These articles get ridiculous. They pick one sentence out of context and make it their headline.
It's a very long interview and I recommend to read it. Actually pretty interesting insight about their thought process. http://www.npr.org/sections...
He says in the same line, that the tablets evolved so f...
... and they should make it X86 based for easy third party support imo.
But I fear they will go down the rout of a "mobile" hybrid platform based on Android, so they can transfer and connect their software easily between the console and phones/tablets.
@MaterCornholio
This generation will be a shortone anyway. Steamboxes will get cheaper and stronger every year ... you can bet that they will surpass PS4 and X1 in their cost-value-ratio in about 2-3 years.
Then Sony and Microsoft will allready have their next consoles ready to show. (If Microsoft still goes that rout, which I doubt. I bet, they will deliver a "Console" aka Living room PC with Win10 on board next.)
I wouldn't bet on that backwards compatibility.
Good list, good writing, ... good memories.
Ppl often forget that their current consoles (PS4 and X1) are mere PCs with a proprietery OS and fixed hardware.
Not all movies or books are a piece of art, nor are games. There has to be some kind of aspiration and craft in it ... to be called art. Imo at least.
A sitcom (movie) is not art, nor is my camping guide (book), nor is Call of Duty (game) ...
Most games I would call "entertainment".
Hopefully not. They should go the x86 rout to acquire easy third party support. That would also fit to there statement, that NX will be a dedicated gaming platform, but not replace the WiiU.
Looking forward to this for a long time now. Great to see some footage finally.
I fear they will go the blue ocean route again, and instead of facing the competition, open another new market, like they did with the Wii and tried with the WiiU ...
Graphics do matter. The problem is when developers forget to make a good game, while polishing their graphics.
In the end, it's about a well balanced distribution of resources.
... WiiUs library is still worth to play through, although it won't expand that much further. It's more a question of hardware price now and personal taste. If you can get the console cheap (maybe used) - the games are out and good fun.
I read a lot of stuff over the past two years in the line of: They should just shut the WiiU crap down, refocus and come up with a new console. Now they do it. Be happy! ... And from a business perspective it might actually be the right decicion to shift resources into other projects.
As a gamer I feel let down, though. Foremost, because I really enjoyed playing on the WiiU ... just a lot of great games they've put out the last 2 years - no question.
Could even be their quality of life device ...
Edit: I know they said it's a device dedicated to games, but that's very vague. Could be a biofeedback device with mini games for example. (Something I would buy btw, but certainly nothing the "hardcore" gaming community is longing for.)
... I think their next is more crucial - revealing the NX.
Meanwhile at Nintendos - wild 30th anniversary mario party.
Reggie (in panic) to staff:
"What the hell is going on here! You weren't supposed to it the mushroom decoration!"
Indeed. Such a huge chance for new and exciting gaming - espescially cool couch coop, strategy, roleplaying games ... What happend to creativity regarding their own device?
Also never understood why minecraft wasn't ported. Maybe because of the deal with Microsoft. But it would fit so well.
Pillars of Eternity is great classical RPG stuff. Looking forward to the expansion.
@chris
... yeah. I've just read another article. Two Fiji chips in crossfire liquid cooled ... coming in later this year.
I stay corrected. Will defo be WAY above my first guess.
If I remember the interview right, their concept is to try allways something new and unique, instead of going to competition with the strongest hardware. That's a risky approach: they try to create their own market.
Wii >>> Hit
WiiU >>> Miss
But I don't wanna defend the management here: their marketing was subpar and there could have been much more interesting concepts for the use of the gamepad. Really unique and interesting...
