Welcome to the future of entertainment I guess.
I always thought games were a good way to escape from real life, but now the corporations want to interrupt my life with ads.
I might start a little protest by myself. Any advertiser who interrupts my gaming time will never get a penny out of me.
My initial reaction was the same, but then again;
the 360 only has two front USB ports and only has a 20GB drive which is not an easy upgrade either. With no internet wifi and non rechargable controllers and no High Def media drive, and not much in the way of xbox backward compatability (indeed, Peter Moore is on record as saying nobody cares about backward compatability) then I think the PS3 is still a good buy. The backward compatability sucks though, but then again, those wi...
Many people I know only have a couple of games for their consoles. In the UK soccer is virtually a religion and some of my friends have a 360 with a games collection consisting of Fifa 07 and thats it.
The mass market are really only casual gamers with only a couple fo games. The 360 software attach rate being so high is really because they haven't tapped into that market at all, and the reason why the Wii software sales are pretty low is simply because many casual gamers will ...
I didn't get the launch machine, I got the started pack which had two games and two controllers. I think I got the best deal. I wouldn't be happy with the new machine, especially if I need to start adding USB hubs etc. It annoys me that the 360 has that daft breeze block of a power pack and the silly clip on aerial and in order to watch HD DVD movies I need to attach another ugly box pretending to be a book, and yet another power supply.
No, I haven't been cheated at all.
I have some really great memories when I saw Defender playing on the Atari 2600, and I also remember spending hours playing the Binatone TV Game and that light gun. Later on it was Jet Set Willy on the Spectrum. That was very cool, but my longest playing sessions and best memories come from games like Civilisation and Uridium on the Amiga. Those were the days!
Nowadays I like the games but just don't have the freedom to play as much as I could. Shame, because there are some gr...
Microsoft isn't selling hardware per se, neither is Sony. They both want their platform in your home, so Microsoft can deliver advertising and Sony can deliver content. That is the battle. It is a distribution channel, not a gaming system, to them.
The only guys selling gaming systems are Nintendo, and thats perhaps why they seem so successful at it this generation. JMHO.
And the battle for Santas sack (oo'er) begins!
Interesting turn of phrase. A number of possibilities come to mind;
1. Bungie staff were pissed off after having to put up with all the PR and marketing pressure from MS re: Halo3 and threatened to leave en masse
2. Bungie staff felt that their integrity was suffering owing to the blatant 'buying' of high scoring reviews, and threatened to leave.
3. Bungie staff wanted to bring out a new IP, and Microsoft would not let them, so they threatened to s...
Cool, is this where they announce that there will be a price match on consoles, games and accessories between the UK and the US?
Or maybe they will announce that the UK will no longer have to get releases later than the US?
Or even announce that the UK marketplace will have the same content and movies to download?
After all, you care about Europe right?
Nah, didn't think so.
There haven't been 100 ports yet so your percentages will need adjusting slightly :o) It is easy to see why some of the ports have not been so good on the PS3 and that is because of the way you need to program for the SPE's. EA games are the notable ports where there are differences, but their game releases are patchy quality at best.
The latest quality multi platform releases such as Assassins Creed may shed some new light on it, now that the companies are sorting their skills...
Remember that a PC game really is just a disc full of compressed data and it uncompresses on your hard drive. You can't do this on the 360 as the hard drive really only has about 12GB free, if you have a hard drive at all. It is a limitation on the 360. You might not care, or think it matters, but its a limitation all the same.
I suspect we shall see many PC games in 2008 requiring a lot more than 9GB. Stranglehold on the PC uses at least 15GB I think. The way they will do this...
I think Sony still has the 11 million target, and with the tide of tiresome bad press slowing down and more good news about Sony generally, they have a great chance. The new PSP has been well received, the games are looking better and better.
Its almost as if this Christmas is the real launch (it is the first Christmas in Europe remember!)
I think the AAA titles are groundbreaking in some way, or the franchise is so dominant in their genre that each release is enthusiastically received, even if the groundbreaking game was only the initial one.
Individual titles which I perceive as AAA are R:FOM, Heavenly Sword, Gears of War, Assassins Creed
Franchises are Tomb Raider, Halo, Call of Duty, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, Prince of Persia, Ninja Gaiden
Then there are the games which can becom...
Ever since the first Call of Duty on the PC this has been my favourite wargame. The Russian levels are straight out of enemy at the gates. It will make a change moving to more modern times but it looks like a must buy to me :o)
but I have to say that it can be a very lonely life as an Xbox live player. When MotoGP2 was out I spent nearly 20 hours a week on that game, online. I was in the top 50 on the scoreboards before they reset them. I hardly spoke to my wife, and played until 3 am, played at lunch, played at weekends. I was gutted when they reset the boards, but I was surprised at how much I had been missing because of Xbox Live.
Nowadays I am a bit more mature about online play. I prefer the sing...
people who never played Halo 2 online. I did play a few multiplayer games with my friends but not very often.
I am playing the Halo 3 campaign at the moment and as its been a while since I played Halo it is interesting getting used to the quirks of the Halo series compared to other games I play.
The story seems OK at the moment. Those Cortana moments in the first few levels are annoying and don't make any sense at the moment. The scenery is great and impressive. ...
It is interesting that some are stating that Blu Ray is just a way of pushing DRM to the masses, but I disagree. Sony have always been an engineering company, and it seems to me are always trying to push the boundaries when it comes to technology. Obviously they have other departments/businesses which have other motives, such as protecting their intellectual property and this is why you get things like DRM and rootkits etc.
But the engineers, they just want to build great stuff...
to add on the rechargable batteries for the controllers and a play and charge kit to the xbox prices.
Overall the PS3 does offer the best bang for your buck, although it is not easy for the average consumer to recognise this, and some people don't have all the cash in one go. But the PS3 is in for the long term, and it seems that many pundits are in too much of a rush to see mass market hysteria. It took 7 years for the PS2 to reach 110 million consoles, so the PS3 (and 360) h...
He actually has a point when kids can buy games which are certificated for a certain age group, but sadly the way he goes about it impacts the rest of the industry in a negative way.
Whilst I don't like the idea that 12 year olds can go out and buy 18 rated games, I do not subscribe that those games should not exist, and they definitely don't create murderers and the like. It is too easy to blame society's problems on a computer game when the reality is more frightening (that t...
Microsoft already have an ingame advertising deal (or company) so I am afraid it is the future for all the consoles, as well as the PC.
You know this is bad for the gamer don't you? If the game developers are forced to get some of their income from in game advertising then we can expect that the games will be built to appeal to the advertisers, not the gamers
For example, if you knew that Halo 3 was going to be a key title for your target audience then you would ...
