I think the game looks really cool. I play a few board games like Catan, Carcassonne, and it looks really great how they have turned the board into a 3d thing.

I am not into CCG games at all, never played one in fact, but this has surprised me in just how good it looks. Not sure about booster packs and stuff though, I like to just buy the game and play, not pay extra for duplicate cards and do an ebay dance to get the whole experience.

That is, unless you live anywhere else but the states. In Europe we have yet to see downloadbale movies, despite MS saying that Europe is important to them.

BS and lies, but the PS3 is providing PlayTV next year, and SCEA are already saying that they are working on the same thing for the states.

Actually, it is the feature I am least interested in. We have Sky Digital in the UK, and also Freeview, which has all the free digital channels. Why pay MS or Sony, when ...

We should drag up every unknown blog post we can find where someone tells us how they bought a PS3 and then played a Blu Ray movie.

I can't see how this post should carry any weight whatsoever. He bought the HD DVD addon, for pitys sake, he has no idea about High Definition.

its a cool article, and he states rightly that we should only care about the quality of the movies, and I agree.

However, the more space they have the less they have to compromise on providing that quality, so I still prefer Blu Ray.

Even if the Transformers soundtrack is great, the studio still stated that it was a lack of space that made them choose not to use a HD soundtrack. Transformers is probably 2 hours long or something, so what will happen when they wan...

Only in America is the HD DVD doing anything of note. In Japan it is nowhere and in Europe as good as nowhere.

As it is part of the PS3 then I am happy buying disks for it. I am unwilling to invest in a player which may become obsolete, Blu Ray or HD DVD. In the meanwhile I can buy the disks and gain the benefit of HD, which I have to say, is pretty cool.

The growing success of the PS3 will mean that there will be a need for Blu Ray disks for a long time, and HD ...

aaw, you're just saying that because your mom caught you teabagging a noob on Halo 3 again, and confiscated your little Master Chief figure.

Never mind, I am sure you will get it back once you have done your chores :o)

Well, Sony expect to make losses the first couple of years, and then turn a profit which over the life of the console will hopefully recoup the R&D and the losses they made earlier and more besides to pay for the next R&D session.

It would be shocking to see Sony make a profit at this early stage, as that money should be spent on marketing, and publishing games. Sony also bought two software houses this quarter, which will have impacted the losses short term.
...

Sony report consoles sold, I thought it was Microsoft who stated consoles shipped?

6662d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Probably the usual shipped vs sold number discrepancy.

Ah, HD DVD, only in America would ignorant people get so passionate about an inferior technology, which is being supported by an organisation already proven to abuse competitors and consumers alike. The American Dream.

I say only in America, because HD DVD is virtually nowhere in Europe, and absolutely nowhere in Japan. Just that alone should prove that HD DVD is going nowhere globally, and will be a thorn in...

Good job they launched Halo 3 on 26th September, so they got the majority of the launch sales in the figures. What a coincidence eh?

Was this just a Halo 3 effect, or can they sustain it, that is the question, although they don't have to pay Bungies' wages anymore I guess. Another coincidence?

Also, it was a good job they put the $1 billion dollar charge in the balance sheet for last year, otherwise the warranty issues might have lost them money. So many coincid...

Some people treat video gaming as a competition, some people will treat video gaming as an immersive movie, and some as a party game, and some as a brainteaser. There are probably more reasons but I can't think of them right now.

At the end of the day, developers should not think that they can simply rely on the multiplayer to pull them through. I require a good campaign in my shooting/action games. I do not think shooting people is a sport, so I choose to play racing/sports ga...

That is just the most ridiculous, juvenile, and uneducated post I have seen on this site. This is the first time I push the ignore button.

Sony could do better that is true, but it would not surprise me if 80% of the annual sales will occur over the next 2 qtrs, given the nature of the industry.

Looking at a summary of Microsofts last quarter, from the press release http://www.microsoft.com/ms...

Microsoft took a one time charge of $1.057 billion thanks to the company changing their Xbox 360 warranties fr...

I have always wondered about the attachment rate figures bounded about and people on here do seem to comment that PS3 owners don't buy games. Using your figues of 745,000 ish for 360 games and 170,000 ish PS3 games then that implies that its about 4.3:1 or something. Using Vgcharts as our base they reckon there are 2 million PS3's and 8 million 360's sold in the US, which is about 3.7:1, about .6 of a difference.

This is obviously including the tailend of the Halo 3 sales spike...

Yet another report were we can all pretend to be analysts rather than gamers, spending more time looking at console sales figures, pontificating and navel gazing, rather than play games.

There is something seriously wrong here.

Yeah, they should have changed the controller to be more like the original xbox controller. It was so cool to be able to play games and still have enough room on the controller for a tv dinner :o)

Sony's controller, from its first iteration, was as near to perfect as you are going to get. I am not sure what benefit is gained by changing it. I can see why MS changed their's as it was awful (and still not great for fighting games), and Nintendo traditionally seems to change contr...

Yeah, you wouldn't catch Red vs Blue doing something like that would you, or Halo 3 players recording and editing their favourite moments from multiplayer.

No siree, no way, not ever, what a stupid idea ;o)

There's a surprise. I never saw that coming. Hopefully he will get disbarred before GTA 4 comes out, cos the bandwagon will start rolling all over again.

PS. It hasn't been banned in the UK, it is still in the process of getting certified, which can involve a bit of toing and froing, and to be honest it is a bit insincere to allow a movie like Hostel or Saw 3 to be rated but not manhunt, which in the end is cartoon violence.

It is just showing the games coming from Sony themselves. As well as those we also have the R&C, Assassins Creed, COD 4 (maybe, if the single player is proven to last more then 4 hours).

For me, R&C, Uncharted, and Assassins Creed are definites. Then COD4, Mass Effect (on 360 of course), Simpsons, and Orange Box are maybes.
