair to analog players, because Move players could turn so much faster.
In Move only matches developers could probably make it work, but there would need to be a control scheme which allows the user to reposition the Move without moving the pointer...similar to picking up a mouse. Holding in the move button could accomplish this, but then you would need another button to...
@BlackKnight
It was DigitalFoundry that originally made the comparison of MLAA to 16xMSAA. Folks picked that up and ran with it.
The truth is somewhere inbetween, and it largely depends on the internal resolution of the game. If you are gaming at 1080p 4xMSAA will probably eliminate aliased edges every bit as good as MLAA would. At 720p that isnt the case IMO.
You are correct that the items you described Will look better with MSAA. Howeve...
New Voltron TV series? Im sure they will manage to completely screw that up.
Instead they could just release the original anime on bluray...instant buy for me.
If this happens, it wont be via Emulation. PS2 games would be rebuilt for the mobile platforms.
Control schemes would really limit what games could come to these devices. Even the NGP is missing the trigger buttons, however you could probably implement them on the rear touch pad.
